Hi.

When I originally played through Zero Mission a few years ago, the one thing that always annoyed me a bit was the inability (or so I thought) to enable/disable items like you could in Super Metroid - particularly the Screw Attack, which sometimes became a major nuisance as it destroyed enemies I didn't intend to destroy.

Now, I coincidentally came by this youtube video in a different unrelated topic in this forum:
[flash=200,200]

Maybe I'm just missing something, but it really looks to me like he is disabling various powerups near the end of the video. (it shows the text "Select" and below it "On / Off" in the middle of the screen)
I started up the game again, and tried pretty much every button or combination I could think of, without any luck - I found no way to even get the "Select" text to show at all.

Can this actually be done in the GBA version of the game, or is he using a different version (do any others exist?), or is he just using a ROM hack that allows deselection?

He's using a CodeBreaker Code.

Code:
730016C4 0080
83000BF0 0006

P.JMan made a thread about it.
Thanks for the reply.

So, in other words it isn't possible without using a cheat.

I tried various searches on this forum on "deselect items", and various similar things, so no wonder the "Debug menu" thread didn't show up :)

To be honest, the whole thing looks more like a development blunder to me (maybe it got turned off for testing reasons, and someone forgot to turn it back on before the final build?), than a deliberate action. After all, why would they remove a good feature that was present in Super Metroid more than 10 years earlier...

At least the ability to enable "unknown" items, if indeed you can do that when it is enabled, isn't really an excuse - implementing a simple condition check to prevent enabling such items would be trivial regardless of what programming language was used.

Just my 0.0002 cents though  Wink

As a matter of fact, it is not possible to turn on the unknown items before beating the Chozo Statue, even with the debug cheat. It's likely that it, similarly to Crocomire, were indeed intended to be put in the game, but something happened to have denied that.
Is there a code for AR
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
Use this for AR v3+
Code:
F3383B70 1279F916

And this for AR v1/2
Code:

thanks Pj but is there away to turn off suits
red chamber dream
zomg u wanna see sombus nakid :O
lol no just with the orange Varia suit
Since I'm guessing this has been extensively, any ideas WHY this wasn't implemented?
Maybe because it was only there for testing purpose. Maybe they wanted to let only skilled player see the different ray combinations... who knows...

Hmmm, is there a way to create a modified rom that would allow to do this without having to use the cheat?...

Yes, very easily, infact there's already a patch for that purpose
Is there a cheat for the orange suit?
