Best time: 0.45 (PAL-versio)

-2 minutes faster than my previous
-15 segment
-27% item (30m 15sm 5pb 5et)

-This was pretty good run.
-Not best possible because i don,t use all possible trick here.

-Almost weeks-two ago/when i complete my any-% run. I started speedrun new 100% run. I use much good/new trick here just like example i use after torizo shortcuts & gate hater.  Both trick took lot practice but i finally can manage both trick almost 25%-50% of the time.
I have 14 min and almost 50-55 seconds over in red Brinstar save. This is very good with PAL versio 100% run. This is only 8-12 seconds slower than my current any-% run sub time.

Right now i really want know what is that Phantom 3 round kill. My battle is always 4 round. 2 round kill is too hard & almost impossible on console. 3 round kill can be possible if  i find that idea. Phantom always disapper when i shot 3 regular missile.

1 round: Wave charge and 3 regular missile
2 round: Wave charge and 3 regular missile
3 round: wave charge and regular missile
4 round wave charge 2 regular missile and SM shot

3 round battle feel impossible yet. Ive must be watch scarlet video. She use 3 round methods (if i remember right). But nothing works for me. 3 round not working :x
3-round Phantoon:

round 1: 2 charged ice/wave, 1 missile, charged ice/wave/spazer
round 2: same as round 1
round 3: charged ice/wave or wave/spazer, 1 missile, super

Well. Thanks! Wink
Waaaaaaa i want insanity
Thanks Blueglass I always had trouble with phantoon.

Anyway, because my Snes is completely screwed I have been playing on an emulator.
I can only seem to get :39 on an emulator. it's quite a difference from my :35 Console.
Anyway back on topic, I got a DVD recorder so all I need now is a new SNES and i will be able to record a new Pal speed run.

:35 will make it onto SDA. won't it?

EDIT: Pagebreak. Why me?

Best time 100%: 1.05 (PAL-versio)

-5 minutes faster than my previous
-20-segment (19-save points)

-This is very good 100% run with PAL versio. I use lot new time savers first time in my life. I less 3 save points.

-I use shortcuts after Torizo
-I use gate hater
-I get Wrecked ship energy tank without gravity suit
-I use mock ball out after etecoon PB

-First i decide use Phantoon 3 round battle, but always 4 round battle was faster way. My best 4 round battle was extremely darn fast one. All eye open in 2-3 seconds and i don,t miss any shots. It was reason why i use that save before ET, because i miss that ET almost 75% of the time.

-Botwoon in three round, and i less Save points before Draygon. Draygon was good one. He use one more attack, but i don,t care because this is 100% random avoid.

-I use at least one more new shines, example i use shine after golden torizo.

-I use Murder beam against Mother brain with Hotarubi style. Hotarubi Style is slower than Scarlet style, but it was most safe, because i skip that Tourian energy recharge too.

-Avarage segment took 1-3 hours complete. Couple segments took really long. Segment 3: Green Brinstar-Green Norfair took 2 days, because Kraid quick kill is very hard and frustrating because i skip Kraid lair save.

-Phantoon segment took very long too. Phantoon is hardest and most randomly fight in the game. Finally i got absolutely perfect 4 round fight.

-Early spring ball segment took very long time to beat, but it was almost best segment my run and it is one hardest too.

-This run was very amazing and my time was very high 1.05.5x.
This is probably my last 100% segmented run ever. My run was done with PAL versio. PAL versio is much harder and slower too. I can think this looks like even sub hour with NTSC.
Wow, that is a very good time, congrats on this wonderful achievement MASTER-88!

Just out of curiosity, what are the biggest individual differences between PAL and NTSC when doing a 100% run? Not to talk about doors and timing, but any specific parts where these versions differ a lot? Any% had that ledge in Maridia and something else, which I cannot remember right now, I was just wondering if there are more. (I do not know the PAL-version at all)
Speedrunner
Thanks Lance. :P

I remember Cpaldof give a list version difference PAL vs NTSC.

-I don,t remember all version difference. But biggest pain is definitely that when doors open slower and stopped easily your full speed. This made game much harder speedrun with PAL.

