First let me say I have no clue how I got this but it is completely legit, something somehow glitched, and gave me an extra % point for something. I have 101 pickups out of 100 and it says 101% on the file select screen.

My items are all at their normal numbers 255 missiles 11 ship missiles 14? etanks (all the way across the life bar), so something gave me an extra percent.

This is on my first hypermode run ever (already beat normal and veteran once each, same file), and I still haven't gone to phaaze so ill post my wii code and send the snapshot to whoever wants it when I'm done (I don't have an sd card or a digital camera) and as I just found out two seconds ago you cant take pictures on the map screen where it shows the pickups count.

I did not use any speedrunning glitch things, nothing screwed up while I was playing, no power surges. In fact I only discovered this after getting 100% from the hyper grapple then realizing I forgot the missile expansion in "concourse transfer"(<something like that) in west skytown (semi tall room, screw attack walls, spiderball needed for expansion)

I did do some things in an order some might consider wierd, all legit, but weird, i'll try to make a list of what I remember, because I am super curious to find out what the heck made this happen.

I got a lot of items immediately after or shortly after they became availiable as its my first hypermode run and I was paranoid.

I had every real scan/ save the troopers tokens (though not the airlock voucher)

I got the jungle bryyo second room etank before rundas.

I forgot (forgot it for a long time on my vet run too) the etank in the bottom of the shaft like room with wasp hives right before the ship missile dock in bryyo until after I got the screw attack I beleive.

I did the giant statue head moving "subquest" in bryyo immediately after getting ship grapple, but didn't do the generator until I went back to collect everything left.

I got the ice bryyo etank immediately after getting spiderball as well as the 2 fans ecell in the room that had the security drone on skytown.

Now heres where I THINK something happened. I went throught the demo troopers mission then once getting the landing point I left and collected all the items I hadn't gotten (did not fight omega ridley)

Also I NEVER went to the VALHALLA until I had EVERYTHING ELSE (except 3 on the pirate homeworld and of course the concourse transfer or whatever that room is called) and once there I completed the whole thing.

After getting everything (except the concourse transfer missile) my item count read 99% so I'm thinking whatever happened happened before ridley.

I beat omega ridley (yay), grabbed the hyper grapple, it gave me the 100% ending message and I was happy. I did the leviathan immediately after this (already had the code). This is when I realized I hadn't gotten the one (you know where) so (now giddy with the realization and excitement that I may get 101%) I raced to the place, sure enough it was there, boom 101/100. And yes I only had 250 missiles before getting this.

Last thing I think may have affected something. On this run I got the Armored Pirate scan, which if you don't know is only available once the first time you get to the concourse (the real one with the 2nd bomb part in it), it is the 3rd I beleive pirate that attacks you, he has no entry anywhere in your scan data but gives a red token anyway (btw this particular thing was found by someone else, I just wanted it for completion's sake) and allows you to have an extra red token after buying everything.

I think maybe something happened because I scanned him AFTER I already had all of the other scans.

I absolutely would love to find out how the heck I did this and I will be starting a new game (likely on another file (and on veteran, hyper is too much hypering lol), but ill try to recreate my same path as close as I can .

I would like to be credited for being the first to do this (although I don't mind someone else taking credit for figuring out how to)

But dang I want to find out how this happened so bad, if anyone has anymore questions about the path I took ill answer them to the best of my memory.

Ill send the endgame screenshot to anyone who wants it, my Wii code is

6117-2678-4350-6132

Ill try to get an sd card from my brother and put up the save file as soon as possible.
Thread title:
Wow, that is interesting. So you had the normal amount of everything? I'd think you somehow got a missile expansion twice, but you say you had 250 before getting the last one. I don't think anyone's ever gotten an energy tank or power bomb/ship missile twice, so I don't know if it would give you 15 tanks/12 ship missiles if you did... if not that might be what happened. But my guess is you somehow got one of the normal upgrades twice; anything weird happen when you collected any items?
I've looked through the entire map replaying the game in my mind best as I remembered how I did it, other than the weird path I took which I explained above there are only two things I could think of which may have glitched in some way.

In the valhalla when the ship missile flows through the pipe I boosted to catch up to it as quick as I could and for a second I thought I had caught up to it, but thinking back I remember having 90 pickups going to the valhalla, got 6 in the vahalla (hadnt gone there before), then 3 on the pirate homeworld and the 100% was from ridley's hyper grapple. Later of course I realized I forgot the concourse transfer expansion which was the 101.

The second (this is what I beleive happened), when you go throught the gearworks for the second time a ship comes and blows it up revealing the expansion, but when I went through I made the jump literally immediately after the gear blew, got the expansion and left out the far door without waiting/fighting the ship.

