Not to go off topic but, about the Crocomire in Zero Mission. Is there a codebreaker code to make him appear or would I have to have a prehacked version of the rom? (If so, I'd like a link to said rom)
Even if you have him in the game, you can't beat him. It doesn't take damage. It's only partially coded. I don't believe he's assigned to any room though, so I doubt any codebreaker is going to make him appear.
I haven't heard of a ROM that completes his coding and uses him, though.
I wouldnt call it a debug menu since it doesnt really give you anything; it only lets you turn stuff off that you already have (at least thats what I gather from the pic).
i'm not sure what the use for this would be, compared to SM. Is there any time while playing normally where you'd wish you could turn something off? ( Potentially high jump but that's about all I can think of)

The same reason people do it on Super Metroid. For beam combos and to control what suit you're in.
It waits until your finished with them (Speed Booster, Morph Ball, any Beam (including pistol))

This proves it's in the game's coding, meaning Nintendo intended to add it at some point.
Just because it's coded in doesn't mean it was intentional at some point. It's most likely that they did it just for debug features, so they don't have to play the game over and over again just to test a few things. The main reason it's still there is because removing it completely would've been quite tricky.

Which is what a debug feture is
What I mean is, I think it's just a left-out or unfinished feature, not a "debug" thing. In SM it was intentionally allowed, though I imagine players found ways to use it that they devs didn't expect i.e. murder beam ;) ) Since this hidden feature functions exactly the same way (heck that screenshot shows they have graphics for the later beams without ice in the game) I think it was originally intended to be there, but cut for some reason (with the code for it left intact).
I think it's still a debug menu because they felt like they should test different areas using only certain items. It may have also been intended early on, but they decided to scrap it, because they decided there's no point.
Been playing around with this and found something interesting. When you get the Varia, the "Behold the Varia Suit" animation plays, right? Open the debug menu, exit, and it'll play again. You can repeat this over and over. It doesn't matter what you do in the debug menu or whether you move around in the room; in fact, you can leave the room and come back, and this will still work. I think what makes it stop is collecting another major upgrade. I came back with the Power Grip and Ice Beam, and it didn't work anymore.
I bet this happens after the Chozo Test too. I can't think of any other items that come with animations after you collect them; too bad this isn't Mega Man X, where capsule upgrades always give you a quick demo. Obviously this isn't a glitch in the usual sense, but I think it's interesting anyway.
