If you scan lock a target, let go of the L-button, quickly switch to the combat visor and then immediately press the L-button again, the cursor remains at its last position. From there, you can use R to move the cursor around (much like you can at the cursor's default position), though each press of R resets the distance of the cursor to the distance it was when you initiated the glitch. This means that you can get any angle you want for a jump, given the right positioning of the cursor, since Samus moves in a sphere around the cursor when jumping. Unfortunately, you cannot dash from this state, since the game treats the cursor (almost) like it treats the default L-lock cursor. (There seems to be a minimum distance between Samus and the default cursor that prevents Samus from actually running up and seeing the cursor close up)

I would post a video if I owned a capture card, but I don't. Anyways, I am posting to see if anybody else knows of this glitch and to see if anybody could think of possible uses for it. ATM, the only thing that I have managed to do with it is to get to the Ice Beam without boost and without ghetto jumping, by angling a jump off the toad-guy's head. Pretty useless, given the set-up for CG being longer than for GJ, but it at least means that GJ height can be achieved without a wall. (Assuming I didn't accidentally ghetto jump while performing the CG jump which is a possibility; it has been a while since I last tried it.)

Its "Orbit Far" seen up close. Aka your crosshair. It's commonly seen during the I Drone fight and I've had it happen on the vent shaft vertical door for some reason. Probably other places as well. https://m2k2.taigaforum.com/post/metroid_prime_hacking_research_1756.html

Also there's a topic called " Glitches" :P

pretty sure this glitch is on the main site. it's been known for a very long time.

Really? I'm sure this is the first time I'm reading about this particular glitch.
It looks like nate replaced the quick time video's with html5 video...

woah

when the hell did that happen?

I know it exists, but I thought that, given the possibility that it might be useful, that it might more appropriate as a post of its own. I kinda had the idea that that thread was more for useless glitches, but I am still new here so what do I know?

I tried looking for it when I first figured it out, but I don't remember seeing it there.

I was just joking about the Glitches thread lol

Anyway, the main page is rarely updated. There's lots of stuff not on there. Plenty of info here in the forums though

Yeah, it's a really old/well-known glitch and it's not useful at all. It's the same cursor that appears whenever you press L, just closer instead of being way off in the distance. Metroid Prime doesn't actually have a dedicated non-orbit strafing mechanic; strafing is just the game giving you a lock-on where you can't dash and putting the lock-on target reeeeeally far away.
