Don't want to make a new topic for this. When capturing with vitualdub when I'm around 30 minutes in the capture this happens with the captured file.

www.chrisvandijke.nl/stefan/movies/soundproblem.avi

Don't know what's causing this but it always happens around 30 minutes in the capture. It plays the rest of the audio at this speed after that there is no more audio. Also I can't chose Format from the video menu and Preferences from the capture menu, probably my crappy card though. Any help would be appreciated.

Ready and willing.
Don't worry, topics are cheap. And really, that had little to do with the topic you posted in.
does the sound run through the video card when capturing? if so then you're going to have to search for better drivers, or else buy a better card. if it's the independent sound hardware (e.g. sound card) doing it then you can just buy a new or used [soundblaster] sound card ... should be really cheap.
er, did you want to say how, so that people who find this topic in the future can also fix it?
Used an older version of Virtualdub, 1.5.10. Fixed al my problems.
ah, that's cool. important info. be sure to submit it as a bug to phaeron if you haven't already done so, though.
Alright, I reported the bug.
Sorry for a double post. This might be usefull for someone who encouters the same problems that I had.

Answer on my mail.

If you are using a WDM driver directly (DirectShow mode), you should use
the Capture Filter or Set Custom Format commands instead. It works as
before if you choose the VFW entry instead, which was the only mode that
1.5.10 could use.

> -Wasn't able to choose 'Preferences' from the 'capture' menu
Fixed post-1.6.3.

> -Couldn't choose huffyuv codec from the video compression menu
Happens if the current video format is not RGB or YUY2.

Caused by the new audio resync code, which can be disabled and switched to
the 1.5.10 behavior in timing options. I fixed a DirectShow interfacing bug
in 1.6.4 that could cause this, although using it's a bit later than 25
minutes.
holy crap, virtualdub is awesome.
everybody knows it's true

Shocked

That is the weirdness.
I can't set my capture format to 704x576 in v.dub capture mode, I get this message: Error 418: Video-Format not supported. I tryd 'Format' 'Set custom format' and tryd to resize with the 'Filters' option. Maybe my capture device doesn't support this. If so, should I resize from 352x288 to 704x576 for the high quallity version of the file?
no, there's no point in doing that if the data's already been lost. your hq will just have to be d4 (half resolution/half motion information). the fps should also be 25 then.

wait a minute, is this pal or pal 60?
ok I'll keep the hq same size.

This is PAL 50 hz, yes.
ok, cool.
Is it necessary to create an avs file if you're not going to apply any filters, since I can't capture at 704x576? The original capture already is 352x288.

and are these file sizes correct for a 4 min 30 vid?
high: 66 MB
low: 9.5
normal 19.5
no, it's not necessary (it's only for high quality/full framerate). and yes, that sounds correct.
