I think there should be a separate forum for discussing hacks. I'm tired of constantly going into the Super Metroid SBing/speedrunning forum and rarely finding new posts about anything but hacks.
But it's the Sequence Breaking and Speedrunning forum, not the Rom Breaking and Speed Hacking forum.
Em... no. It is a Super metorid discussion forum. For ANY thing about super metroid.
Beside... This is a metroid forum not a ROM-hacking forum, You can hardly expect it to get its own forum here.
Then why does it say "Sequence breaking and speed running" above the table that the SM forum is in?
Anyway, I still don't see what the big deal about hacks is. I can see how a hack can get its own topic on a forum about the game it is a hack of, but getting over 50 pages worth of attention is just overdoing it. Especially since so many hacks of one game are made. Super Metroid alone has at least 5 hacks with topics on this forum, and each one gets multiple new posts every day while posts about what this forum is meant for get ignored and shrugged off. In my opinion, the work and dedication made by a speedrunner has much more value than a raped and butchered version of the ROM of a perfectly good game made to get recognition. I just don't see why it gets so much attention.
have to get more people who want a separate hacks forum for me to make one.

This is pretty much exactly what I've been thinking for months. It's been disappointing to see that there are new posts only to find that they're all essentially about other games which happen to share some common points with the one the forum's about.
Let me say that I would support this...but that my say in the matter should be completely ignored. I can't think of the last time I posted in one of the game forums.
Oh. Actually it was only a month ago.
Still, it seems silly for me to say that I have any vested interest in this.
On the other hand, if you split the forum like that, would there be any traffic left in the SM proper forum?
Would that matter? If no one wants to talk about SM, then it would make sense for the forum to be dead. We have boards for each game de facto and some of them aren't very active at all, but we keep them around. We should, too. It's just we should also have a romhack board imo.
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
M2K2 always struck me as predominantly sequence breaking and speed running; I never saw a need for any hacking stuff, aside from for figuring out certain details that would be useful for sequence breaking and speed running. Then SCU closed and everyone came here. Eh. In other words, I don't really think this is the site for it, but everyone came here to talk about it anyways. It's really up to the people in control to decide. The same thing sorta happened with TASes too though, so I don't think you're (ING-X) in a good position to argue. :P
<font size="1">On a side note, I take a bit of offense that redoing rooms in SMILE is considered ROM hacking. It's like calling a person's first play through a game speed running. :/</font>
TASes are as much speed runs as a person who uses a cheat code is a hacker. Technically does not mean truthfully.
Yeah, but hacks don't really have to do with sequence breaking/speedrunning the actual game. Even if TASing isn't really speedrunning, hacking should be put in a different forum than tricks for the actual game.
or certainly the only one to get this level of attention. we don't have long to go now for the forum to be upgraded so at that point we can have nested subforums and it won't matter anymore.
yeah actually after i wrote that i went to phpbb.com and saw that they are on rc7 (normally you don't get more than about 4 rc's) and they are still putting tons of new code in.
Of course this makes me wonder. What will we do when MZM and MF hacks start popping up all ove rthe place months from now?
What makes you think that'll happen? Super seems to be the only Metroid that has ever gotten any hack attention.
Well, at least not until the editor for MZM and MF gets completed in months. Then I would expect a lot of hardcore MZM and MF people to switch gears and start hacking apart those two games.
