My first "speed-run" (saved at ship at 1:59, got 4 last items I forgot, and saved again at 2:10)...kinda sucked though, first time at 100% though. :)

I'll be trying for sub-1H tomorrow.
in the name of justice!
wow, that's pretty good.

for me to get sub-1 i'd have to REALLY tighten up the first part of the run (past kraid) and do better against ridley's guard pirates (as i usually have to heal fully and get some supplies before fighting him, taking several minutes).  i think you will do well.
Just finished.
Saved at the ship at 1:22, finished game at 1:32 (a 48 minute improvement!).
I think that's pretty sweet. :)

I still need to work on the Wrecked Ship (saved at 0:4x), Maridia (saved at 1:02) and Lower Norfair (1:2x). Hey, at least this time I didn't forget any items. :D

And I need to perfect the Kraid Quick Kill - that would save me some time - and that quick morph thing. (ice beam, first missile)
01:01 on any% - don't know the percent though (:P)

This board is kinda dead though. :(
Did a E-tankless run in 1:20 with 99% items (e-tanks and reserve-tanks not included), saved at last savepoint.
The last % is a Super Missile in Crateria wich is immpossible to get IMO, couse u have to "Super Jump" a long way and your health goes to 29 before u can get up.

Did you try to wall jump up the wall a bit farther and then speed boost?
I did like 30 tries with the wall jumping then speed boost but I got only as close that I could see the speedblocks (around five "blocks" from reaching the top).
Oh yeah a new record for me!

2:04
58%

You guys think I should make a vid of this and send it in? I might be able to cut a minute or two off, but I'm not sure. Or is there already a record for 58%? I finished this run earlier today.
what is significant about 58%?
Haha, Nate. It was mostly a joke post. I really did get 58% in 2:04 today though.
47 min with 35% in one sitting on a Emulator (Snes9x) but without slowdowns and savestates. I used my own route which I think is most comfortable for my playing-skills.

I recorded a movie-file while playing as a proof. You can get it along with the needed Emulator to playback on http://www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/snes9xmovies.htm

EDIT: Also want to say thanks to "Red Scarlet" and "Smokey" for their awesome speedruns. I almost couldn't believe the skill-level they have shown in their runs is humanly possible.
Ok, my best time...acctualy im rather proud of this. Dont remember the time precisley but it was about 2.30 something. Also think of that i did NOT use any kind och glitch (including mockball) and i got somewhere between 80 - 90%
Second time I finish the run : 1:34

I didn't skip the grapple beam and I didn't get the wave beam early.
With Graveworms route and some tweeks by myself I completed the game at 100% with a time of 1:21 in the pal version. That is about 11 minutes better than when using scarlets route and I do not do everything good cuz of the lack of a working gamepad.

Has Graveworm even posted his route anywhere?  I've been interested in seeing this for a while now, and haven't seen it.
No, I havn't released it anywhere, when I'm done with all the changes, I'll post a video of it.
Then how does TixFrix know about it?
Same family so I practicly know everything he does. ;)
Nice. Then maybe it's time to upload the route-information somewhere...

It's not all figured out yet.
Quote from MonsterERB, posting on SCU a bit over 3 months ago, :
Hadn't played this game in ages.  Popped it back in this week, downloaded Zeric's map so I would know where the heck I was going, and ended up with 65%, 3:04.  Much better than I expected.  (Note - this was a no-sequence breaking run.  I've never sequence broken SM, but I've been reading up at m2k2, and watched Smokey's 0:36 vid... so there's some tricks I'd like to try.)
...
Anyway, 3:04 was much better than I was expecting, seeing as this is the first time I've touched SM in about 10 years.  Wink

