Oh you mean the one that lowers the lava? why in gods name does that require space jump?
Because the statue won't activate if you don't have it. Nintendo apparently wanted the space jump to be required get the screw attack. Which it isn't anyway because of the opening the green gate from the wrong side trick. So ha ha on them.
Sorry about the ambiguity of my earlier request. My section of maridia will be dry, will contain, not lead to, botwoon, can be from an elevator down from anywhere, will include the blue brinstar ROOMS, made Maridian, and will tentatively lead to someone else's suitless underwater segment (though this could be changed, of course). My prerequisite items are pretty flexible; I just need a couple e-tanks and morph/missiles/bombs, so really my segment could go just about anywhere. The speed boots and power bombs are pretty standard "necessary" items, though, so it might have to be midgame. To re-redraft the tentative order: Morph/missiles/bombs (crateria? brinstar?) charge beam/hi-jump(brinstar? WS? Included here in a solid position as they're both required for later) my Maridia (speed, PBs) wet Maridia (???) CW's optional Norfair (gravity, springball) FMIL's LN (screw attack, plasma) GK's Tourian
Semi-required, unclaimed items: Grapple, Wave, Ice, Varia, Super Missiles Optional items: Spazer, Space Jump, X-ray
I was also thinking that perhaps Varia would wind up being a good split between the first and second nonlinear parts of the game, with a small part of Norfair serving as a second hub. However, we large numbers of cooks are in danger of spoiling the broth, so I'll be quiet and see who else claims stuff.
Though I would consider ice beam to be optional. The only real place its needed is for metroids.
I have a request for the placement of space jump: Somewhere that the gravity suit is necessary, or at least someplace that is very hard to access sans gravity. Possibly wet Maridia, high up in a room? Or in an Acid-filled speedboost puzzle? (I like the sound of that second one btw...)
Already having the space jump would make my segment much easier, but I can tweak it if someone else has a need for space jump to be somewhere that doesn't need gravity.
I thought I had said that I would claim Crateria. I would make it like in my hack; in order to get into the gauntlet, the player would need Speed Booster, and Power Bombs to get through.
And NO EARLY WS: I would make it so they have to wait to get Grapple and would not be able to just boost through
The player would also need Super Missles before going to the door to the right of the ship, as there would be a super missle barrier in place of the big bomb barrier to the right, to compliment the already existing super missle door.
Well, since disscusion has started along nice. I will let you guys plan it out. Since my area have no items. I will also link the escape to crateria, So to who ever makes old tourian. Make sure you have a "fake" door att least that allways got a gray hatch.
And I have no items in my area. So you guys go nuts on this! :P ....But don't make the hack freaking hard. >;(
[Edit]: Oh also, Should I apply zero mission CRE GFX or Fussion CRE GFX that I made? Or will we go with the origonal?
Although its small, it will still be fun to mess around with the different states... yeah, you know what I'm talking about!
As for items, WS didn't really have many to begin with, so the only main item I'll take is... First Super Missles!
LR, that means if you take Crateria, you'll need to leave at least one opening to WS without needing SM... Think Fusion when you needed to go around those locked doors!
Also, after all the areas have been divided, we'll need to divide the clean-up items as well...(Missles, SM, PB, E Tanks, R Tanks) And are we sticking to the original ammo counts?
Got it, but I will require the player to at least have Hi Jump to get up to the ledge with the roll through hole. So try to make Hi Jump at least after Spore, or make the Hi Jump the prize for defeating Spore.
Hm, will the ZM CRE actually mesh with the traditional SM tiles in the rest of the planet? Perhaps it'd be good to get a mockup of them together to see what it'd look like before making a decision.

Well sure. Zero mission doors. (Not all of the CRE but oh well.)
For lulz, I also got this SMW2: YI styled door: ( I am sure you recall this FP :P )
So the player will definitely have HJ boots before my area, right?
I vote ZM gfx
Yes, but if you fill your area with water, the high jump boots become a moot point unless player has GS. I only put in that requirement cause I dont think we want WS entry to be possible before Spore Spawn. In my hack, the player will be required to have at least Grapple Beam, no cheap boosting across
I'll do Wrecked Ship if no one has taken it. Not sure what main item(s) if any. I would like to do wave if I could. should I go really hard or medium. I'd love to do hard.
squishy_ichigo has already taken Wrecked Ship, although, perhaps a part of another area could be removed, added onto the Wrecked Ship and you could use that?
wow going good. If GKs tilesets include anything but doors then he should provide us all with a patch BEFORE we start work and have to change it when its scrambled by new GFX. What do people think of having lower norfair be a very hard optional area? like one of those secret extra super challenges. Ridley could be moved to normal norfair, and i'd take golden torizo as the boss. Otherwise i'll take both. Also did someone (possibly Ducknerd?) say earlier that this will never really end, and just keep being added to? That would be possible with room duplication and ROM expansion! :D We should certainly make use of it! And we should NEVER state a "final" version, because even when it is "finished", i think people should still be free to add.

Or you could make ridley (or any other big boss) an optional fight in the optional hard area and simply make some other obstacle than the statue room for entering tourian. Optional bosses are fun because you can make them really hard, like botwoon in gravy :-)
But I very much like the idea of a optional area. (though necessary for 100% of course, the best would be to have some kickass item there like plasma for example)
Yeah I'd put plasma and screw attack there. only thing is if lower norfair (Which has grown in this hack) is optional, then the game is smaller. I think Ridley has to be neccessary for completion, but it would be damn cool to put him or the gold torizo in the escape. I think there should be an aparently pointless, empty two screen long room next to the ship room, connected high up on a cliff or something, and you should have to go through there to get back to your ship at the end, and fight the torizo there with the time limit. he just needs his HP super charging so he isnt super easy with hyper beam.

Hate to be a downer, but that (making it never really end and keep being added to) is not really possible even allowing for adding rooms and rom expansion. The largest SM can get to without special bank switching is 4megs (you'll hit FF:FFFF with that). That's your limit. And believe me you don't want to have to code bank switching into SM. Also, after a certain amount of items are used up, the extra areas become pointless. You'll also hit 100% collection rate and have to allow higher than 100% if you want more areas. There's also the issue of map space - eventually you'd run out of that too. Your enemy bank will also become full and you'd have to recode the game to use 2 enemy banks (which is actually somewhat doable).
Well it does physically have to end sometime, but the game could be made bigger. i guess if someone wants to do it they can, and list the extra space in the rom used.
Well, My area will not be filled with water necessarily, but it will definitely have water.
Also, I think that LN could be semi necessary, in that you could have the branch to GT be very hard, with more rooms added, and the branch to Ridley be easier and shorter.
Don't worry too much about the game getting smaller. I'm definitely using all of the rooms that I'm using, no black space. Also, with so many people working on this, its highly likely that other people will expand rooms/use more of them.
This brings me to my next point. Everyone keep several backups, because with many people, the chances of corrupting roms is much higher. Especially if we're all moving around stuff, making rooms bigger, changing door destinations...
