I'v discovered an apparantly new trick for getting a missile tank at the same time as you get Brinstars Super Missiles. I appologise for wasting your time if it's already known, though.

Here is a video of it (VBA1.6a + ROM). In case you can't watch an emulator video, here are step by step instructions with pictures. (note, the missiles are missing in these pictures. I didn't have a save handy where I had the speed booster and the missiles were still there. You can imagine they're there sitting on the middle platform).

Ok, I'll assume you already know the usual way of getting the Supers. Do the first ballspark as normal, getting you into the secret room with the missiles. As soon as you pass the speed blocks, save your charge as normal but also drop a bomb like so:

Now, jump up to the platform on the left. Holding left or right to jump instead of spark works in ball form too.

Now spark to your right, you'll pass through some more speed blocks and get the missiles. The platform on the right has a ramp on it, so save your charge there.

Now drop down to here:

Now it's just a simple matter of sparking left and you'll find yourself at the bottom of the Super Missile pedastool having collected a missile tank you'd normally have to make two trips for along the way.

Shocked

The other way looks entirely less compicated. Although I see how this would be good for speed.

Can't that be said about a lot of speed tricks? :P

Seriously, though, I don't find this too hard. I've done it 4 or 5 times, and the only time I messed up was when I bomb jumped by accident (in case you don't know, bomb jumping will cancel your shine). Still, as the other method cuts all of this out this is undoubtably more complicated, and this is only even remotely useful in a speed run anyway. Each to his own, I guess.
wait, theres another way to get this super missile?

I had no clue there was another way O_o...

what is the other method of getting it? Ive always gotten it like this..

can someone explain how else you do it?  Cause ive been doing this simple way forever.  The only difficult part involves remembering to bomb at the right time.
I wouldn't really call it an "other way", it's just skipping the missile tank. After hitting the first speed blocks, you save your charge then just roll out to the left. From there you jump on a platform, morph, and spark. That method can bee seen here.

Apparantly, very few new this method. Neither Nate nor Red Scarlet knew it, so it's safe to say it's not public knowledge (or at least it wasn't).
that method seems plausible too, but i never thought about it. O_o.  I've always done it the way you described it, It took me a little bit to figure out, and someone gave me a hint towards the other way.. yet i still realized "ya konw, i could.. ahh, thats it"

I've been doing it the way you just described ever since.  If i forgot to bomb (my biggest mistake with that method) its possible to have enough time to bomb the floor and get off it.  Or powerbombing works from the top riight corner as well, if you skipped this one till after you get the gravity suit.
I always did it by recharging almost as soon as I got into the missile room, then moving back to the right and re-sparking to the left... when I saw scarlet exit to the left and bounce up to the platform, I was surprised.  I'd heard you could get the missile in the middle of the sequence but didn't know it was like this though.
I originally used the other method, but I noticed an odd seam between he middle platform and the block on top of it. A little bobing revealed the top speed blocks, and from there I just knew I had to work out what they were there for. I gave up, though, when I couldn't work out how to spark again in the room. I tried a few times to go partly back down the ramp on the far right and spark, but I couldn't find a spot with enough vertical room to do it there. As soon as I discovered the bombable floor, though (curtesy of a power bomb) the whole thing fell together easily.
I actually found the room from the "exit" end, which is why i noticed the bombable floor (i was just randomly hugging the wall and grabbed on..) I knew this had to be how you grabbed the super missile, and after bombing like a mofo, whcih allowed me to destroy the floor and find the speed blocks up top, then i noticed the slopes, It all fell into place.  I never even thought there was an alternate way.  strange.

Ready and willing.
I found those speed blocks (power bombs, I think) when trying to figure out how to get there, but I never actually stringed it together. I didn't think everyone else would miss that though...

Not sure if it's any faster to just get those missiles on my way to Norfair, as I use that room as a shortcut to get to Norfair.

I thought you were talking about the normal missiles ABOVE the Super, not those ones. :/

If you're going through here twice anyway, then no it probably isn't faster. This has undoubtedly been designed for speed, though, they just probably didn't think you'd use it as a shortcut at some time.

Sorry I made my explanation before a little tricky before, I can see why you were confused if you thought I was going after the normal missiles.

I was thinking you spark, get the Supers, then would spark up and get the missiles above the Supers.. >.>

What? That's always how I got that super missile...except I would go part way down the entrance ramp and spark left. If I were lucky, I wouldn't even have to stop in the vertical shaft to spark again. I think I knew of that bombable floor, but forgot about it on the next few runs. It's not too hard. it's at the bottom of the ramp. Less than half the time have I ever gone back and done it again.
