they're nintendo's complete and total bitch
Yeah lol

Then Reggie put out an official statement about how Iwata didn't apologize.

I didn't hear about that. I hope they take -something- away from all the backlash :/
Nintendo has traditionally played by their own rules.  Over a year ago Bloomberg Business published an article about the company talking about how they do their own thing.  Their analysts listed a number of opportunities for revenue that Nintendo has been resistant to, including the mobile market, theme parks, more merchandising licenses, etc and Nintendo has pretty much jumped on all of those things now.  It may be that they DO know what we want, but their decisions are now based upon maximum profits above all else.  Maybe shit like MP:FF is supposed to be more profitable than making an awesome metroid game.  It seems like it would be more appealing to younger, casual gamers with ADD vs. people like us, and we're just outnumbered.  Factor in costs of development, too.  Maybe making us happy is at odds with the bottom line.
What I've seen of MP:FF looked so bland and void of character, I don't see how it could do much in terms of sales and profit. Sure it's unlikely to not turn a profit, but what's it going to do to the Metroid brand name?
It might be true that NX is going to  be console and handheld in one. Kinda looks like Nintendo is also about to stop supporting the 3DS, only making cheap and quick games to show off so people don't notice.

eh 3ds had a good life

one more pokemon game and i'll be very, very happy with that system
they got the producer to say some good things about the game lol

let's see how this goes
huh, sounds like they're actually going to attempt to address criticism on the stream? They said something like "we know there's been a lot of talk online about this game, so we thought this would be a good time to have Kensuke Tanabe talk about his vision for the game"
And then the players won't shut up while Tanabe is talking so we can't hear anything, of course
lol yeah

It's obvious the guy has a very different perspective on the franchise though

But man, screw that mission based gameplay. The game looks tedious.

If only it'd be the usual exploration kinda deal... even witht he lame graphics I'd love to play that. :/
They didn't say very much. Might be worth pointing out the producer claimed to have many ideas for the Prime series, and that MP:FF is just one of them.

I bet none of them are anything Metroid lol
And yet a proper Prime game would be so awesome to play on 3DS...
omg lol. did you catch that "damn" on the stream a minute ago?
The music dropped for like a second during one of the Mario music interludes and someone said "damn". Then it went back up and continued like nothing happened. Twitch chat started spamming "damn".

The mission-based gameplay might not be so awful. For example, Zelda Four Swords Adventures was a similar departure from traditional Zelda exploration for individual stages, and that game was pretty fun. Or I thought so anyway.

You know, this game is pretty much Metroid Four Swords.
Four Swords at least had a unique concept and a Zelda aesthetic. Federation Force looks and plays like a generic sci-fi coop shooter.

Four Swords stage maps are several times larger than the small arenas we've seen in MP:FF

but what's it going to do to the Metroid brand name?

lol nothing.

If people still give shit about Metroid after Other M then the brand is fucking invincible.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
If FF looked like a decent game that would be one thing, but it looks so bland and soulless. I'm over it being labeled Metroid, I just don't like it because it looks like shit in and of itself.

i meant that like, imaginme a kid who's never played Metroid plays FF. You think they'll feel like playing more Metroid beyond the scopes of FF?
At least to me it doesn't look like much of a game that would increase the audiences attention towards Metroid games.

Unfortunately even if the answer to that is "yes", they'll think "more Metroid" is something completely different from what it actually is. It seems like a really bad idea to me to try to get more people interested in the franchise by.. releasing a game that doesn't play anything like the rest of the franchise.

You could say the same after Other M. If Metroid dies off as a franchise this game isn't the one that did it. I mean if Other M is what introduced me to Metroid I wouldn't want anything like that ever again. And if that's what passes for a mainline Metroid then whatever give me spin offs cause those might actually be fun.

It's not like Metroid's ever been a huge money maker for Nintendo, trying and failing to grab a new audience or rebrand or whatever they're doing not going to hurt them much.
