To tell you the truth, this forum has a lot of members compared to another Metroid forum I post on, when sometimes I'm the only one active on a certain day.
I belive you and I think this is the biggest metroid forum in the world just now but it's not near the size of all games forums. And some of us are users there and probably seen a metroid discussion or more
That's fine; we want you to tell as many people on other forums about m2k2 as you can. I didn't mean for "friends" to just refer to people you know in real life. What exactly are you arguing about?

eehh? A thread, more members. What are you(not you specific) arguing against? More people? edit: the thing was that forums have rules against linking to other forums and advices could be written in a thread for that but if you want to discuss such things here it's fine for me(I asked it before in one post if you missed it). Let everyone know what to do not only me and you(admins). One way is that you make a thread how we should do it and lock it...no comments added.
M2k2 is a part of Speed Demos Archive, so the tons of people that visit that site, although not as many as GameFAQs or related types of sites. They hear about m2k2 quite a bit, and some occasionally drop in to check it out. It's not too appealing to most of them though, because there's just so little going on in regards to speedrunning Metroids. There's a lot they may be interested to learn from our database that they haven't gotten around to looking into, but instead of visiting and getting involved in the community, they tend to be just like "Oh hey that's really neat" and don't bother sticking around. I think it's because even though they like Metroid games, they just have projects going on themselves.
In the first couple years, there had been a lot of users coming here from the GameFAQs forums (including me). There seem to be members signing up every so often, it's just that there are less and less things to discover. As I understand it, the hacks forum is still going pretty strongly, so that's pretty cool. There's just a lot of nostalgia because most of the pioneers have left.

I disagree. The ones who never heard about this site don't even know what mockball is, like me, before I joined this forum. I think you don't know how much new things there are here to explore but to us everything seem old. I never imagined myself there would be a place like this and I definitely never heard about hacking metroid games before and Cliffhanger literal made me reborn. My game desire came back. For us this is old news but for others it isn't
Folkskygg: what you're talking about is unnecessary. Making a topic here about getting more members is not necessary to get us more members. People naturally tell other people about things they like, and that's how word about m2k2 gets around. It's also one of the top Google hits for "metroid" and "metroid forum", so we don't even need word-of-mouth.
Also, Jagger never said that people who come here already know the tricks. Yes, most of our users are just random people like myself, not those from SDA. I still don't understand what you're trying to argue.

My argument(I can't make it more clearly than this): How do we get new members(including harcore gamers) from other gaming forums without spamming? I made a move already and wait for answer. Why? Certainly there are a lot that adore metroid. I can't see why you're working against it. I know everyone can tell everyone they know but do you like if someone come here advertising another forum? How do we go around the rules. I don't like to get banned from the forum I hang out in. Now, do we get to business or not?
Just put a link to the site in your signature on other forums. Preface it with "Awesome Metroid site" if you feel you must, it's not like anything difficult is required here, you don't need special permission to inform others about this site.

He's not working against anything, he said to go ahead and tell people about it. What exactly is the problem here?

Actually I don't answer that question anymore and I have something going on regarding advertising already so read my post(s) again and read right

Hmm, that's a fair point. I guess it's just because I joined during a very busy time in m2k2 history that I remember there being discoveries like every month, and debates about the best routes because they didn't even have a sub-30 Zero Mission run yet. Actually, I don't think they even had a sub-1:30 Metroid Prime run yet. But it's very exciting to be in a bustling forum, in the midst of so many people playing the game just as much as you are still. That's probably the main reason the hacks forum is going so much more strongly than the rest.
But really, people are joining still, it's just that due to the lack of things left to discover, it's not going to be as busy as "the good old days."

I read your posts fine thank you very much. You're still missing the very, very key point that we don't know where you're looking to advertise so we can't give much input other that, "Put it in your sig." We can't tell you how different mods on different, unknown boards will rule on advertising, what you do and how you do it is up to you. So a topic dedicated to advertising this site is pointless, that's up to the individual to figure out.

Yes I don't doubt that people are joining but the more the better and now you said this again: "lack of things left to discover". It's only for us not to new members. I think you underestimate the content in this forum a lot. Actually I'm a realtively new member here and have much more to explore though I'm stuck in the hack thread. I and there are a lot of hacks for me to play and I haven't touched Prime since I joined here and there are many new things there to learn. What I'm waiting for most is the Corruption speedrun to be finished and then I might try to beat it. It would be my first speedrun in that case.
edit>> tomatobob: advertising regards forum how hard can it be to understand. In general the rules are the same and that's why I want some help from our admins not only for me but for everyone here who might hang out in a gaming forum. The rules are very similar and our admins know them best and one push to everyone might do well.Let it up to everyone will not lead anywhere meaning everything were as before. Why don't we encourage each other in a thread to get new members to the forum? And our admins show us the way. No one will die because of it
If the rules are the same and advertising in your sig is allowed here, where's the issue?
This very board is the first hit on Google when one searches for a Metroid forum, the main site shows up on page two when "Metroid" is searched. Ark went over this already but that's pretty good evidence that advertising isn't a huge need and is not a priority, if you want to do so the only thing stopping you is the administration from the forum you wish to advertise on.
We do not need a topic solely devoted to advertising this forum in other places, it's not like where terribly hard up for new members.

