ok, this is something ive always been confused about, but:

the 4 beam upgrades (charge, wide, plasma, wave) all give your beam a new appearance.

but do they override, or combine?

the charge beam just adds strength, and alters appearance

The wide beam adds strength, alters appearance, and widens beam

the plasma beam adds strength, alters appearance, and gives beam penetrating feature

the wave beam adds strength, alters appearance, and adds wall penetrating feature.

the only problems are that the plasma beam isnt normally wide (i think?) and the wave beam goes through enemies. these are just minor differences though.

The ice beam has the features of all previous beams, so it could support the combining theory, but it could be because it was received from SA-X, so it was all beams combined, just called the ice beam....

Note: assume that charge beam is a newe beam, and also adds charging feature

so what do you think?
Thread title:
As demonstrated by Super Metroid the beams combine to make one almighty beam that annihilates most enemies in one hit.

In the Fusion manual it says:

Charge: Charge up the normal beam's energy for a more powerful shot.

Wide: Use the Wide Beam to shoot three normal beams at the same time. The possibility of hitting something greatly increases.

Plasma: This beam passes through enemies, hitting multiple targets.

Wave: Shoot through obstacles with this undulating beam.

But, when you pick up a new beam upgrade it has all the properties of the previous beam so the beams must be combining.

Otherwise, this happens:
Charge:Can't shoot.
Wide:Can't Charge
Plasma: Can't charge;looks like this: ----
Wave:Can't charge;shoot ONLY through objects;looks like this:oooo
Ice:Can't Charge;can't shoot through enemies or objects;looks like this:----

Never, ever, EVER use that many exclamation points ever again.
How many did he use?
More than twenty.

Just for the record, you didn't need more than one smilie there.
I was gonna write that, but that would be mini-modding and off topicness, which isn't a good combination in the eyes of a moderator.

Wasting a post like that (especially in a game forum) is also looked down upon by a moderator. Don't do that.
i see only one exclamation point there

It was edited, probably by Yoshi.
Would mods leave such a horrific sight for everyone so their eyes would burn?

If we're feeling particularly mean. Now let's get back on topic.
There is a problem. When you get more powerful so do enemies. That's why Screw Attack is last, Screw Attack kills ALL enemies. So baisically it is the same challenge level throughout the game (except for bosses). Otherwise, even just w/ the Plasma Beam, you would OWN previous enemies (I found some old enemies and ONE hit PWN'D it).
I don't really think we actually need to do much more discussing about whether the beams are intergrated or not.

Edit: Wow, a simulpost at the same time.

As long as it's on-topic, I don't care.
Just press "start", then R and you'll see that all your beams is in a little window called "beams" or something. Yup, that's your beams, and I sure as hell can't see any of them de-selected.

Really, this topic can't do anything else but go off-topic now.

First of all, radu, you need to get rid of this avatar - it's far too big.

And on-topic.

I doubt that the beams are upgraded in layers technically. When you get a new beam, your old is replaced. So even if you AR'd to get Wave Beam from the beginning, it still would be like when you get it from BOX II playing normally.

Short Circuit.

The original topic title was something like "Beam weapons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
One shall stand, one shall ball.
But with more exclamation points I assume.
