Use \ before commas in usernames
While working on a 10% run to prepare for my upcoming 1% run, I noticed that charged shots at point blank range have a different graphic and seem to inflict more damage.

Is this known? If not, can it be confirmed? If so, is it useful?

Yep it's known ... discovered by Sess or Nate I believe, they noticed that a point blank charged shot to the boss doors would get them in one shot, but not from far away.

Yes, Sesshoumaru uses this fact to it's fullest in his in-progress 1% run. The 'swoosh' that comes out of your gun upon firing a full charge counts for a hit. So to do full damage to stuff, you gotta make sure the swoosh connects.
I will have to do that now for the speed run I'm trying. 12 minutes at first tro save point.

4 energy tanks, 40 missiles, 10 powerbombs. Think of it as a training-wheels version of the 1% run. Nightmare was still bloody hard.

But now I'm off in 1% land, not shooting for time, just survival. Next up: Serris.

When Fusion Samus fires a charged shot as well as the shot itself there's an additional curved blast downward.

Nightmare should be a breeze with 40 missiles (it takes less than that to kill him I believe). Myself is down to losing 2 tanks against him. Usually 4 though ;)

good picture Skynes. I wonder if it should be considered a bug. On one hand they had to put code there to make it do damage.
On the other hand. Maybe it was easier codewise to make that swoop a bullet. who knows Rolling Eyes

I'm really dreading this fight on 1%... once he starts getting fast in the third part of the fight, is there any way to reliably avoid him?

1% Update: Barrier-Core defeated. Next up: Whatever you fight in ARC. I forget.

are you sure? by making it a somewhat stationary bullet you have to wory about a lot less to make it have the right color. And you don't have to make it a separate animation instead its a bullet object. I'm not so sure if it is harder I've got quite some experience aswell.

It might just depend on your style of programming. No one programs the same.  They way I see it, you have the bullet sprite moving right, and the flare sprite near your gun.  You would have the flare sprite there in either case (bullet or no bullet).  Making it a bullet, however, requires you to add extra code for the damage at close range, checking the range, making sure the bullet passes through the enemy if the flare kills it, etc.

Making it the correct color would only require just a simple line or two of code too.  Something about when you beam changes, don't just change the beam, but change the flare too.

yes, it is. there was some contention about this on this forum in the past, but i've pretty much settled it in my run this time. i still need to confirm if hitting him with a diagonal shot (i.e. 45°) causes more damage than shooting straight up through him, which is decidedly easier because you shouldn't hit the tail unless your aim is crap.

but yeah, short answer: yes.

100%. Watched DaveB's run segment by segment and tried to duplicate it. Didn't go very smoothly.

Sorry for posting it in the wrong place. I'll come back with a new time instead :)
