Heh, with all the times I faced the Giant Plant on my failed 1% single segments I think I've seen all the possible combinations with jumping. I've had exactly ONE 3 jump fight with him, though I can't remember which run that was or where I died later. I've had a few 4 jump plants but most are 5+.

On another note the eye doors seem to connected as well, since if the 1st one (before Arachnus) doesn't shoot at all then usually none will up until Serris, sometimes not even then. I had one run where none shot at me but I died to Yakuza so I don't how much more luck I would've gotten  Wink

... Shocked I haven't achieved a single 4 jump round, and I've played it several hundred times!!!

imo four jump giant plant should be filed under 'possible, but not going to happen.'

More like "possible, but not going to happen in a run that's worth anything"  :P

Well shit, you say there's a four jump plant boss possibility that's so damn close to impossible, then you mention a three jump plant boss round that seems like it IS impossible, having said that it's impossible to damage jumpy more than one charge beam and two missiles per jump. does it have to do with bombs or what? How did you do it, DD?
I was thinking of something else actually...I forgot it takes 4 jumps minimum to take it down, which HAS happened once, and only once, and the 5 jump has happened a couple times. My bad  Embarassed

OHHHHH! Okay, that would have been really weird. I was kindda hoping the 4 round was easier. Well, I'll just have to save in front of the door on a "good second"
I've pretty much concluded that 11@save before serris ain't possible. I have less than 5 seconds of mistakes in this run, one eye door shot, and two saves. I had five jump giant plant, and about five seconds of mistakes, and I was in the room right before the long verticle shaft before the savepoint. I was laying the last bomb to dstroy the little barrier, and I paused it. 12. I'm sure that someone could get 11 there(at save), if they were 100% sessy, with no eye door shots and no saves, and four jump GP. But other than that, it aint possible. Someone might do it someday, but until that happens, IF it happens, I'm going to say it's impossible. 12 is easy though, so I should finish this segment soon.
coo'. keep it up.
I'm beginning to curse Core-X's more then the bosses themselves lately. Or at least the Core-X for Mega-X. I think it's a little peeved hat I unload a full barrage of missiles into it while it's downloading the Varia  Embarassed

On another note: I did a practice run last night to face a few bosses. I set my kills to 5 so I could make sure what I was doing would work and not happen to be a fluke.
1st up: Yakuza, of course. My record for him lately was 0/10 using the coward in the corner strategy. Last night I was 5/5 using my old strategy of just running around the room. Go figure.
Next: Nightmare. Still as much of a pain as ever but I didn't really have any skill-based mistakes. 90% of my deaths on him were due to him moving in a way that just isn't possible to avoid.
Ridley: After not facing him for over a month I noticed I kinda sucked the first couple tries. Then I got back into it. Looks like it's gonna be about 50/50 chance of beating him since he as a couple cheap moves of his own.
SA-X/Omega Metroid: 5/5 with these 2, never took a hit either.

Now if I can get a little luck on my side I may finish this thing fairly soon  Wink

...? You never took a hit on OM?

Wait, you got to OM and you're not finished? Are you just tweaking a few mistakes or what?

BTW,
Quote from Kridly:

What? What does that add up to, about 30 seconds? And what do you mean no saves? That's not Sessy, that's maniacal! No human OR cyborg from the future is that good.

EDIT: Oh wait...I just realized I had no idea what I was talking about, and then realized I just posted in response to DD's 1% SS and said that no saves was just...impossibleness. oops Embarassed
Haha, confusion = root of all genius  :P

But at any rate, what I meant by "practice" run was that I saved before each tough spot so I could repeat it as many times as necessary. I basically made sure I killed each trouble area 5 times before moving on. So technically I beat the game 5 times as well since I took OM down each time without a scratch.
Honestly I wasn't expecting too much of a problem from him or SA-X, I just saved and fought him 5 times for completeness. This was mostly to practice Yakuza, Nightmare, and Ridley. Though now I think I might've wanted to practice Mega-X a bit as well since before the "practice" run I was 5/5 on him, now I'm 0/3  Evil or Very Mad
Well, my finishing time for Metroid Fusion is : 1:55 with 100%.

You want me to find my Nightmare cheese strat that I posted somewhere (either here or at SCU, maybe both)? I would do it now, but I'm tired, got stuff to watch, and I don't know if it'll be worth it.

And... I must suck at Fusion after this long break. I did notice that there is a lot of time at school where there is nothing to do between classes, though, so I might take my GBA to school for a bit of playing...

And I do hope you finish that SS run soon, I want to see it (the time, that is).
There's a cheese strat for Nightmare too? Man, I'd love to hear this one. Anything to help with Nightmare is a plus.

BTW, I'm taking another short break from the game. After making about 8 failed attempts in 1 day I kinda decided that it was time for another short one. Planning on doing a quick speed run on Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow...got a route figured out, just need some luck getting the souls I need when I need them. I'm doing a practice run right now to see how low my level will be at each boss (note: I'm doing this on Hard Mode).
Heh, I actually got a new time: 1:02 with 8% of items.

Go me. I was so close to a sub hour run, but the security bot (both forms), I really can't beat them without a few mistakes. Every other boss is fine for me except the plant boss, but those three give me a few problems.
I'm going to find the tactics, wherever I put it, and edit it into this post... Or write a new if I don't find it.

EDIT: Ok, I can't seem to find it...

Well, since everyone knows how to beat parts 1 and 2 (I hope) I'll skip to the 3rd part. *note that this is pretty slow unless you have bad timing, and is made so that you always beat Nightmare without getting hit.*
*Also note that I havn't tried this when Nightmare goes counter-clockwise.*

Shoot all but 2 or 3 missiles at Nightmare when it moves slowly, like normal.
Well, if Nightmare is at the top right, stand under it, run to the left corner, turn and shoot a fully charged shot into it. Then jump up over it (towards the right) and SJ to the middle of the right wall (going all the way up can let Nightmare stop, and that's what this is going to stop).
Now, fall, wait a second or so, and then run to the left, turn, shoot, jump over and SJ back to the middle of the wall.

I got this to work on my second, third, fourth and fifth tries. On the first, I found that going to the top allowed it to stop once or twice, which almost meant death.
It might take a while to get used to this if it doesn't work with counter-clockwise (I didn't have that problem) so save close to nightmare and practice a bit.

I always thought that it was a good thing if Nightmare stopped. Then I could unleash unlimited loads of charged beams on it to finish it off (have at least 1 missile left when you beat him to get the quick X kill).
When Nightmare stops, you do get more hits, but when it starts moving again (and you don't have any ETs) it'll go in a random direction that at times make it nearly impossible to avoid. And sometime getting hit once, means getting hit again. The second hit would then kill you. And if Nightmare stops 3 or more times, the chance of it going in a bad direction once is pretty high.
EDIT: And the tactics can probably be a bit faster through experimenting, but I wasn't bothered about speed on my first (finished) 1% run.
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
That's why I only let it stop TWICE. Wink
any% run
final time: 1:35
percentage complete: 40%
My best Fusion time is:

1:23 with 7%

My lowest percent run is: 1:28 with 3% (2 extra E-tanks) (NIGHTMARE is the reason for the 2nd one  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad )
I just finished a 24% 1:11 run.

I made a lot of mistakes. Next time I'll try for some less missile tanks and perfect it a bit more.
I just got back from a week at my friends house, so I'll start recording again soon.....
great news. :)
