What happened to the kraid-mouth gate thing? it looks glitched from what i can tell.

Correct. It says "23456789".

It only slows down when I enter a huge room with a lot of enemies (like the brinstar shafts). If I kill all of the enemies, it's fine. VBA still says it's running at about 100% though. *goes to update*

Oh, and while I considered doing it on a console, this would take far longer, as each screwup means you have to get the block to not appear again.

EDIT: Updated, and it's still doing it. VBA always says it's at about 100%, even during slowdown. Turning off the sound makes it run rediculously fast. Increasing frame skip and decreasing resolution doesn't effect the slowdown. I think it's that my computer just can't handle it.
Quote from SkippyJr:
How about a boss fight during the countdown?  The boss music takes presedence over the normal BGM, just like the escape music.  Perhaps it, and other code, have presedence over the escape.

There is plenty of time to reach grown-up Imago.  Also, if you get the long beam just before entering Tourian, will the giant sidehopper battle take place when coming back through?

Anyone planning to try this with Imago or hm, Acid Worm or even the charge beam thing?  I'm inclined to think it wouldn't work too, but if the countdown is considered part of one boss battle, then another boss battle might override it.
I would think nothing would stop it except getting in either ship (Samus's or the Pirate sperm ship), because it isn't coded anywhere except in those two events to stop the timer.
Stop listening to Spine_Shark and get the VBA version from Bisqwit's site.
I got the newest version of VBA and it didn't help.

EDIT: Oh, the Bisqwit one. Didn't know about that.

EDIT EDIT: W00t, the sound now syncs perfectly and almost all of the slowdown is gone (still some in the yellow Brinstar shaft, but shooting a couple zoomers helps). What would we do without you, Ekard?

EDIT v3: New run uploaded of considerably better quality.

King Edit IV: If you leave MB's room to the right and come back, the room isn't exploding and MB's jar is there, but you can pass through it and can't shoot it. Also, the block never appears.

Ready and willing.
If I remember what Nate said, the GBA can go into supercharge mode taking more power for things like bosses, and it wasn't until now that VBA took that into account.
in the name of justice!

I'm not sure if reccomending that advice makes me look more or less stupid...

Well that's weird.  I guess it had to be the case, I recharged my batteries like four times during the 15% hard Iron Ted week.
I haven't found anything to help with the getting of an Early Power bomb, but I did find something interesting that I haven't heard anyone mention.

After Mother Brain is beaten, while she's flashing, but not yet gone, run into her.  You'll run in place, not getting hit, but because the game thinks you're moving, it charges the Speed Booster.  Nothing incredible, but it may make for a few seconds off the escape.

Hehehehe, speed runs for the win!  That trick is used in all the runs I've seen (except aj's 10%).
Quote from Chanoire in the Festivus topic:
I'm disappointed in LifeMega for not trying a boss fight during ZM's countdown, as if similarly long shots haven't been tried before.
Ok then. As per Chan's request, here you go. I killed Imago before the timer ran out, and my head a-splode. I started the movie at Norfair, because everything before that is the same.

EDIT: I also made this one. I haven't seen this trick anywhere on the site or in any runs. It's a shinespark that let's you get both items in Crateria's upper-right room at once (I know the one to get the SM is known, but I've never seen it strung together with the Missile).
http://www.metroid2002.com/lifemega/Crateria_shinespark_comp.avi
Sigh.

This was the closest we've ever been to getting the power bombs too. :/

I'm out of ideas at any rate, unless having the timer on somehow changes the roomstate of a room with a PB.  But considering everything that's been done so far... I highly doubt it.  Didn't someone say that the expansion at the landing site was missing during the escape?
IIRC, the expansion at the landing site is there, but until you escape from Tourian and take off in the ship, you can't get it. You just pass through it. Also, it's behind Power Bomb blocks, so you wouldn't be able to get it anyway.
Thank you for checking!  Oh well.
Another random movie: I find my way of doing the Brinstar SM Shinespark to be faster and easier than the one on the site.

lol no way
Yeah, that's definitely way fast. Good find man.
lifemega, go ahead and upload a huffyuv version of that for inclusion in the site.

That recording VBA makes big movies. :P
Yay, my first m2k2 submission!
I've been doing that for a while now;I  just assumed other people knew about it.
I had assumed everybody's known about this... I'm pretty sure it was on the site before the great purge.
lol no way
Entirely possible, and I just never remembered it... but it doesn't really matter, he found it. Works out well in any case, however it happened.
Makes sense. I was surprised it wasn't on the site. That's the only way I've ever done it. I never even considered jumping onto the platform in the blue shaft.
in the future, you should submit vba videos (both files), as the framerate in that huffyuv was poor. and it was fucking huge, too.
Okay, here:
http://www.metroid2002.com/lifemega/Brinstar_Shinespark.vbm
is that the new format, and if so, does it really only require one file?
