Actually, I do technically get shot during the SA-X battle...but I was screw attacking at the time  Wink

And my hands shaking was counteracted by the sheer adrenaline rush that just wouldn't let me lose. It actually helped during the Omega Metroid fight since I was able to fire faster that I usually do. You'll notice what I mean when you see it...my thumb was vibrating so much that it was tapping the button almost by itself  Exclamation

To think, this all started with this post by Nate:

you should definitely record a 1% single segment. mwahaha.

Also, the tape itself has slightly faded color. I noticed it after watching it through. I'm guessing that's from the 53 recordings over each other (and the fact that I just realized I used to tape TV shows in SLP mode before I used it for this). Other than that it seems fine though.
nah, faded color is pretty normal for ntsc. you're probably just used to the real color from playing the game so long (fusion has the craziest use of color of any game i've ever seen, except maybe tempest x). you can really tell about the color when you check out some pal runs (e.g. pirate109's latest). the color in that, even though the quality overall is bad, is way better than in high quality ntsc runs of prime.

this is why ntsc is sometimes called "never twice the same color!" :P

btw, i told Rachel about it and she asked, "is he going to take it?" :PPP
Good job DD, I could never do that, and I can't wait to see it. So I'm going to have some competition on SS any% huh? Good, it will help me to try harder and get better times. On my regular any% I'm still at part 4, but I'm steadily getting better at it. I go through it on an average of about ten times a day, and the only tricks that I can't do consistantly are the "low height" shinespark to get outside AQA, and the really hard shinspark charge after falling in PYR. I've gotten 18 again, but still with lots of mistakes. The eye door doesn't like me at all, but serris hasn't been to bad. BOX I can beat quickly about 75% of the time, and almost all of the shinspark tricks I can do everytime.

I have a question though; in AQA, after you lower the water, is it faster to just spark out like usual, or to run over to the speed blocks, and spark diagnolly up. Keep in mind that if I just spark straight out, I have to run left a bit after I hit the door, so I can get enough room to speed boost. When I spark diagnolly through the blocks though, I dont have to run back, and I build up a speed boost before I get to the door.
Hmmm...that might explain why I never noticed it in other recordings I've done (ZM and AoS). Granted the Resident Evil 2 run I have I noticed the faded color pretty easily...just assumed it was the tape since the quality on that one isn't particularly good (granted Resident Evil with faded color actually looks awesome - sorta adds to the horror atmosphere  Wink )

EDIT: Kridly to not post while I'm posting  :P
As for the low height shine spark you refer to in AQA...I actually lucked out and pulled that off in this one.
And the spark after the water lowering...I think it's faster to spark all the way to the door (don't quote me there) since you'd have a long way to run just to get to the door. My guess is that it's not much faster, though.

One more EDIT: I think I'm gonna do a quick Julius Belmont run on AoS on the remainder of the Fusion 1% tape...just for fun  Wink

Wow...  How did you do Ridley consistently?  The only time I managed it on my 1% was a complete fluke, and I could barely damage him before dying all the other times.

And congratulations and happy birthday and crap too.  :D

He didn't. If you looked at his final stats at the end-ish of the last page, you'll see he only ever got to Ridley twice, and only won once.
Technically, Yoshi, I beat Ridley both times, but I died to the Core-X the first time around.
And I actually don't have that much trouble with him most of the time. The strategy I use keeps him pretty much doing exactly what I want (Tail Whip). It worked perfectly until he was down to one more hit. I've tried explaining it before but it's not one of the easiest things to do, so I'll just let you see for yourself once Nate captures it.
On that note, I'll definitely be sending this one off Monday.

EDIT: AoS Julius Belmont Hard run is on the tape now as well - 11:34.
ah, good job on the belmont run. and yeah, i'll be interested to hear your ridley strat - he's one thing i would be pretty concerned about in my any % s-s. nightmare actually doesn't frighten me that much; go figure.
Heh, after finishing the 1% single segment, an any% single segment wouldn't even phase me in the least...those couple extra energy/missile tanks would almost make it too easy  :P

Nightmare probably wouldn't scare you that much for any% - you have double the amount of missiles and can kill it quicker, so getting hit a few times isn't such an issue. Ridley isn't the best to use missiles against so the only difference is the extra energy you'll have.

Granted, you could always use the cheese strat I heard of (from somewhere, might have been here) and just space jump in a corner  8)
That's my cheese strat, so you got it from here.
And before I forget, congratulations.
yeah, i won't be using that ... i suck at it, and i think it sort of ruins the run when i could be beating him normally.
And the cheese strat gets a little harder after awhile because he'll move up sometimes right after he screams.
The first time I did the cheese strat (which was when I invented it, surprisingly) I had to space jump as soon as I could so that I wouldn't get hurt, that's a lot of space, no?
And Ridley in any% shouldn't be a problem if you keep using that charge.
Cheesing Ridley also adds around 20 or so seconds, depending on Ridley's movement and your shooting, and I only made it to beat 1% for the first time. And that was only two months, or so, ago.
I improved from my 1:55 speedrun.

I managed to get 1:53, this time. :)

Perhaps I may plan on starting from the beginning and try for a 1:50!

I didn't know you can play as Julius in AoS... I guess I didn't get to play my pirate copy long enough, but I don't remember reading about it at gamefaqs either.  Ah well I look forward to posting it and the 1% run on sda ;-)
Ok. What's AoS?

I've tried to guess but I've only come up with blanks.

Oh, and nice job Dragondarch.

Aria of Sorrow or something. One of the GBA Castlevania games.

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. Third and so far last Castlevania game for the GBA. Supposed to be the best of the three.
yea... its pretty awesome, and i didnt like the other castlevania games... but then again, my fav. GBA game is still metroid fusion.
kridly/other speed runners, i need to tell you about a minor thing that d.darch does in his run (which will still be up sometime today, barring further problems ... hopefully).

after nettori, when he leaves tro ii, he goes up on the right side of the first huge room instead of going up, right, up, left, up, right, up, left like you do on the left side (and dawgs does in his 0:50). a power bomb needs to go off and reach the uppermost corridor to allow you through (to exit tro), but my guess is you could set it and then unmorph and start space jumping up from the bottom and it wouldn't be an issue.

so, was this known? i know that i could be unaware of it and it could just be slower than just going up on the left (many other fusion shortcuts are more or less useless in this way).

a video of the trick is here: http://nate.metroid2002.com/d.darch_s.cut.avi
Thanks for the trick DD/Nate. I'm not sure it saves time, but if I lay the P. bomb earlier, it probably will. I won't be able to use it for awhile though.  :?
