Very nice time, Lance. Smashes my :50 SS (I play under the same conditions as you). I just completed an any% TAS of Limit with a time of :56, which I'm fairly proud of (it was pretty weak as TASes go, I just savestated during room transitions and tried to get lots of damage boosts, mockballs, etc. in).

EDIT: Finished a no-assist run of Legacy just now with a time of 1:02. That included skipping the Space Jump, which I'm not sure has been done before (you have to use the temporary blue suit). I could probably go sub-hour, but Legacy is hell to run, so I'll leave it be.
I decided to post my other, recorded 00:41 run here so that "regular" players might have some ideas for easier tricks to perform. Again, I totally screwed up many tricks and gameplay is overall sloppy, but still got 41  :P  I left out the ceres part because I just plain hate that one. I always have about 40-43 left in the clock with my ceres escapes.

This time Kraid quick kill compensated a little for other mistakes. I decided that when I reach 00:39 with this strategy, I will move on to practise those harder tricks even more. Short charge seems to be my biggest problem right now.

So here you go, this one also shows my alternative way to enter WS with shinespark since that good way to do it is just too hard to pull off with first try. At least my own way works every time.

A couple of questions:
About how much in-game time does it take to go through the last section, I mean from the last possible save point before mother brain to the end? Lets assume that player would do the zebetite glitch with first try and mother brain kill and escape are quite ideal. Just curious because I blew one of my greatest runs on MB and it would be nice to know if it would be my personal record  :)

And the other one: Has anyone been able to leave those speed echoes at the end when playing in realtime? I have been trying that for some time but no luck so far. Would be a sweet finish for a speedrun too.
attachment:
my time is 1;05 100% and 42min 36%
Armor Guardian
1:10

41%

I skipped the Grapple Beam, but got owned by Draygon several times. XD
I started a new speedrun on PAL-version. I'm currently at Red Brinstar and leading my 46 min time by a minute. 13 min there. In my 46 min segmented I had 14 minutes in Red Brinstar. My aim time is 44 min, but if everything goes superbly I'll try sub 44.
Speedrunner
Best 100% time: 1.10 (PAL-versio)

-23 segments (22-save)
-Well i finally complete that run. This is same run as my 1.12, but i improiving couple segments again on my third save copy file.

-I get spore sprawn SM expansion without crystal flash
-This run looks pretty much same as my previous one, but probably it is little bit faster. My Draygon battle was amazing job and my Botwoon was in 3 round battle.

-I skip energy recharge before Mother brain, it is harder but still faster way

-I don,t use murder beam. Probably i can get 1.09 ending with murder beam, but it is most stupid metroid game glitch ever. It is very irritating.

lowest possible time with my skill is probably 1.08, but i must be skip save points and i need lot motivations try that. Right now i don,t have enought motivations improve that because my run was pretty good.
Oh yeah Master!! Nice to see you back! Once again you beat me no surprise. :P A minute faster than my 100% time. You might wanna check FinMetroid, a long post waiting for you there. ;)

EDIT:

Finished my any%-segmented today.
Clear time: 43 min any% (PAL-version)

-Completed in 4 days
-Same speedtricks as always, faster boss fights
-Faster overall speed

One of my finest runs... I'm probably taking a break from speedrunnin Super Metroid any%-runs, unless SS. Done these so many I'm almost bored. Low% and 100% interest me on the moment, suitless run is also very interesting. Does anyone have a low% route to post it here?
and I made in the console ,just all saves...
Clear time: 46 min Single-Segment any% (PAL-version)

-All the speedtricks I could think of were done correctly, such as speed mockball in kagoball room, Gravity Suit shine, Norfair gate hater, and stuff like that.

-2 horrible boss fights, Phantoon and Botwoon. Phantoon did all his slowest attacks and I just sucked at Botwoon... MB fight fas Hotarubi-style, as always.

-2 minutes faster than my old SS any%.

