There is a new rule. Burn it into your mind.
Must Read over 50 times!!!!

New rule for anyone who didn't find it.

Quote from Toozin:
No excessive use of alternate accounts - Alternate accounts are allowed if used responsibly, but more than 3 per user is just overkill, and misuse like spamming threads and having conversations with yourself will result in the possible Banning of one or all your accounts.
I dont even see the purpose of having 2 accounts.

Same here, but it is permitted. A lot of this is being done for if a user has a sibling or someone who wants an account. I know that's not really multiple accounts, since they're different users, but the IP address is the same for both accounts.
Ah. That makes sense.

Metroid2002. A Great community, now with more rules and fewer n00bs.

^I thought that up in my sleep last night.

True, but it's kind of sad that we even have to make more rules. We usually only write a new rule when a user or users give us a reason to.
everybody knows it's true
With new rule up, be sure to ban Dagron and Mr Aran. I doubt I'll use them again.

There will be no need to ban those accounts. Only multiple accounts that are being misused will be banned.

I don't see the need for multiple accounts myself and thus have banned them outright on SCU. :|

With regards to the multiple accounts/same IP address comment, anyone using the same ISP on 56k will more than likely end up using the same IP address at some point (you can check this in your IP checking tool as a MOD/ADMIN). I've noted over 30 different people using the same IP multiple times on SCU.

You've gotta love those dynamic IP pools...
red chamber dream
Yeah, I never really saw a need for multiple accounts either, but oh well.

We realise that users can be using the same IP address, even if they're not on the same computer, and we've had that happen before numerous times, as well. But still, by using the IP check along with the users' post content, we can generally tell if two users are the same person or not. It's a great tool to have, even though it can be misleading, I suppose.
Kinda like if you have an annoying little brother that wants to join the same boards on his computer that has the same IP as mine. But I dont let him to either SCU or hereor YLF cause Im just afraid he might get IP banned and if that happens, I will be banned as well x_x.
a wise decision.
I just recently got an account here, and I have been breaking the policies quite frequently, on accident though.  I apoligize.
well, at least you realized you were doing something wrong ...
I'm not asking this so I can do it, but how can a person possibly be allowed to make another account if they've been banned already? I've seen one guy who has been banned 3 times because his 1st account was banned, but then came back again (under the same name Rolling Eyes) and then banned again after. I thought IP addresses were also banned, so how come he always manages to come back? I was just curious, that's all...
red chamber dream
If a user is banned, they cannot come back under the same username, for the username is banned. If they make a new username, that will also be banned. This is stated in the rules.
everybody knows it's true
I guess he was talking about METROIDFANATIC3. How could he come back with a banned IP?
HIS IP WAS NOT BANNED. get over it.
Not impossible

Guys, I appreciate your curiosity and stuff, but bans are really none of your buisness. I'd appreciate not hearing any more questions on the subject.
Yes, Mr. Aran, I was talking about METROIDFANATIC3.

Toozin, consider the subject changed.

Another question I have (I'm not mod begging, so don't blast me for this. Just curious) but how do you actually pick out a person to be a mod? Is there a list of requirements that you keep to yourselves, or does it just depend on the number of posts a person has made? I read that you choose people yourselves, but how do you decide? Is it behaviour (like for instance, anyone who has been on probation X number of times cannot ever be a mod) or number of posts, where if a user gets X number of posts or achieves X rank, they can be put up for being a mod or admin?
Again, this isn't begging, just curiosity. Yes, I am a nosy bleeder.
no finite rules really. just has to be a cool person with favorable traits (clearly visits all forums, lives somewhere else, maybe speaks some languages other than english, etc). oh, and don't forget "a mod is actually needed in the first place".
red chamber dream
I can tell you that it's definitely not decided by post count, although users who have been a member longer will have a higher chance of being a mod. New mods are rarely needed, though.

And dont think that all old people are Mods either, ;cause I'm living proof they arent. I have been to other forums though, where a new person comes in, is everywhere all the time, but in a good way,(like getting along with others and having great insight and ideas) can become a real quick mod if the mod spot is open and needed.

So dont give up everyone! Just dont be too much of a newb and you may have a chance.  Wink
red chamber dream
Exactly. But, I wouldn't get your hopes up too high, anyone, because there is definitely no need to hire a new mod right now.

And I as well.  I made Metroid Prime like, fifth or something in the entire forum and I'm still a regular old user.  I mean, t's not like I'd be able to accept a modship if I got offered one since I've got my own site to worry about, but the fact remains that Ark made mod a couple months ago and he's about six months younger than me here.  .