-Lava room lava rise much faster PAL than NTSC. You not can use morph ball here.

-Arm pumping is uneffective with PAL. This not really save any time. At most 0,20 sec per 7 seconds long corridor.  I timed this.

-I remember: Tonski said that shine spark end bit too early with PAL.

I don,t remember all possible versio difference. I think Cpaldow know much more versio difference than me.
I could honestly second that if the same run would've been done on NTSC it would most likely be like 0.59 at least. I remember being said that if a run better than Hotarubi's would be done on PAL it would still be ~2 minutes slower? Well 100% take almost 2 times longer and I just think that Master would get sub hour on NTSC.

This is my point of view in this subject. Really big conratulations Master! Maybe I'll try to break this record some day, though it won't be easy. :P
Now the same one Single-Segmented and recorded, please  Wink

No, seriously, it would be nice to see someone kick some butt with a fantastic 100% recorded run. We will have to wait that one for a while, I guess....
I most probably would do a 100% SS run for SDA but I don't have much experience about 100% runs. Maybe I should do one, 100% SS (PAL-version). I think it kinda sounds cool. :P

Lance that's kinda a nice idea.
Almost happy
There are several differences between PAL and NTSC, I did a test run on both of them using savestates (and slowdowns for comfort). The difference between them in performance was miniscule I think and any time difference one way or another in one room should in theory be balanced out by other differences later, overall I doubt that there where more then a 10-15 second difference between them in quality.

So my tests came to the conclusion that the difference was ~3:30 in favor for NTSC even with the torizo skip in PAL. This was for me very expected since I have excessively played both versions for many years, what surprised me was that the part between the last gunship visit before tourian till the finish was where ~50% of the difference came from. A segment with no apparent difference what so ever, my guess is that it comes from the MB fight which brings me to a discovery I made a few months ago.

Potencialy ALL waiting for something to happen events are slower on PAL, I have not tested all but the once I did test where true (The only I remember are Statue room and baby metroid event)

This means that all folowing event (plus ones I might have forgotten about might be slower on PAL.

Ceres Ridley appearing
Ceres Ridley Escaping
Gunship Landing
Kraid Rising
Kraid Dieing
Phantoon Appearing
Phantoon Dieing
Torizo walking to Gravity suit
Maridia Tube Blowing up
Botwoon Dieing (For some reason though he takes longer to appear on NTSC)
Dragoyn Appearing
Dragoyn Dieing
Ridley Appearing
Ridley Dieing
Statue room
Baby metroid event
MB rising
MB being attacked by baby metroid
MB dieing
Gunship Escape
Saving
Recharging

Except from that many other thing are slower on PAL, door opening(duh) shooting beam, charging beam, shooting missiles, shooting Supermissiles, bombs exploding, Powerbombs exploding shinecharge cool down after hitting a wall. And probably I'm still missing things.

Since the difference in a any% run is 3:30 I would say that it's at leas 1 minute more in a 100% and probably more still, possibly 5-6 minutes.

ZOMG long post :o

EDIT: Also some enemies move faster in PAL IIRC sometimes putting them in worse (or maybe sometimes better) positions than in NTSC
^I think I love you.  wub Finally someone proved that PAL version is really slower.

But seriously 100% SS in 1.04/1.05 on PAL kinda made me thinking... Do you think SDA would accept it? It's just thinking since my first thought was to do PAL any%.

I think your must be faster. My time was 1.05 and i use 19 save points. I lose at least 2-3 minutes when i use my save points. 1.02-1.03 is very possible SS goal with PAL, if you have insane amount luck and master SM pal versio skills.

Even sub hour can be possible with PAL, but it is too hardcore for me and it looks like 52 min run with NTSC. Blue glass SS goal is 52 minutes and it looks like 58-59 with PAL.
Hello.

I'm back into speedrunning Super Metroid. :) I did my first SS run in months yesterday and it came out 44 min! In this run I didn't succeed in Phantoon 2 round which really slowed me down, many mistakes and so on, a sucky run. Still I think it's good because only 1 minute behind my SS best time of 43. I really think I can break my SS record in 1-2 weeks easily if this level keeps up.

