Next time, skip Long Beam. That gives you 7% more to play with... I'd go with 3 super missiles, screw attack, hi-jump, and the other 2 unknowns. However, most people seem to prefer Speed Booster over hi-jump.
I got 3 energy tanks, 2 super missiles and screw attack. Since I mastered IBJ and Wall jumping I dont need the high jump. Speed booster is only useful for the two escapes but if you're good enough you can still get out with a while to spare.

I gaot the same as skynes, but got high jump instead of SA, I suck at the Tourian escape.

Ah, the escape. And By the way, I only took speed boost because I was doing a speed run. High jump is probably only useful in a hard 15% run on Tourian escape (allows for a few more screw ups while bomb jumping). Actually, now that I think about it, if you can't wall jump effectively, what makes you think you're gonna do the IBJ within the time limit? I have a great route through the first shaft, up the left wall, where you can just scramble up the first few blocks, wall jump off a couple of blocks, wall jump up the left wall, land on a block, wall jump off the block in the middle and grab onto the frickin' left road block, wall jump up some more, I think one more road block, wall jump some more and you're there, then you can get out with 15 second to IBJ over the speed blocks.

Long Beam is good if you prefer sniping enemies to dodging them.  On normal, nigh jump is not needed on tourian escape, i once escaped w/ 1:10 left, SA is good for the mother ship escape, though.  I always take 3 e-tanks, 2 supers, and the long beam, because im just so fond of blasting helpless enemies at range. Well, the ice beam does pretty well in helping you not get hit. Besides, if you suck at dodging things, how could you have defeated any bosses? You'd definitely need the practice, and that's what the regular enemies are there for.

That implies that on hard, it is needed. Well, on normal, you get 2 minutes, on hard, you get 1 minute. This means if you leave with over one minute on the clock on normal, than you'll definitely get out in time on hard. The first shaft only takes me 20 seconds, the next Gamma shaped shaft takes me 25 seconds, and I get out with, like, 7.5 seconds. I kept messing up the infinite bomb jump, too.

Now that I'm doing speed runs, I seem to be screwing up the IBJ more and more frequently, only succesfully going three bombs high once every ten tries. I seem to have lost my rhythm.
Oops.  I didnt know we were talking hard mode specifically. Sorry.  I... still havent done a hard 15%, so i have no opinion yet..  :?

Edit #1:  I used the wussy method to beat ridley on 15%, and died about 10+ times on MB, more then 20 on MR beta version  Evil or Very Mad , so im obviously terrible at dodging, which is why i like the long beam soooo much!  Twisted Evil

No problem about the sig, it was more of an experiment than any thing else. and as for the escape it's not the wall jumping that I have the problem on, it's more the screwing up and missing the block entirely and falling all the way down the shaft again that I some how manage to pull off repeatedly.
Ok i have a problem, i had to restart today after accdentally getting a missile tank in Ridley. Could some one tell me how to avoid it? Heres my cheep rendition of how the room looks:

I'm pretty sure i know the one you're talking about. Go back up and to the right, you can't get past it that way, theres another path you need to find but it's been awhile so i'm a bit fuzzy. You can find it though.
From the elevator, go right instead of left, then fire a missile at the cieling to open a hole in it. bomb jump up, and there you go.

I did the map in Notepad using a fixed width font, then copied it here and enclosed it into code tags. They make the text inside them become a fixed width font and don't trim any extra spacing used inside them. Hope this was a clear enough explanation. ^_^

You don't have to go that direction at all. When you very first enter Ridley, go into the right door, then shoot a missile at the second block on the cieling. Then shoot a normal beam into the hole, and freeze one of the little bees from the tube and hop up there. This allows you to skip like 80% of Ridley.
