Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I just got this baby yesterday, and I cleared the first story mode and busying myself with the second, and here are my views on it thus far:
The battling part is hella fun. It's fast and furious, and the 4-player fights can easily get as chaotic as any given Smash Bros match. There's a huge variety in the different parts and bodies to play with, and it offers a lot of variation in deciding what works best with what. There is some strategertising involved in equiping yourself before fights according to your opponent's abilities, although you can usually get by with whatever you've got as long as you're comfortable using it, at least on the easier modes/settings.
Story mode has been getting some bashings from various crappy websites that may or may not have the initials IGN, but some of it is justified. It's advertised as an "RPG" type mode, but that's really not the case. What it is is a series of battles strung together in a linear fashon with an odd but fairly interesting storyline thrown in the middle. The big blocks of text do seem unnecesary at times, but I can't say I was ever bored with it. Just don't go in expecting any puzzles or dungeons to explore - it's just go to point A, battle, go to point B, battle, repeat. But that's fine by me.
The second story mode that you open up after beating the first is far more interesting. This one doesn't have a plot so much. Instead it's just a bunch of tournaments that you open up one by one. You recieve points based on your performance in the tournament, and medals based on your points. Evidently there's big prizes at the end depending on your medals, but I haven't quite gotten that far. You can go back to beaten tournaments to up your score, and it saves your high score for each one, which is nice.
I haven't spent too much time with arcade mode, but it's pretty basic. I'm sure you can immagine what it's like from the name, although they offer a bunch of modes like 2 vs. 2 and tag team tourneys.
A bit of a downside is that you have to beat that first story mode before you can't do, like, ANYTHING. You can't even fight CPUs in VS mode until you've cleared it. So if you end up hating the story mode, you're kinda screwed.
Played a little multiplayer before I had many parts unlocked. It was fun, but I'd like to try it again with the inventory I've got now. More combonations = more fun. Seems like it's a smashing good multiplayer title, with it's plethora of customizations and easy to comprehend controls.
All in all I think it's a rip roaring good time and worth checking out.