And I'd rather advertise the main site anyway.
Ok if you say so it's fine with me. It's less work for me also

That's a good point: To the vast majority of metroid players out there the content of this site is stuff they really didn't know since much of it is pretty advanced.

How many times do I have to tell it? My intersest in this discussion is decreasing exponentially
Now you're getting a little annoying. Look, this forum simply does not need a topic about advertising, so there's no reason to make one. We've been doing perfectly fine for over five years, and the people that have been here for years can confirm that. You're a new user who clearly isn't very acquainted with how this forum works yet, and so far your suggestions just haven't been very helpful. That's why I'm asking you to drop it.

Actually I never said that this forum is bad. You don't see the point in general regarding my posts. You only see me as a complaining son of a bitch but that's not the case. I like this forum very much and everything at the most but something can be better..everytime. Isn't it that we should strive for? Why be happy with how things are when they can be better? Of course we can be happy with how things are now but through my "annoying" period I've never seen some spirit in anyone exept Opium to think different and do different things that can make this place even better..is this really 100% perfect? Everyone dislikes new ideas even the users and so be it but like I said before: I like the forum and many stuff is superb. But why don't WE want to be greater? I think I contribute to it for a time now though you like my ideas or not. We see how it goes with the forum I hang around in then I'll be back whatever the results will be edit: Maybe the thread regarding a dead forum will give you a reminder? Think forward not backward

Folk I appreciate the compliment but you've gotta chill. If you don't like the way the forum is run then it's OK because it's not your forum - you need to accept that it is what it is. If you don't like the way they run it then just focus on what you do like about it, like the unsurpassed amount of serious metroid content - which in the end is why we're all really here anyways. Take my advice and talk metroid here, and have your social or deep discussion in a different forum.

Like I said before I like the forum but I dont't understand the lack of interest having new ideas that might make the forum greater. The thing is that their point is what is good now and I know that already. How can we be greater? Not by doing like we done things before. Think further...I don't say it's a guarantee for success but at least we could try. We can all sit here with our hands in front of our eyes and feel happy but if we take away our hands and look forward there might be something extra to get.

I see what you're saying, but you're better off letting THEM worry (or not worry) about all that.
I agree that you can't say this place is "perfect," but it's not like nobody's doing anything at all to tell others about our forum. You're doing your part already, people tell their friends already, more members come every so often, and it's not a big enough issue for us to make an official thread about. It's not that none of us listen to you, it's just that you keep going on and on about things that don't even have anything left to debate. It's like you're trying to argue against people that are on your side, and you keep getting more and more heated and eventually sarcastic about it. It doesn't help any more than you already have from the beginning. Our advice has been given. It's just draining us to keep reading the same thing and making the same replies.
Just because people disagree doesn't mean they don't listen. You're getting all excited over nothing here. If nobody considered your opinions around here, you might have gotten banned days ago just for flaming the mods. Your intent is good, but you're not our boss, so you can't just order us to do things like that and scold us for disobeying. You've made your argument, and those in charge have understood, but still don't think forcing the issue into everyone's heads is necessary. This is not a business, you're not paying us to put more effort into advertising, and that effort isn't going to pay off in itself because lack of advertising isn't a problem. People do inform others about us. All a thread is going to accomplish is annoying users that are just here to have fun and don't need us telling them to advertise to everyone they meet.
I'm sure you realize our team is really helpful in these cases, but you don't seem to remember that it's against forum policy for you to demand explanations for our judgements. You don't need to understand every decision and it takes (apparently) an immense amount of time to explain it to you. You try to act like you respect our authority, you say the mods are doing a good job, but in reality, you keep trying to make it seem like none of us care about the forums. So far, you've displayed disrespect to the administration, you've borderline flamed them for things they had already accepted fault for, you've spammed this thread pretty heavily, and your insubordination has come to be expected. I can assure you, any time the M2k2 administration think of something more that can be done to improve the community, it is discussed, and action might be taken. One day, you're going to need to learn to chill out.
