Yes i said true run. Its one of many unique runs ive done for ZM including the not so infamous 'Upside-Down Run' where I literally flip over my GBA and play ZM. Mother Brain escape was a b!tch!  laugh new

Anyway a 'True Run' is simply only doing what youd normally do in the original. After you beat Mother Brain and escape and watch the cutscene simply pause the game and see what time you get. Way back when I was into speed running the game, year or two ago, my best time was 25mins.  grin new

If anyone has ever done this post your best times if not its be interesting to see what times ppl get. Please post a pic or vid if possible to show proof.
Thread title:
What'd you say?
You do know that the current world record for this game is done in: 27:40 done by Spidey Widey right? Meaning that your post either a lie or you are a god for improving the world record by 2 whole minutes.

And be careful of which you say is correct.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Spidey beat the whole game, not just Mother Brain.

Damn, I misread the post, sorry IaIaPazuzu.  Embarassed
Calling it a 'true' run almost indicates that any other run is false.  I say call it a 'Mother Brain' or 'Halfway' run, or really anything other that 'true'.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
I read his post. and it sounded to me like he'd beaten the record too. (Although I instantly doubted it)

It sounded like his mention of Mother Brain was simply saying 'kill Mother Brain, escape, and watch the ending to see your time', and wasn't on about only playing that part.
Well, you do a bunch more stuff in Zero Mission than just the post-Mother Brain areas.  So I guess it would be more like the original if you skipped the Acid worm.

Well considering that ZM is not canon and is nothing more than a re-imagining True as opposed to MB or Halfway makes more sense. Not that it matters but *ahem* is anyone gonna post there best times for this type of run?
i doubt it. most people would rather run the full game. the final time is more important. if i were to do a "true" run, i would just run the original metroid.
but how are you gonna know what time you got when it doesnt keep track of time plus ZM is a more updated gameplay/look so its still fun to do. grin new
stopwatch.
red chamber dream
a "true" run is beating the entire game. this would be called something else.
^ No, its just a regular run. A 'True' run is what you do when you do what you do in Nestroid. ZM isnt canon so when you do a full run its called any/low/100% run cause its regular or Nestroid w/ MGS sequence run or hence why its not called true cause you dont do the extra MGS stuff in the original... Hence 'True' run. Do you get it now?

ahh so you start and stop the watch at the exact milisecond each and everytime you go from room to room with your third arm?
in the original metroid you count the whole thing as the game time. door transitions too.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
ZM's a sequel to the original 'troid you noobs. True run my ass.

ZM isnt canon

Uh... yes, it is.  Just because it's a remake doesn't mean it isn't canon.

I don't see why you would ever do that on any game.

How would you know your time in Zero Mission if you only go as far as Mother Brain?  It only tells you your time at the end.

"Better" graphics doesn't necessarily mean a more fun game.

he's probably referring to the fact that the in-game timer stops during door transitions in fusion and zm.

beat the game once, then pause the game during your second time through.
Huh.  I never knew there was a timer there.
Yes, your current time is displayed on the pause menu screen on any save file that has been completed once.
twenty eight fifty
metroid 1 sucks. you might as well run this game and pause it if you want some kind of oldschool run.

i think mine was around 20 or 21 minutes. anybody halfway interested (ie nobody) can check my run if they're curious.

Dont Diss the original Metroid.
It doesnt suck; it is just REALLY DIFFICULT.
If metroid 1 didnt exist, the whole metroid series wouldnt exist, so dont diss it.

That has nothing to do with the quality of the game. Metroid 1 did not age well at all.

Uhhh, in a True Run, don't you need to be able to skip Kraid? I think my best Both Boss run in M1 is like 35. Though in ZM it's around 20ish.

Super Metroid, too. In fact, a lot of games that keep track of time stop on door transitions (Like Bomberman 64, the greatest game ever). But yeah, if you have to ask about the timing rules for a game that doesn't do it for you, you've probably never been to SDA and seen the runs of Metroid (1)....

Although this...er..."true run" idea has been asked about in completely different context, I'm not so sure I see the point of tracking the best time through 2/3 of the game. It's a very convenient checkpoint, but beyond that the reasoning just seems rather silly to me. Carry on if you like, though.
^ The last 3rd of the game isnt even Metroid. Its MGS, hencing further... True Run

My lateest time for a True Run is 31:33

once GameFAQs, now Twitch
At what time did you pause that?  at the end of the timer countdown (which would mean p good reflexes to get something accurate) or after the cutscene (which in itself isn't part of M1, so it should count)?  Anyway, perhaps "Classic" run would be better than "True" run, since ZM is true to itself.  I'd also toss in my chip to M1 not holding up; 30 energy after you die means you either have to be good at the game for farm for enough life not to start in friggin' critical.