Well, I later redid the final segment of this for a 3:03.  That was several months ago... but for the General Gaming Contest "Super Metroid speed run" round over at SCU, I started up a new run.  And, this last weekend I finished my first ever SM speed run, with a few sequence breaking tricks. (Early supers = skip Spore Spawn. Spazer and Kraid before high jump. Ice beam before speed booster. Wave beam w/o grapple. Wrecked ship shinespark break-in + Maridia walljumping = grapple skip = no Crocomire.) Final time was 1:24, with 41% item collection. I might redo the final segment soon for a 1:22 or 1:23, as I messed up a few parts badly. (Final save before gauntlet was 1:17.)
...
I'm quite pleased with this run - my first ever speed run of the game, and under 1:30.  I would have been happy with 1:45, so I'm thrilled with 1:24.  Just gives me a warm tingly feeling.  :D  Almost like I actually know what I'm doing in this game.  The one thing that held this run back was TIME - I had one week to complete it for the SCU contest, and not having ever sequence broken/speed run SM before, I took a lot of mistakes in some segments, just to get them done.  If I redid this run, exact same route, no extra skill, and just took my time to get higher quality segments, I could probably turn in a 1:15 run easy.
in the name of justice!
YOU are a MEAN PERSON.  I still can't get under 1:30 no matter what.

Is it funny or sad that my MP time will probably eventually be lower than my SM time?
Don't worry, Spine Shark.  I see from your profile that you're 16.  That means that I started playing video games approximately 9 years before you were born.  You'll eventually get to my level of mastery, when you're as ancient as I am.  Wink  (I'm kidding, by the way.  About the mastery part, at least.  I am 33, and started videogaming back in 1980.  That part's true.)
...
I've played videogames SOOO much, in fact, that I've gotten really, really, really good hand-eye coordination when it comes to gaming.  I can take a game like Super, and turn in a decent speed run in my first effort, in a week.  And, I really only had a few "gaming sessions" for this run.  One was up to Brinstar, then practicing the mockball.  Then, after learning to mockball, I did the Kraid, Norfair, and powerbomb segments the next day.  Did Wrecked Ship-Phantoon the next night.  Maridia and Draygon, then to Ridley's HO the next night.  Took a day off, did Ridley/Tourian/finale on Saturday morning.
...
My problem is that my speed runs never get past "decent".  I'm willing to spend a week or two on a run, but that's about it.  I don't have the time, energy, or willpower to devote myself to practicing/running/re-running a game for the weeks/months needed to turn in a quality run.  I mean, if you look at my times on the TMT board, you'll see what I mean:
...
Metroid 1 - 0:41:30 - decent, but not great.  Did practice enough to be able to do a 1-boss run and the frozen rio bomb jump entry into Tourian, which is something, I guess.
MZM - 2:32 - very slow.  But, I've only finished the game twice.  I've practiced (and pulled off) some sequence breaks, and am planning to speed run this game soon.
Prime 1 - 1:58 - probably my best game in the Metroid series.  Spent about 2 weeks on this run, and a good deal of time learning the sequence breaks and speed tricks.  IMO, any Prime run under 2 hours shows a pretty good amount of skill.  I'm currently working on getting a 2:30 100% run done, and might someday try to get a better any% done.
Prime 2 - 6:28 - very slow.  Only finished it 3 times, and none was a speed run.  I'm planning a sequence-breaking speed run of this, once I finish my MZM speed run.
Metroid 2: Return of Samus - 1:54 - decent, not great.  This was my second runthrough of the game, done in about 3 days on my GameBoy player.
Super Metroid - 1:24 - decent, not great.  Talked about above.  Might someday go for a sub-1:00 run, if I take the time to learn some honest-to-God speed tricks.
Metroid Fusion - 1:32 - decent, not great.  A half-assed attempt at a speed run - basically, used no speed tricks, but did try to get each segment free of bad mistakes and backtracking.
...
So, if you want someone to turn in a decent run on a game pretty quickly, but not a run that will really impress anyone, I'm your man.  World records aren't something that interest me, as the level of dedication required for that kind of skill makes the gaming experience more work and less fun.  At least for me, it does.  Wink
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Someday you'll watch the SM speed runs, and that will be cool, erb.
Quote from Red Scarlet:

* detects sarcasm *
I haven't watched them all, but I have watched Smokey's 0:36 any%.  Learned a few tricks that I managed to pull off - and saw about 215 others that I tried and failed miserably.  (Not to mention the 79 tricks that were obviously too cool for me to even attempt.)
...
I'm not saying my run was great or outstanding in the grand scheme of speedrunning SM - just that for someone doing their first ever speed run in Super (and learning sequence breaking in SM as they go), I think 1:24 is pretty good.  My other point was that SS will be able to beat 1:30 eventually, if he just sticks to it.  I might be able to pick up a game faster than most people due to my 25-year-videogame-nerd history.  Wink
