I havent seen one person on here who has a picture of themself as their avatar.  I tend to do that..but since I saw nobody else with one, it made me wonder if it was somehow against the rules.  So is it?  (I know i have a picture of my back up, but its not my face obviously, and i'm getting sick of looking at it.)

I would have posted this in the rules topic but nobody can post anything new if they're not a moderator...kinda sucks if you have a question about rules..
Kharay's profile, with himself on his avatar
there's an approximately 1 in 313 chance that you will get me for my avatar.

It's certainly not against the rules, but I get that feeling that another mod/admin has already comfirmed that for you.

I hope you were being sarcastic on that second part...

We changed the probation rank to a probation avatar. I'm mentioning it here because thanks to a bug, locking the avatar also breaks any bbCode in the signature until the user re-edits it. Best to cut off questions before they start.

Why? Her current avatar is (I assume) of herself, so I assume that another mod already PMed her or something, saying that it's alright.

just for curiosity, what does this rather undesirable avvy look like? I really don't feel like going on a spam a thon to get it, so if it's ok to show people what it looks like, that would be appreciated.

It's just a Subsilver-esque bar that says "Probation" on it. It's (sadly) nothing offensive or anything.

May I ask why you decided to do this instead of the old way?  It was definitely easy enough to tell when people were on probation then…

Not about ease at all. It's sort of a punishment for users that are on probation - they won't be able to have an avatar for that time.

I meant if you had to even ask, you weren't paying attention to this topic because his post was followed by two admins saying, sure, go ahead.

Actually, I believe that's Yoshi.
Seeing as how we go straight for banning I don't think it's going to bother anyone anyway.
Speaking of banning, why have some (active) users just become banned? I looked at their last posts and they were not against the rules.

I thought this, too.  But nope, Yoshi cracked down.  http://www.metroid2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4426  It was discussed in that topic there.

The mods/admins have already have explained it, but I'm feeling nice.

don't see how their avatar missing and a big PROBATION image there is any less obvious than their avatar still there and smaller [PROBATION] text there.

please see these posts (moved out of the evidence locker) for the immediate reason why yoshi banned them.
I'm for the probation avatar, as it strikes a harsher blow than the original probation way.  This way, you don't get to have an avatar.  There was sort of a gap between how harsh probation was and harsh a ban was.  This narrows the gap.  As it takes away some privilages from people that were on probation.

That's really none of your business, but I guess the posts that Nate moved out of the Evidence Locker will explain some things. Basically, if you want ot avoid trouble, just make your posts intelligent, on-topic, and relevant.

Yoshi: neither of the two admins following PhazonInjected's post gave her a straight answer, so I did that.
Y'know, there doesn't seem to be a defined place for this, but I guess it fits here:

I've noticed that we've been gaining more leadership here, first Yoshi, then TRH, and Saber became a mod.  I thought modship was greatly reduced a few years ago, why the increase now?

(My best guess is the forums are getting more populated, correct me if I'm wrong)
red chamber dream
Heh, "a few years ago". This forum has only been around for about two years. And I'd hardly call the addition of one new mod (Saber) a significant increase, though, yes, it's an increase nonetheless.

Anyway, Nate (and the rest of us) felt there was a need to recruit a new member for the staff. It's as simple as that.
dunno how busy i'm going to be this semester ... could be severe. also, the ability to ban is very important to the stability of the forum.
I have a question. What is this 1337 thing that I keep hearing about?
it's when people \/\/|2173 11|<3 7|-|15. don't do it.
