There's enough processing capacity on the DS to do a SM remake AND an original port . . . on ONE CARTRIDGE!  Our problems are solved . . .
Thread title:
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Not really, you'd still have to buy a new system to play it.
And who here isn't going to get a DS?  I know I am . . .
I'm not going to get one. Ever. So there.

Neither am I. Metal Gear's coming out on the PSP and not the DS. And I'm a long time Metal Gear fan. So there. Go Hideo Kojima. :P

I was going to get a GBA SP, but now I'm going to get a DS instead.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
You could play original Metroid and Super Metroid AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!!!

...Yeah, no you couldn't. But I don't see how else they could use the two screens for SM.

UNLESS your inventory was open all the time, and you used the stylus to equip stuff...
Okay, I like that idea. Do it Nintendo.
How much is this DS gonna cost?  I'm not really in the mood to buy another system, primarily because the only game I would get right away is metroid.  Guh!  What is a metroid lover to do?

According to the Ninty press conference, "a reasonable price".

.....................so like, another $80? (or whatever the SP was, I can't remember)
$80?  The SP was $100.  I'm expecting this to be around $300 when it hits, but hey, what the hell!  The DS definitely doesn't look like it will go the way of the Virtual Boy.

I just found out that they have a Wario Ware planned for the DS as well.  Think about it.  Two screens, one touch, voice recognition . . . WarioWare would drive you absolutely BATTY!
$300?!!! The GCN was $200. Lets think of a price that is a bit lower like $150.
Maybe.  But you have to remember, dual screen, touch screen, voice recognition, 1 GB carts, wireless . . .

Then again, maybe my guessing skills suck.
I think they might, after all, this is a hand held system.  Ima go ahead and say $100.
Heh.  I suck at guessing distances/lengths, too.

....that was pretty fucking random.
I'm writing an essay about Macbeth.  Don't trifle with me.
I hope Nintendo stays with 100 dollars, I'm gonna buy one if it costs that, if not what the hay, GBA:SP suits me
Gamecube shot down to $100. DS should't be much higher. Maybe $150 tops.
I gota say the system will cost around, 150-200$.
So, what the hell is it?  The next gameboy, or some alternative cash cow?

Its a alternative cash cow I agree. But it has 2 LCD screens if ya call it that. But you have to remember it will make games alot cooler.

First and foremost, it's "remember", not "rember".

And I personally think this two screens deal will mean probable harm to the system sales; first, because of this equation:

1 LCD Screen + 1 ADDITIONAL LCD Screen = Massive Battery Suckage

And second, because as Tooz pointed out somewhere else, the uses I've been seeing for the second screen have been nothing more than of the lazy type. Time might prove me wrong, but I personally have the feeling that this could very well be VirtualBoy 2.0, in terms of success.

you are aware the PSP metal gear is a turnbased card-type game, right?  I saw some videos of it, i don't konw how the hell you actually play the thing though.  Looks like a strategy (grid based) game mixed in with card based "fighting".
weird.

not to mention there are so  many issues with the PSP (the 2 hour battery life, 300-400$ projected cost, fact that you have to buy a memory stick, nothing covering that absordly expensive screen) that I personally think the thing is going to be a flop.  Not to mention that all the games announced for it are ports of some sort, with the exception of metal gear acid.  Which i don't know what the fuck it is.
of course, the thing does have very beautiful graphics and sound i will have to applaud them for that.
Sony stated its battery life is "2-10" hours, the "10 hours" is apparently if your listening to music, no visual, but for playing a game, devolopers have been saying its not even lasting a SINGlE hour.  What the hell kind of portable system is that?
-------------

The DS itself is supposed to cost 150$ or less, likewise, incase you guys haven't heard, it DOES have backwards compatibility, and then  BlueTooth wireless(100 feet) WiFi (online wireless) the microphone in, lower screen is a touchpad, and a ton of other very nifty little things.
The battery life is supposed to be about the same as an SP, they managed to fit a better into the thing or something.  Likewise, LCD screens and backlights aren't nearly as big of a drain on batteries as MOTORs.  Thats why the PSP's battery life is so short, it has an optical drive, which sucks up far more than 5 LCD screens possibly could.

I'm curious what the launch titles will be.  (and i really hope pac pix and mario clouds will be part of wario-ware)  I think that mario 64x4 and prime hunters will be launch, thats enough for me.  hopefully wario-ware and a few other things.  I'm also very interested in viewtiful joe DS and FF:CC DS.  But we have to wait till the next gaming show to see those in motion.
Anyway, the DS has wowed me completely since the first time i saw it, i'll definately be buying one on launch day, even if i do have to wait in a line.  (and i hope i do, that would be great, lines are so much fun!)

Anyway,  in reference to the first post.
The original super metroid could have easily fit onto a GBA cartridge with a ton of room to spare, the game itself wsa probably only about 1 meg, maybe 2.  The DS can hold games up to about 200 or so megs (1.0-1.5 gigbits is what has been said)
Likewise, i wouldn't mind a port of it, and as ive stated in the other 2 threads, i'd prefer an advanced port.  At least we have enough buttons for it now.  I know nintendo won't let the 2d metroid games dissapear, just as theyve kept the 2d zelda's alive, and (soon to be) theyre finally making a new 2d mario sidescroller (for the DS)
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
Wow. 2 HOURS? And developers stating it's not even that? I feel much more secure in Nintendo's future. I mean, it's usually about the game, not the hardware, but 2 hours = t3h pathetic.