So many bad stuff in this run... I think this could be done much faster, as in some parts I found myself trying the same jump for 10 secs or so.
Wow you do all those cool tricks I never manage to do in my run. Just keeps me wondering how you play the rest if your time is not any  better than that. ( Yet, of course :) )

I would like to see your gameplay, but you play on the console mostly, right? Would be nice to absorb some tips for improvement.
Of course I suggest vice versa, even though that run I posted above is of very bad quality but sadly it is still the best time I have managed to get.

Still adjusting for the short charge, just dont have time or patience to practice it enough. Also, keyboard playing makes speedmockballs and gate haters very hard...

My time isn't all that good because it's PAL-version, much harder to speedrun and for example you need some creativity to solve how to do some sparks in PAL-version. For example the pillar room super short charge spacejump (long description :P). In PAL I kinda have to start short charge from the gate in the left room, press the dash button twice on the right moment and just before the door transition begins shoot so that the door opens. In the door before the pillar room I press the dash twice more to get the speed. I don't get the charge before the pillar room beginning, so it would be impossible to do the shinespark in the NTSC-way. (ducking before the room to pillar room) I had to come up with some of my own stuff like this for specific speedtricks.

On NTSC-version, I think I could easily get sub 40, although I haven't managed to do that on PAL even segmented... NTSC is just easier to run. No offence or anything, but your run didn't look like 41 min, and that's what amazes me. I played segmented and losed some saves to save time, used all the tricks and played faster and came up with a 43 min. Maybe it just sucked more than I can imagine. :)

Yes I play mostly on console. Only times when I play on computer is when I TAS. You can find my TAS from www.youtube.com/TonskiTAS . For your short charge learning that doesn't take long. The technique took me like a little longer than hour to learn, and I mastered it while speedrunning. I could of course record some tips where I speak and upload them to Youtube, but IMO that's kinda embarrassing. I sound stupid and so on, besides the quality would pretty much suck.

If you still wonder my times, it might be because of my overall speed isn't all that godlike. In my SS 46min I had some points where I tried the same VERY small jump for 10 secs or so. laugh new

Woah... Sorry for this long post.  grin new
Almost happy
Yea... i think that the yankees are ploting us, Tonski. My 00:42 looked WAY better then lances run (no offens) and even my best SS 00:45 were much better looking, there up to something i tell yee... somthing bad...

BTW Tonski how many saves do you use in your 43 run??
i use 4, one in norfair after getting Wave and speed, one in maridia just before botwoon, one before lowre norfair and last one in samus ship.
Cpadolf you're right. The version differences and all between PAL and NTSC is kinda weird...

I use WAY too many save points... 1 after high jump and kraid, second in Red Brinstar, third after Phantoon in WS, fourth under the glass tube in Maridia, fifth before Botwoon, sixth before Draygon, seventh in Norfair (same as the first save), eighth in LN before Ridley, ninth after Ridley in NL, tenth in Samus's ship.

If I'd narrow it all down and keep my speed on the same level the time would be at least a minute faster. Too bad I'm not all that good yet. We gotta keep it up with PAL Cpadolf, maybe some day we'll have our runs on SDA.  grin new (best PAL-time)
Almost happy
Yea maybe someday  :P .

Having that many saves don´t have to be bad, as long as you save up the time doing harder tricks. But some of the saves seem kind of worthless like saving 3 times in maridia... i think it is impossible to save up all the time that goes to waste there and narrowing it down to 1 save (before botwoon or under the tube) whould deffinetly save some time if you just try a little harder with the segment.

Also i whould like to know what time you had when saving before botwoon.

And i whould like to know, do you measure your  time manually or do you simply go just by the ingame times?

And how many items do you get, endgame percentage?
I had a 21 if I remember right just before Botwoon. You're absolutely right I should narrow down some saves there. 6 saves would probably be enough even with those hard tricks. (hell if I could do them in SS run 6 saves is more than enough) :)

I don't use any second clocks or so to measure my segments, I go by the ingame clock. I know myself when a segment has went well, and you can see that from the ingame timer too. If a boss fight (if there is one) went well along with all the other tricks the segment is good at least.

My SS run had 25% if I remember correctly. It might change along the run but usually 25% or 26%. Sometimes maybe even 27%, haven't had that in a long time though.

