That's what makes m2k2 better than every other forum in existence.
For me what makes it better is that its all about my favorite video game series. In other forums it seems Metroid rarely comes up which I find surprising. And when it does come up, it's some guy who wants to trade friend vouchers for MP3. I think the other forum just has a different direction that they want to go in. There's alot of ads in the forum and I think they let everyone do what they want because they want the high traffic/membership. This forum us pretty much totally focused on Metroid and imo is THE place for Metroid fans.
Remember when m2k2 was about speed running/sequence breaking?
It still is, there's just not a whole lot left to sequence break, the more recent titles are pretty good about stopping that. And speed running isn't terribly interesting if you can't skip the time wasting crap that most games have.
It's true that there have already been 8 (I think) WR Metroid runs done this year, but aside from the runners themselves, nobody really showed much interest. This forum has become more a general metroid forum than anything.
EDIT: And yeah, Hotarubi's 100% run was not a TAS. And a good example of a run that should have been huge but wasn't.
I think that if we were given something to break interest would go up quite fast, most games have been taken as far as people are willing / able to take them. They want the next one to show up and be the next Super Metroid or Metroid Prime, instead they get Corruption which seems to be sealed so well that interest in breaking it declined just a few months after its release. Until someone shows up to revitalize interest in the games like craztad and his Prime speed team topic, most games will just sit there and General Metroid will be all there is to talk about.
I agree that Hotarubi's run could have used more attention, but the fact that he wasn't going to put it on SDA likely turned people away.
Yeah, because for the 4th of July posts in the Social Topic, I was going to hotlink a 768x1024 image. Instead, I decided to save space and put it as an attachment.
Should there be an exception to ignoring a Moderator if the Moderator is new? I don't know about everybody else, but I just take a quick look at the avatar and name to know who's posting, and not the five Metroids that weren't there the day before.
Not sure what 'new' mods you're referring to... Acheron is the only relatively new one, but he only moderates the hacks forum. Do you even post there?
All the other mods have had their status for months or years.
I'm not really specifically talking about one mod, I'm talking about any new mods that may come along. This did happen to me once when BiosPark became a mod, but that was awhile ago. Yes, I do post in the hacks forum occasionally, if there's anything worth posting about.
Not sure what circumstances come up in which this is a problem. If someone is acting like a mod toward you and you can't be bothered to take the half-second you need to make sure they are or aren't a mod, I'd say you're the one to blame, yes.
Why is this even an issue? All you have to do is not break the rules and you wouldn't have to ask a question like this.
