Echoes is at my doorsteps and here I am doing some more Fusion stuff. This time I didn't even attempt to think up anything; it just came up in an emu-rape. Now I gotta redo my previous battles...

Anyways, the short time that the Core-X is emerging, shots will go through it. Since you can fire Missiles quickly (I'm not sure about Super Missiles though), it's possible to have 2 Missiles inside of the Core-X when it becomes vulnerable. That is, you can hit him twice on the first wave so to speak. Serris normally takes 5 but I managed in 4: http://www.metroid2002.com/ekarderif/double_corex.avi. Not sure if this is manageable in a normal game but it'd speed things up provided you're insane enough :P.
Thread title:
ekarderif strikes again. you'd better believe people will attempt this in the real game.
Yeah, I've done it tons of time when I was playing Fusion. It all depends on how close you are to it.
That is awesome. Do you know how much time that could save?

Well now that I think about it, not much. Just under 10 seconds I think. I doubt you could shoot fast enough after super missiles, but I dunno.

Why didn't you say anything before Bartz!? No one ever did it in the runs. That could've been the 10 seconds I needed to get 0:49. :/
Well, it is Fusion. 10 seconds could mean that you have an awesome spawn somewhere. It could yield a 3 jump Zazabi, fast Yakuza, or a number of other stuff. It could also screw you over :?.
would be awesome to have a supercomputer run vba and figure out what the "resolution" of speed in fusion is, i.e. how many seconds a trick must save locally to necessarily amount to a different final time (globally).

not sure if that's clear so i'll say it another way: i want to know how much time a speed trick needs to save when you actually do the trick (i.e. ten seconds total if you get all of the double missiled core-x's off) in order to defeat the "fusioning" of the time (i.e. going faster due to the double missile trick might cause a slower spawn set/boss door later on). i suspect that it's more than ten seconds, unfortunately, but since it's random, you might actually save time in this case. you never know.

so the only way i can think of to figure that out is to have a supercomputer play through the game perfectly with and without speed tricks of various savings and see where the line falls (where it becomes faster on average to do a trick than to not).

So, can anybody prove that optimizing Fusion would or wouldn't be an NP hard problem?  :P

That's why I said...

I wonder how many people will understand that locally, global statement of yours without reading the rest of you post. It's weird because I sure did.

I did.  But that's because that's the kind of thing I think about while lying awake at night.  :D
Oh, I didn't understand what you said. Go me Embarassed.

ah, cool. i guess it helps that w.dawgs is a fusion runner and izo is pretty well integrated into the community (and probably read my 0:53 commentary, where all this crap started).

I understood it because I'm smart... :P

Now... To test this out...

Ach; why don't quotes automatically disable smilies?  I hate those stupid yellow faces.
They don't disable smilies?

EDIT: Hmmmm....  <_<
(Text smilies > picture smilies)

I think he means that smilies in the quotes are converted to text or pictures based on the settings for the post with the quote, not the original text. Like, if I quoted that stuff it'd be smilied.