Looks like you did something to your profile. :P Avatar and some information in your sig. Your runs are just brilliant, those times speak for themselves. And do I believe my eyes that you're improving your any% segmented??  aiwebs_016  The 42 min is already a magnificent time with so little saves, and you're improving it? Seriously I thought I was one of the best players on PAL-version, but your brilliant times definatedly prove me wrong.

I'll probably next improve my SS run. 46 min didn't feel like the perfect one I could do. I could see my time sub 45 when I'm having a good day. Anyway, I wish you luck to your improvement in any% segmented. Do it man, I know you can go sub 40. ;)

Go go go!!
Almost happy
Well you probably are one of the best PAL players out there and from what i understand you are a little better than me at performing certain hard tricks, (for example you seem to be better at short charge cuz i have some trouble at preforming it at small places like dragyn) but i might have a better overall speed and maybe more damage boost, dont know how much you use...
Still i think i should have little trouble getting sub 42 knowing some more tricks now, so far i am at second segment and at the save before botwoon i´m  geting 20, and i hope to improve to 19.

Still i find manual timing to be a little helpful beacuse sometimes when i think everything were medioker it turns up to be a record by 15 sec but since it still might show the same ingame time i maybe would have erased it to my loss...

I am really getting anoyed at the phantoom segment beacuse i have 5-6 min playtime upp to him and then he choose to use his REALLY slow patterns and completly shatters my run  :|  and im also having a little trouble with getting the spikeromm charge right, only get it 30% of the time and failing costs about 10-15 seconds i think.

In this run im also considering to skip the E-tank before Dragyn, i always end up taking it but i rarly need it, and it costs a good 10-15 sec to get.

Also i wonder do you use shoulderpumping? I usualy do but it dont seem to save more than a couple of seconds per segment and i screw up more using it so i think i´ll stop using it  :|

BTW Tonski, kudos to your TAS it´s lookig realy good for someone that has never made a TAS before, thumbs up and good luck.
19 min before Botwoon would in theory mean 41 min clear time, unless you manage to save even more on your way. As I've stated I know you can get a sub 40, your overall speed is much greater than mine. I use damage boost pretty much often.

I've never used a second clock or anything like that to measure my play time, and I doubt I ever will.

That thing you wrote about Phantoon segment is exactly why I don't like long segments. I can't keep my speed up most of the time and besides all the hard tricks and random boss fights make you start the segment over and over again.

You should skip that energy tank before Draygon, I always do. There's absolutely no need for that. Answering to your question I do not use armpumping at all. Maybe only in very very long rooms when I'm bored (like when going to speed booster). Thanks for complimenting my TAS. I've put all my Super Metroid runs on hold for now, since I'm playing my Zero Mission low%. WHen I'm done with that you might see a new time from me. Have you ever tried a 100% run btw?
Almost happy
Yes i have done a 100% but that was some time ago and i did´nt realy like it and put little effort in it. So my record is something like 1:35 or somthing
Clear time: 45 min Single-segment any% (PAL-version)

In this run I missed many speedtricks, such as Norfair gate hater, pre-Draygon shinespark, and Phantoon 3 rounding. This run isn't my best, but in this run my overall speed was so fast that I made the missing speedtricks not affect that much. This run wasn't all that superb IMO, the missing speedtricks, some slow boss fights and so on are improvable. 42 min SS could be very possible with almost perfect run with my current skills.  :P

I liked this run because after WS my overall speed went up like crazy. For a minute there I looked almost like Hotarubi run.  laugh new But before Wrecked Ship and there my speed was pretty much crap.
Almost happy
Congrats on the new time Tonski. 45 is really good.

How do you do pre dragyn shinespark, like hotaburi or with walljumping (walljumping that fast ought to be semi impossible on console)

And yet another trick i never learned is phantoon quick kill... exactly how do you do the 3 round kill? (If it´s hard to explain could you do a smv?)
EDIT: Found out by myself, swithching the beams back and forth. Or do you do it in another way?

Damn, thinking about it im relying way to much on pure speed instead of usin many tricks, should try to change that this time.
Thanks man.

