Well i would like to do an optional area for the hardcore players, but i think lower norfair would be best because the tileset has gigantic potential; I want people to enter and think "This is gunna be immense", i could just use the ruins for the optional zone but the purple area for ridleys place.

wow going good. If GKs tilesets include anything but doors then he should provide us all with a patch BEFORE we start work and have to change it when its scrambled by new GFX.

Well, I will use a new tiles set for tourian. But tourian do not share tile set. So I will add all that stuff later when the rest is done and it is my turn to do tourian. OFC, once this get started I may provide a tile set to some other area... maybe....  ..Not sure yet. ( A lot work to make a custome tile set)
YAY TEXT
Well theres nothing to stop you doing Tourian beforehand, since its not really affected by anything else, ive just started with lower norfair.

Well, if we are talking about adding areas, Ive had this devilish idea for a long time about adding an area under Samus's ship that would have difficulty compared to Lower Norfair

I just need to learn how to add rooms, PLMs, enemies, and the like
Hated by all
Unless you have someone who's making map sketches, I might do that. Only thing is, just drawn pictures.

And for adding rooms, that might be a tough one (maybe as hard as finding a $7FFFF bank or something like that and occupying it)
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
Even with some major reconstruction you're limited to 7.6875 MiB due to 24-bit signed addressing and the RAM, SRAM banks and the pre-$40 banks

Well from what I know, Redesign was the most expanded SM hack, and 4.32Mb comes to mind for its size, cant remember for sure though. I wish lower norfairs rooms had multi state, because if they did i would have this absolutely awesome idea. But i guess i could always just get around it by roomstacking.

Well Super Demo World had a 6 MiB size ;-)

Redesign is exactly 4.00 MB (4,194,304 bytes)

Well, you could always grab some multistate rooms from other places on the planet, but there probably aren't enough for what you're planning (and it'd conflict with the way this hack seems to be going - keeping rooms in their respective areas). There are a few people on #jzd who know how to add rooms who could tell you how to add many multistate rooms - or turn normal rooms into multistate rooms. But it'd be somewhat of a big undertaking I'd think since you'd be rewriting the room headers in hex.

How'd they manage that? Same technique Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia use?

You can access the space above the 32 Mbit mark in the ExHiROM map  at 40:0000 - 7D:FFFF.  Note that banks 7E and 7F are RAM, thus the last 128K of your 64 Mbit ROM is not accessible from there, though you can access the upper 32K of the two banks at 3E:8000 - 3E:FFFF and 3F:8000 - 3F:FFFF.  Also, the area from 0000-7FFF of banks  $70 - $77 is usually used by SRAM, so the corresponding areas in the ROM are not accessible.

Hey just wondering if anyone else has started any work yet? And do you think its a little obscure to enter LN by shinesparking through a wall into the ridley head room?
If anyone working on Norfair (or maybe other areas?) thinks theyl be using any LN GFX let me know, because otherwise I may edit some of them
Wait this is a halfhack?
YAY TEXT
Thats sorta complicated, I know for sure my area isn't, if others want to make their areas half hack areas they can, because its completely up to them what they do with their contribution.
Almost happy
I think with this much manpower you should definetely make a really worked through full-hack, with extended rooms, new beam functions, different speeds and cooldown values, the whole pacakge. (well at least as different as possible without hurting the game)
YAY TEXT
yeah i agree, everyone should put their max into it, aslong as we dont fry the ROM, but what i meant was, say a person is working on brinstar for example, and this person is a fan of half hacks, the could do that, but that doesnt mean to say that someone else wont come along and add their own zing to it. Just like me being a hard hack fan, am making LN hard. but yeah i think this should be hacked to the max.

Yeah, I'm doing full remapping, but I see no real reason to do major engine edits. If anyone else is doing them, perhaps we should discuss those so everyone can know approximately what DPS Samus is doing and how much health she has by the time the player reaches their area. I also think new physics would just be way too annoying for everyone to design around. Let's keep it to graphics and beams.

As I had stated already, to make the full potential of the new Crateria, I would need to add my special section and for that I would need to learn how to add rooms and do other things, like fill with lava, acid, etc. Most of the Craterian changes can already be previewed with my ongoing planned hack

Well maybe no major ones, but still some minor edits in playabillity is really welcome these days since there are about 1000 hacks that play exactly as SM vanilla.

I'm more eager to see beam-edits than physics edits though.
Seems like every time someone makes unsubtle physics changes to SM in a hack, they get publically harangued for it though.
You shouldn't change something just because you can (especially game physics).

Well im always in favour of prime like weapons in a hack, also i can make a temple key like system if reserve tanks are removed.
Right now im requesting to make the blue ball enemies from norfair invincible, so i can use them as more obstacle like things, but if anyone disagrees thats fine.

Who thinks we should set up an IRC channel for the planning?

Well no of course not, in fact I didn't even like the physics in redesign. But I still think that if you can implement new physics without hurting the gameplay it is most of the time good, because it helps to make it feel different from what you have already played.
YAY TEXT
Do you have any idea how hard it would be to pull that off?
Almost happy
Nope, just throwing my thoughts and opinions out there, it can't hurt can it?
As long as you test out the physics extensively, and test a ton of values for gravity and such, it wouldn't be that bad, just time consuming.

I've been experimenting with gravity values to see what happens, and sometimes i get decent, playable physics. Most of the time though, its either too similar to vanilla SM, or horribly unplayable.
