I always thought time stopped after the timer disappears when your ship arrives... Too bad we can't really prove it unless somebody have a physical timer :)
should come to the m2k2 chat and look for a guy called Bladegash. he is able to look at the time the game has in memory at all times and should be able to tell you the precise moment the time stops at the end of the game.
I tested it this way....

On this one savestate, the game time clicks to 1:15 at around 1:17:50 on the countdown.

I enter the ship at 1:22:00 on the countdown and I still end up with 1:15 in the end.

Sounds like a plan ;) No need for me to time it incorrectly with a stopwatch then :)
Beat it again, this time I got 0:56! I think the best I'll ever be able to do is 55, but thats still pretty good no?
well, only two minutes slower than yours truly, but still several minutes slower than what i think of as nominal ... i.e. something under :50. i won't say you could get anything under :52 (w.dawgs's time), though, since anything better than that would approach a sesshoumaru-like level of skill, only on the real game, not on an emulator. also should warn you that each minute on fusion below about :55 is thought of as being exponentially more difficult to shave off due to the random factors.

still, nothing stopping you from trying. :)
aww man I feel like such a loser my newest time is 1:10. I think I'm just going to stop with fusion.
Try a few 1% runs. I thing those helped me buy teaching me to avoid getting hit.

I have a question for anyone who knows the answer. Can you charge a shinespark after running full speed and jumping, just like you can by falling off the edge of something. I've tried many times but I can't pull it off.

The reason I ask is I need it to work in order for an awesome breakthrough to work. Even if the spark charge thing would work, the breakthrough might not. I have to jump throught a hole, onto a ledge, after opening a gate. But I always nick the ledge, breaking the boost. If I could just keep from hitting it and charge the shine, say goodbye to 1%.

can't say, but if you've successfully done the corollax run off of a ledge and then charge thing, and you can't do it after jumping, i would have to say it's probably impossible ... but don't let that stop you from trying, obviously.

good luck!

Well, I don't think this is possible. I can pull of Corollax's trick 50% of the time. I use the same spot but after falling, I spin in the air. I tried hundreds of times and haven't pulled it off once.
I just finished my first 100% run with  4:55. it sucks my next run will be a 1% percent run like W. dawgs suggested.
Shifty Leader
That M2k2 guy
Have you tried shooting to stop spinning? Maybe that works...then again, I have never held a boost after falling, so I really wouldn't know.
That doesn't work. You stop spinning, but you also stop moving.

Nope, it works. Thats how I'm always doing my air-shinesparks. :P
am i missing something here, or can't you just press jump again to break out of the spin jump?

That's only if you have a charged spark. If you are running at full speed, (which is what I was testing) then you can't shoot to stop spinning.

Are you sure?
lol, oops, i guess once you have sj it would either do nothing or make you space jump again. sorry about that.
I just did another 100% run this time I ended up with 2:35 mins on the clock. I don't think I'm up for a 1% run yet.
I just did a 1% run but my time was 1:14  :( . I've been trying to get 55 in any%, but I haven't been able to do as good as I did when i got 56 Crying or Very sad I guess I'll just keep trying until I get MZM.
I don't see how you guys do it. how can you run thrue this game so many times. I've done it 5 or 6 times and I am sick of it. now I have to wait 'till saturday to go trade XIII for M:ZM. I think I might try another any% run just to see if I can even Improve.
I gave back Fusion, it got boring after I accomplished my goal of sub-2 hours while getting over my flu. It's all about ZM now!
This is how my runs lasted.

Beat the game 1 time. Got new games, so I stopped playing Fusion.
After getting bored with the new games, I played Fusion again for a little bit. Then the game got lost for a good 6 months or so.
Finished playing after finding it to get the Fusion connect bonuses for Prime.
Decided to find all the items (being the perfectionist I am) which took me a good 6 hours.
Thought about making my own map as a reference to see the best ending but I got lazy after 3 boxes on my paper.
Surfed GameFAQs message boards because I was bored of HRC for SSBM.
Heard people were trying 1% runs so I decided to try. Finished it and thought, "That was fun and challenging. I want to do it again."
Did a couple more 1% runs.
Got bored for a month or so. I decided to surf GameFAQs again on the Metroid Prime board for a 23% run I wanted to attempt.
Came across the old Metroid site (Metroid HQ I think). Never really got motivated.
The site shut down and I came across this site. Saw Sess's vids and thought, "I can do that"
Played 5 or 6 more 1% runs getting lower, and lower times.
Noticed that there was no decent 100% speed run guide on GameFAQs and decided to write one. (My first one BTW)
Took a few tries to remember where everything was again and some more to optimize.
Came here with an account to post my times.
Realized that I never did a true speed run and started there.
Did about 3 speed runs.

@_@ what a mouthful
how interesting. I don't know if I want to try a 1% run I don't know if I'm up for it. I can't wait 'till I get mzm.
I went and read your guide on gamefaqs awhile back, and it's really good! especially for a first timer, I'm writing a guide right now and I'm almost finished but its only around 70 KB big :(  I don't even know if they will accept it. Anyway, I've been working on yet another any% run, this time i'm taking it nice and slow and Aiming for 55. I don't know why it doesn't get boring, I still enjoy it and I love certain parts(Going through SRX for the first time and Meltdown are some of my favorites) I think it will get old eventually but it hasn't yet :) .

i love srx i, the serris fight, the yakuza fight, and especially the ridley fight...

the approach to yakuza isn't bad, either, at least not until you've done it a couple hundred times over the course of a day trying to get a perfect approach/boss door/yakuza fight/tro ii and save before nettori.
