Metroid 1 was easy to navigate. nothing overlaps so you can draw the entire map on graphing paper.
I think it's because they didnt develop a new map system to make it easier to look at these unneccesarily complex levels. We were stuck with more or less the same as MP1 and 2.

Prime's map was fantastic. For some reason the same style didn't really work for Echoes or Corruption, though.
Anywhere, everywhere
Same style worked fine in all three, seeing as, you know, it's the SAME style. Even though the 3d maps are pretty good, nothing beats the 2d ones, since the 3d ones do get pretty disorienting. Gba metroid style is my favorite because you can tell when an item is still unacquired by looking at the map, or if you got it, something super's didn't have. It was nice to see that feature somewhat return in corruption.

Nah, both Echoes's and Corruption's level designs sucked, which made the maps difficult to read.

I found prime and echoes's map to be mostly the same.
Bananas GOOD, Kremlings BAD
Even the first Prime's maps confused me at first, because of the possibility of seeing the map at the wrong angle.  Once they started stacking rooms on top of each other (like Echoes' underwater Torvus area), it became harder to follow.
Same for Phazon Mines. That's given me some trouble.
OH ****!!!!
All you had to do was flip it.  laugh new
Yep. Phazon Mines is the only area of MP1 that confuses me on the map screen.

Heh.  Nice one.  Actually, I had to flip it a couple of times to finally see it from the right angle...
