Has anyone actually recorded getting into the room behind the Spore Spawn in real time without using the crystal flash?

Also, can I get information on exactly how to do the super short shine spark?
Thread title:
Destroyer of Pirates
you can get up to spore spawn super missiles if you get super missiles early by running at the hole and firing a super down it due to the way super metroid's scrolling works IIRC.

but its impossible to get above spore spawn because there are a pair of crumble blocks blocking the way to him above the shaft, i might go record this now.

ill put the video link if i get it done, ok.
Well, I was only saying to get behind to get the missle pack. Mmm... Not sure why exactly I am asking the question anyway, it was easy to do so it must have been done in real time.
Almost happy
Yes it is pretty easy to do it realtime, if you just have the right position you can do it by just doing a standing just and shooting a super without moving forward.

Screenshot attached for the correct positioning. Use the marked plant (or whatever it is) as a guideline for where to stand.

I feel sad now. I figured this was something that was near impossible until I figured out how to do it on my own. I am honestly out to beat Red Scarlet's time. She could have easily done the same thing which puts me behind again. So now I have to optimize even more..
Hotarubi has a :50 SS run on youtube. Look it up some time.

Mmm... Well, this sucks. Not sure how legit that run is, but I feel like I have an even higher bar to reach for...

It's legit. It's just Hotarubi :)

Yeah, it's just not the official record yet, as he plans to get sub-50 before he sends something in.

If you can get the route down, getting under 0:55 is easily done with some practice.  The remainder of the time is down to consistency of tricks, which is where I fall down. Sad

I haven't watched the whole thing yet, but is he using Cpadolf0's route?

No. Norfair before kraid just isn't possible in realtime (not without stacking up on E-tanks first anyway, which defeats the purpose), and I think there are some other changes too because of not being able to pull of various tricks. IIRC it's not even necessarily the best route for a unassisted run, but I don't have much info on that.

Also call me Cpadolf and not Cpadolf0 The only reason I'm named that on youtube is that I had already made an account named Cpadolf and forgot the password.

Heh alrighty.

I can almost make it through the first 3 rooms. Just need it to be more optimized and luck based. I didn't get a lot of health on the way and had to use my auto. Also, after getting the speed booster, what do you do to get that missle outside the room? I can get it open and myself in, but don't manage to grab it until I jump again.
Almost happy
Because I turn around in mid air I preserve my upward momentum until the missile is possible to grab. You should just wait a little longer though before jumping to get it.

I usually grab the missiles on the way in, to be honest.  No particular reason why, I guess. Very Happy  Just in case you mess up the collection, and get caught by the rising lava, maybe... Eh?

Not entirely sure what you mean. Wait longer before jumping while inside the door?

Just quicker, by a lot likely, if you get it on the way out. Unless of course you can do it the same way on the way in.

I can only really see the missile collection saving maybe a second or two if you do it on the way out. Eh?

Regarding Cpadolf's info: Read This.  Basically he shoots the block while jumping, and even though he may hit the block, because he's turning around, once the shot-block is gone, he continues upward, rather than falling back down.

There's a wealth of knowledge there, even if you're not TASing, so it's worth a read.  Just be aware - I believe it's still pretty out-of-date at the moment.

I just didn't understand the way he explained it. It wasn't really referring to when to turn. Thanks though. You told me what I need to know.

Well you'll probably have to wait to jump until you have entered the corridor again. I imagine that it'd be very hard to consistently pull of grabbing the missile if you jump through the door. And it saves very little time.

Alrighty... Question. If I were to skip the first missle in the first 3 rooms of Norfair, fill up my health at least reasonably full each chance I get, including before the speed boosters and after, would it save time going to Norfair first?
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
What do you mean by going to Norfair first?  The intended route is Norfair (Hi-Jump) > Brinstar - Kraid (Varia) > Norfair (Grapple + Ice) > Wrecked Ship.  What's your planned route change?

I want to go High Jump, Booster, Grapple, Whatever else, Varia.

Nope. For Norfair first to be fruitful you need to go through it flawlessly, more or less (the major time saved from it is just realtime from less doors anyway, not so much ingame time). You'd have to take the missile at once, you'd have to make do with at most one or two rounds of refill at each pipebug encounter, and if you are going for Wave (which I guess is very inconvenient to skip in a unassisted run), you have to refill to full health and play perfectly to not die. Basically it's not possible to do norfair first in a resonably quick manner without grabbing a bunch of extra E-tanks to begin with. Hell, even with grabbing pretty much all energy possible and playing more or less completely perfectly I still ended up nearly dieing at two points in the norfair run in my TAS.

I think hotarubi goes up through the Red Brinstar shaft on his first visit there and grabs the PB there before going to kraid, which also speeds norfair up a bit. It is not confirmed to be faster to do so though, in the end it is probably very close either way.