I do that spark with walljumps. I guess you already found out about Phantoon 3 round kill. If your times are that good without tricks you're really godlike. I can't keep up with your times even with crazy tricks and all!

I really want to see you posting here with a sub 40 time man. How's your segmented run proceeding? I'm probably starting my own today.

go go go
Almost happy
Well im proceeding rather slow beacuse i don´t have veary much time to play the game. At most i play a segment 3-4 times a day but most often less then that, also im going to practice some new tricks to in each segment so it will take a while to finish. But with discovering the phantoon 3 round it should take shorter time to finish this segment.

BTW what was your save time in the gunship before mother brain in your 43 min run? I don´t remember my last save time in my 42 run beacuse it was a long time ago i did it so i want to know what i should be aiming for.

Also i think you should be able to get sub 40 if you only work hard, with all those crazy tricks all you need is an overall good speed.

Also seeing how many tricks you can do, can you do botwoon 1 round like hotarubi?
In my 43 run it was 34 min at the gunship. I can't 1 round Botwoon consistanly, only 2 round. I'm going to start a segmented any%-speedrun with the aim time of 39 min. It's crazy for PAL-version, but I'll work on it for a very long time, use all my tricks and lose half of my savepoints to make the time as small as possible. I need to have 30 min at gunship to achieve in my goal.

Wish me luck, I'm not all that sure I can get a sub 40... I'll sure as hell try it. I'm pretty sure though that you'll get it first, as I'm not even sure I'm capable of doing such a hardcore time.
Almost happy
Heh good luck on getting 39, im sure you will get it.

The two main things that are bugging me in this segment is that i can't do the gate skip after icebeam (seriously how do you get it to work) and i'm having some trouble at getting the spikeroom shinespark to work and only seem to succed when i've done a real crapy segment. Also when a segment is going really good i always seem to get stuck in on of the plant enemies in PB room (seriously now are there an enemy in any game more anoying than these?)

I will be aiming for at least 32 at the gunship then, doing so should get me a time of 41 or 40 but i will try to get there at 30 and thus having a chance of doing a sub 40 witch is just crasy
I want to thank both of you almost WR holders to point out that my 00:41 sucked arse badly. Maybe I will have motivation to do better from now on. Also I am glad that you are always aiming even higher in the time department. I am not a speedrunner and my gameplay sucks, so please dont compare me with any superstars or tricks performers. (I know you said "no offence", dont bother rubbing it to my face the second time)

Also, dont just dont put too much weight on the PAL-thingie, because that really is not worth 10 minutes from "the best NTSC" or even in general.

I might be terribly wrong but when you talk about "yankees", dont include me there, I am actually closer than you think  :)  (yes I know you meant the game version...)

I simply said to look at my run because I thought You (Tonski) might have some trouble with overall speed (as you said). I did not mean to take any example or learn from me, because there really is not anything to learn. It is also a mystery to me how I got 41 with that kind of bullcrap, but that just happened. I promise to make better vids in the future, at least I will watch carefully what kind of things I post here and what I keep to myself.

I got the inspiration to try PAL myself (with emulator of course) and see what kind of gameplay that one provides. So far I have used NTSC because I have thought that it was the most suitable for any kind of gameplay OR speedrun. Some PAL runs have showed me that they might be interesting in a whole different way.

I would like to see some runs from either Tonski, Cpadolf or both, would be nice to learn some general movements from the more experienced ones. It must be hard to record from console, so how about hooking some controller to emu and recording some fancy stuff for us? If PAL is not entirely your thing, you might even consider recording with NTSC ?
Also generally it would be nice to see some of anyones performances in some form (be it smv of even AVI).

Also Tonski, your TAS looks very good, I hope you finish that one, you will be incredible after a while and your first TAS will be quite enjoyable. I cheer you on with that one also.

Sorry about semi-confusing and semi-arrogant post, I am semi-drunk while typing this, but I was semi-sober when I read your comments/conversations the first time.

EDIT: Oh, and please say Hotarubi instead of houtaburi or hotaburi, I respect the person and japanese in general too much to let that kind of mistakes flow by.