Maybe I'll even start recording the SS runs if I start getting near under 40 min. ;)

You're telling me that every one of those events takes an average of 10 seconds longer in PAL? I don't believe that for a second...
Almost happy
No I'm not saying that.

The ~3:30 difference is a fact (well I made no video but please trust me) The statue room is a fact (I'm 99% sure) and I'm relatively certain that the baby metroid event is slower to.

The rest is just my theories but since these events are why would not the other be, my best guess is that the slower events (like many other things as shooting) are 1.2* slower on PAL or if you wish take 5/6 of the time on NTSC. In a longer event there is of course more time added then in a short one and as I said maybe not all of them are slower.

But for a fact and this is the most important and only relevant thing, a PAL run should take ~3:30 longer then a NTSC run and tourian alone takes ~1:45 longer (this is what made me start thinking.) Except from that you can choose to believe it or not. (Also to note is that without the torizo skip PAL would be ~4 minutes longer.)

What could possibly add that much time to Tourain?

(And I don't like how you edited that 95% to 99% <_<)
Almost happy
Well the MB fight has the longest event in the game I think, other then that I have no clue.

Oh and editing that from 95-99 was because I changed a few thing after posting and though that just to not make people whine about me not being certain enough let's change it to 99... You F5:ed my ass though.
072, I suggest that if you do not believe CPadolf, try yourself.

Make a save at the gunship on PAL and NTSC roms just before entering Tourian, both having pretty much the same ingame time. Then just play the rest of the game from there on both roms as fast as you simply can and see which one gives you better time. I remember someone stated that Hotarubi had a very high 6/very low 7 mins Tourian segment in his SS 32min. And also, Scarlet has stated that if you have :53 at the gunship before entering Tourian, you can still do <1:00, that means 6 minute segment.

On the other hand, on PAL yet no one has broken the 8 min line with Tourian segment, and I think Max and CPadolf are the only ones that have gotten that 8 min as far as I know.
Waaaaaaa i want insanity
Tourian would be one of my highlights if i were to make a run, it looks better than hotarubi's does IMO. But what i find funny is that i only got the zebetites glitch about 5 months ago.
But i don't know if 8 minutes would be possible on pal. I should do a recording. (once i get a new snes)
Anyway i'll try on an emulator.
Almost happy
I've gotten 8 minutes tourian twice in a SS (usually save at the gunship to check my times there even in SS) But both of those time I had a very low clock at gunship. I'm pretty sure that without getting xx:0x at gunship 7 minutes should be impossible without TASing.
7 minutes on PAL = not gonna happen.

I just did gave SS run a try, ang guess what!

Got pwned by Ridley!

I learned the Phantoon 2 round again though, so I guess that if I start practicing from this day on like 1 SS run a day I'll get my recording done this year. I hope for 36 min SS but I think 37 would be pretty good too.

I'm so rusty with this game now.

Best time single segment: 0.47 (PAL-versio)

-Tonski ask me try any-% SS run. He want see how fast i can beat this run.

-This is my first any-% SS in the game. This not my first SS because i complete two previous 100% SS runs couple months ago.

-34% item (50m 20sm 5pb 6et 1rt)

I get much more energys and missile fire power, because this is SS run.

-I made many mistakes and i don,t get much amount risk.

-Many part can be done much faster. Phantoon took too much time, because i have bad manipulate luck against him.

-Overall this run is not that bad. There is no major mistakes. Of course there is much amount mistakes, biggest one is definitely Phantoon battle and kraid quick kill miss. But kraid quick kill is very rarery on SS run, i miss that but this don,t surprised me.

I am happy my run. This is only 2 minutes slower than my segmented run. Definitely i can improve 2 minutes very easily, if i get much more risk and if i have better luck against Phantoon.
Clear time: 42 min any% SS (PAL-version)

Terrible boss fights, Phantoon took 5 rounds (failure 2 round) for example. I think trick-wise this run was pretty bad. No, really bad. The overall speed luckily made up for the missing tricks. After getting 3 :44 times in a row it feels good to show some progress. :)

1 minute closer to sub 40.
