I discovered something in Kraid. When you get off the elevator, go all the way to the bottom of the shaft, and take a right. You know that small cramped room with the little zipline that goes over a chain of two crumble blocks, a divider, and two more crumble blocks with bombable pillars on each side? Good, now that it's burnt into your memory, I discovered a really apparently useful trick in that room! I somehow managed to get from the right side of the room to the left WITHOUT the ziplines activated! It involved insanely difficult bomb jumping skills that I couldn't repeat on the other side (although there's no reason you shouldn't be able to). You can bomb jump to that height, then rapidly bomb yourself along  the top of the instant-crumblies and to the other side! I used something like the early w wall missile tank trick in Kraid's lair nearby, but it's MUCH harder. I'll try to explain in further detail when I get home, as it sucks typing on this super mini laptop keyboard. For now...just try it out. I do believe this means a low% Kraid first without Acid Worm can be even faster. This means you, AJ! MUAHAHA!!!

Holy crap, I forgot until I just played again! Not only will it likely kill you to do this horribly insane stunt, but I just realized what Kraid first no ziplines means! THE ULTIMATE HBJ OF D00M!!! AJ, if you ever want to try it out, I pray to the goddess of cows that you don't kill yourself over it. Good luck.

A vid would be a great thing when you get home, Jag.  Not only AJ, but GC04, transience, and the other low%ers could get in on this.

Nah, AJ's cooler. :P jk

Well, I don't have a ROM for it now, so I'll have to download that when I get home to submit it.
I don't think that transience was a low% runner. I thought he was an any% runner.

Low % is the slowest type, so it would probably help in any% too, which skips the acid worm as well.

Well, assuming you get speed boost, I assume it'd actually be faster to shinespark out anyways.

EDIT: CRAP! I overlooked the fact that that's not where Kraid is...you can't get back up there. Damn, I thought I wason to something.
Oh well, I might find something in my " play around" file.

well, I did 15% normal in 35:27 once when I was testing for speed, picking up an energy tank by accident. I believe 32, 33 minutes is possible for 15%.

as for this "trick", I haven't been able to duplicate the bomb jump, but once you remove the second crumble block, you can unmorph and either grip or walljump your way through the second block before it reappears if you're really, really fast. it's pretty much useless as there's a missile block in your way that you can't shoot, but for "hey, look what I can do!" purposes, it's kind of neat. good find.

while playing with this, I decided to screw around - there's a missile near the bottom left that you need the ziplines to get thanks to a bunch of crumble blocks. with some very difficult walljumping  (and probably power grip), you can get this without ziplines. dunno if anyone's ever tried this before.
I've managed to clear the wall.  It's hard, but it just takes luck and timing.  At least I've gotten better at IBJ now.  BTW, how are you supposed to clear the missile block in the next room?

BTW, using the magic of cheating, I managed to get to Kraid without power grip, and I found out that in the long zip line room, speed boosting doesn't work well since it's almost impossible to recover by wall jumping before getting creamed... unless you make the shinespark a little higher than usual.  I wonder if that helps out much?

...what? I was thinking more along the lines of Kraid without pgrip at all. And about that missile block that was in the way in the next room, that's why I said on the way back from Kraid (although yes, by this time it is useless because you can't get back straight from Kraid). You'd clear that one missile block on the left, then come around and shoot out the missile block on the right and come through to do the trick in question.

This was the W wall I was refering to, actually. You can relatively easily bombjump up to the crumbly and bomb yourself onto the other crumbly to get this missile. I reckon it's possible to get that other missile further right with the zipline where you have to clear the roadblocks, but...hell no. Not even on emulator.
I actually just did this in a ZM run I'm doing. I can't really take a video of any of it... but the Rio-infested zip line room is much easier to finish if you shinespark near the ceiling. Once you hit the other side, you can land on the ending platform. As for the Rio's, I had already nabbed the Screw Attack, which made them easier. I'd imagine, though, that it'd be possible to scramble into the tunnel as soon as you land.

Isn't that done in the any% and 100% runs already? It's fairly well known already. If you're quick enough, you actually can get in there. You may need to spark off at a certain height, I'm not sure.
