Where did he come from? I haven't even heard of him anywhere other than fusion. Can someone shed some light on this please?
Thread title:
The minds of those in charge of Metroid's plot.

Well of course, but does he have any significance anywhere other than fusion?

That was an extremely quick reply.

The story that Samus recalls in Fusion about a former CO named Adam Malkovich is not fully understood since it is not mentioned anywhere except in Fusion.  All we know is what's talked about in the game.

Actually, Adam is seen in the Metroid manga (not so much the web-based one, but a couple printed volumes), fully translated and available in teh 'netz.  To be specific, here's his first appearance (end of Chapter 3 (of 16; where'd that Bible come from?)).  I'd suggest reading through it; ain't too bad, though it's weird to try to pin a proper voice for Ridley, considering his screeches in the games (or at least ZM and Fusion, for me).  Far as I think I know, it's Nintendo-sanctioned, and doesn't much go against what we know from the games, so it may as well be considered ofikal (unless MP4ish or M5 dispel anything).

Not sure what the sarcasm is about here.  I answered your question - the story hasn't really been told.
we'll have to wait for nintendo to release another metroid game explaining it (if they ever do).

Best case scenario is that they conveniently forget he ever happened in the first place.

;(

i guess it would be hard to make a game explaining adam without any of the same boring stuff from fusion.
Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
Like everything else, there doesn't need to be an explanation for his appearance.  There doesn't have to be an obvious link to the ther games in the series.  Perhaps they're separate stories.  Maybe they just decided that they wanted Samus to be on a ship, getting directed around by a computer, which actually turns out to be somebody she knew.  "Now, we just need a name..."  *Pluck name from the air*  You could ask where any number of characters come from, in any number of games, films, books, et cetera.  The only game I can think of that goes anywhere near explaining that much about history and stuff is Metal Gear, with its billion pages that you have to read before you can even move Snake anywhere.*

FFT and FFXII seem to involve a slew of doofy names warring with each other over other doofy names, but since those are RPGs, they're prolly exempt.

As for Adam, his signifigance/significance to Samus seems like a untold plot point, such as what happened that he sacrificed himself over for her to save her own ass, and perhaps what Samus was doing with the GF and what caused her to leave.  (which, to plug it, might be explained in teh manga; I don't remember if Malkovich died during the run, but it did show post-GF times)

You're pretty much right. I think because it had such a focus on story, every off-the-wall tangent the story went on needed to be explained in order for there to be another.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
speaking of adam, i was hoping he would show up in mp3 and do his thing there to tie the series more closely. given the plot mp3 had, he could have been in and die in the later parts when samus was getting more corrupt or something.

instead, they threw away their chance and created more useless 1-time characters and the adam plot point remains unexplored.

You read my mind. If they were going to introduce characters that spoke, at least make us give a crap.

You say that as if anyone actually gives a crap about Adam.

I can say with complete certainty that Adam being one of the major characters in Corruption would not cause me to care anymore about the plot or characters not named Samus Aran than I did in Fusion.

Being a bit surprised that Samus needed human mentoring after being Chozified is kind of caring. It also makes me wonder how badass he must be for Samus to respect him so much.

He's pretty badass.  Take a look at these scans from the Metroid manga.  In that second link, the guy in the top-left panel in Adam (possible spoilers).

As for how Adam may have died (spoilers, of course), check these scans.  It would be helpful to know that they are happening during Zero Mission.

As soon as I saw this topic, it reminded me of this.  I'm just glad we're actually being serious this time around.  Also, I really hope that Adam isn't as flickerbatting annoying in Other M as he was in Fusion.

At least he looks like a man.  Adrogyny is for characters Samus looks down upon.
He's not sexy enough.  A uniform like that is supposed to make a guy sexy, but he just doesn't look sexy at all.  I guess its a good thing though since we know he's gonna die anyways.  Can't wait to find out how.
