Yeah, there's a segment in the Mother Ship that requires 3 Missiles. In hard, an expansion only gives you 2. Have 4 Missiles/Screw Attack gives you an alternate, faster route through the Mother Ship. Here's the link AJ's amazing diagram: http://www.metroid2002.com/ajbolt89/3-4missiles.PNG

I would have embedded it but it's way too big. Sparing some dial-up people here ;)

Like JaggerG said, please read before asking further.

You know, I just realized something. I think he was trying to go through with SA, not taking another E-tank. He said he realized that you need one of those three. I apologize, but it's a bit late to take it back.

"Sorry, but you may not delete posts that have been replied to."

I was late by meer seconds. Maybe a mod or someone can help out here?
I know and knew you needed the SA or 1M/1SM or 2M. What I'm trying to say is going through the game with only TWO missiles is utterly impossible on hard. Even if we didn't need the above 3 times, you still wouldn't be able to do it metihnks.

And yeah, I wondered why you were CAPSing at me =(

Heh, yeah, sorry about that. Anyways, I can't even do 9% normal because of freaking MR. I hate to imagine it with only 4 missiles, and it would be twice as bad with only 2! Shocked

Ready and willing.
Haha, lol, and you got a page break in the wrong spot, too.

I can't believe I didn't think to edit it...hold on then...there.
Whoo! Mother Brain is quite the beast. I've developed a strategy... now I just need flawless execution.

Presenting: The Professor Scissors Almost Foolproof Mother Brain Ten Percent Strategy!
First Half:
1) Stand on the platform closer to the wall.
2) Wait for the lower Rinka to fire. Freeze it by crouching, then aiming down/right.
3) Keep the Rinka frozen for the duration of the fight, freezing new ones every time it dies.
4) Meanwhile, use the top Rinka to recover health and missiles. If at full health, attack MB.
5) Maintain until shield falls.
Second Half:
1-3) Same as First Half, except that the Rinkas from the bottom cannon must be timed to that, when frozen, they act as an 'extension' of the platform, closing the gap between it and the far wall.
4) Fire the first two missiles to bring MB close to pissed-off-ness.
5) Wait until health is 80 or higher. Preferably 99.
6) Freeze both Rinkas. Fire a third missile at the Brain.
7) Take the hit from MB's eye ray. Lose 80 health.
8) Repeat steps 4-7 until MB dies.

Pros:
-Relatively easy to execute.
-Few chances to fall into the lava, which triggers MB's eye ray as soon as you get back up, and usually ends in a messy death.

Cons:
-Takes flickerbating forever.
-There is a brief period after step 7 where you are extremely vulnerable.
-Requires the Varia Suit to survive the eye ray.

I've tried jumping instead of taking the hit, but I've found it about triples your chance of getting smacked by a turret or Rinka and falling towards certain doom.

I've gotten pretty far... this 10% run WILL be mine!
But that's enough for tonight. Professor out. To sleeeeeep.
EDIT: Mother Brain was defeated! Then, I realized... I still have to climb The Shaft. Looks like I have to defeat MB at least one more time...
I'm at the part right after you get your suit back... it seems like you need four missiles to beat this part. There's the missile-block to get into the underwater area... then two missiles to get past the first screw attack barrier... then one more missile to get past the second screw attack barrier! Am I missing something?
Go back to the save point.

Spend 30 tries developing a strategy for MR, only to defeat him with perfect health and die helplessly at the hands of those last two black pirates.  Evil or Very Mad

I don't know how many times that happened until I heard about the cheesing method.

As for the mother brain fight, I prefer to time the last missile shot so that i can avoid the turrets and jump over the beam to the forward platform, then jump back afterward and get back to business. Saves loads of time from not having to restock health.
