while we're semi-on the topic of nightmares ...
worst one i've ever had happened on 16 march 2002, right in the middle of the day when i unwisely laid down on my couch. it involved being in a large school of some type, similar in some ways to a school i went to for a summer session between my freshman and sophomore years of high school, but also quite different ... more like something you'd find indiana jones investigating. i remember that the ceiling was probably 100 meters or more in the air, and there were mysterious pyramids everywhere with ferns growing on them. the whole thing was easily the size of a small city.
as i wandered the "halls," i encountered people i knew from high school, but i had the distinct feeling that we were all about to die. a short while later, inside one of the pyramids, we were attacked by something ... i don't actually remember how it looked now. it was almost formless, maybe like a blue shadow or something, and it made no sound until it was right on you, and then your severed head watched your body fly up into the air. the sound was probably your limbs being sliced off, actually.
then, as i was looking around at the pieces of the other bodies with my last few seconds of life, something happened ... there was a long, thin, gold line stretched across the ground. i couldn't figure out what it could be. then it started flickering, and i realized that on either side of the line there were pieces of someone's body drawing themselves back together again.
i was too afraid to open my eyes or move for an hour after i woke up. even after i opened my eyes i was still seeing that line. i told everyone i knew about it, trying to get it out of my mind, but it didn't help. people were saying things like "you just had a very vivid dream." ... thanks. keep in mind that 99.999% of the time, i don't even remember my dreams, much less have them have any real impact on my real life whatsoever.
bonus points to anyone who can tell me where my subconscious probably got the final image (think video games).
