It's finally been done
Expect a youtube video in the near future of the run
I also plan on rewatching the run carefully and write up some commentary about the run, potential time saves, etc.

Congrats again.
Absolutely incredible.

Your passion for this game, hell, this category, is something everybody should look up to. Watching you die again and again to stupid things, only to brush yourself off and say "next one will be it" is something to model yourself after.

Huge congrats again, friend. This run not only means a lot to you, but me as well, as a milestone of our favorite category. I hope to see this time go lower.
This run was crispy
I knew you could do it, you madman. The one person dedicated enough to this category to take it from an unviable for speedrun definition to a freaking sub 2 IGT...incredible.
loving low%
This is huge
also; what Justin said :)
There was much debate a decade ago amongst the oldschoolers over whether this would ever be achieved. The consensus was that it wouldn't, so well done.
What was the debate about? Whether SS was speedrun-viable, or whether sub-2 was possible?
just whether we'd ever see a speedrun of anything lower than 22%.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Uh, yeah so I've been out of the loop for a while on Prime Low% runs but, uh, what?

I remember watching Paraxade complete a 21% back in the day, but I didn't realize anyone was really giving it ago speed run wise because it was a huge pain. That's pretty cool, nice job.
It wasn't really considered speedrun-viable until 2015 or so, but now there are 6 people who have done it single-segment. The best segmented time is 1:45 also by M177 but it was unrecorded. He's also the only person to have completed Hard 21% SS.

For reference
Personally I'd say it became speedrun viable at the time of this quote (august 2014):
Quote:
4:54 Metroid177: low% is my fav category of all time
4:54 Metroid177: and i'm quite sick of people saying
4:54 Metroid177: "you can't run low%"
One shall stand, one shall ball.

Holy wow at that jump between 12 and 11. That's some progress right there.
Right now I'd say we're in the transition period where speedrunning 21% might be getting more popular than doing it just for completion. Some of the times on that list are really slow not because the runners are bad, but because they accepted the first successful segment every time because they cared more about completing it at all than going fast.

Agreed. This is how I went about it.

mm, this has happened more than once on more than one of the prime games. everyone thought treb was nuts back in the day for speedrunning 22%, and people thought the same when I decided to tackle prime 2.

(I was a bit fucked up in 2016, which is probably why I missed a lot of the progression of this).
Here's the video!
Thanks for all the kind words
I run this here hotel of an evening
Congrats! Can't wait to watch it