I think somehow the expansion has a trigger that makes sure its there after the gear is destroyed and I happened to get it before that trigger went off so in effect the expansion respawned after I got it and I happened to get it again later without really noticing.

But then theres the fact that I had 250 missiles, which I could only explain by that each expansion has its own variable for missile count and getting the same one twice didnt have any affect on it, but still gave a count to pickups.

I'm definitely playing through again later today (watching my nephews right now) on a quick run through normal or veteran, just to try it out.

Echoes gives you 10 missiles when you get the missile launcher twice, so that's probably not the case.
If it's not that then I have no clue how it happened, retro said they built this game up from scratch for the most part so its possible the programming is different.

I'm gonna try it anyway later, but if its not that then it has to be some kind of glitch that I have no idea how to reproduce.

Edit:

And if its not a missile expansion the only other thing it could have been was either the moving ship missile, which as I said I doubt it. Or possibly the energy tank that I "thought" I forgot. Possibly I did get it but then got it again somehow (I went back to get it right before the spire / helios), but on that one I have absolutely no clue how it would have glitched, when I got it I had to bomb the hole so if something reset, it reset the hole as well.
Wow, 101%? Good luck trying to figure out what you did.  ;-)
Thanks, its driving me mad, im doing another playthrough right now to try all these possible reasons I`ve thought of.

I welcome any suggestions and ill try them out (but no secret words or bsj, didnt use anything like that on the run), so if anyone thinks of a possibility i`d love to hear it.

ps
Another thing to add to my list of somewhat weird pathing was that I screw attacked the spider ball. (bored, did it for fun).
I cant really see how that would glitch anything, but if it did it explains the missile numbers, and its one of the things ill try to recreate on this run.
i'm sitting at 99% on veteran, only things left are to hunt down 2 red phazoids, keep the 12 guys alive, then of course beat ridly, and continue to the end....

is there anything anyone wants me to explore/try?
If there is any real manipulatable trigger to get this to work it would likely be while collecting items not after. If anything look at your map and try to see if by some chance you forgot something. Thats pretty much how I realized this had happened.

On another similar note I started my re-creation attempt file. Currently saved in my beat up ship after ghor. Ill finish it tomorrow probably.

So far no extra point. (can someone confirm for me that getting the ped suit/ hyper beam are supposed to give 1%?)
Thanks, just needed to make sure my item count was perfectly accurate.

Edit: new info

Well sadly Paraxade was right about the missiles so it seems. Gearworks was a bust, did it perfectly more than one time but no extra percent.

My only other ideas are nearly outrunning the valhalla ship missile (which I doubt is it)

Or, screw attacking into the spiderball upgrade (I did it last run), but my only reasoning for this is that I was in the spiderball room for a while messing around with screw attacks before I hit it, my thinking is that the room had enough time to fully load the cutscene that triggers immediately once its grabbed. Making the cutscene trigger so suddenly (which it did do last time in fact it actually suprised me how fast it went), that somehow the game reads getting it twice once actually getting it and again when the cutscene triggers.

I know its kind of farfetched but I am seriously running out of ideas here, still open to suggestions.
i tried out running the valhalla ship missle as well, no go
I know I didn't get an "item gotten" message while chasing it last time but the thought behind it was that it possibly may have registered anyway from being touched in the tubes.

I never really thought it was that one anyway it was just near the end of my list of possible reasons and I'm getting desperate for an explanation.

STILL UP FOR SUGGESTIONS!

Right now most of my money is in the screwing the spiderball pot since my gearworks theory blew up in my face, and that ones pretty out there already.

Update: Well I am at the spider ball and am just about convinced that this is the answer, ive tried to duplicate what happened the last time but havent been able to, I'm pretty sure I need to screw attack in a way that causes it to pull out as it hits the statue/spider ball in the instantaneous white flash way (I distinctly remember this happening), i'll try a few more times if I can't get it ill copy the file to another slot so I can try again if I don't find another way.

If anyone else who is currently on a playthrough could please try to do this screw attack at least once and if it works tell me I would be insanely appreciative.

Another update: I finished the run, no luck duplicating what happened, I am now about 95% sure it had to do with getting the spiderball ill do more testing on it later
I've posted this before on GameFAQs, but I think it'd get more attention here.

I think I know how he did it.

My theory is as follows: When you screw attack and the view goes to third person, for a split second upon activation of the attack both the Space-jumping Samus and the Screw-attacking Samus exist at the same time, in the same place. Both of them have an item pick up trigger, thus, he could have picked up the weapon twice at once if he did it in this exact spot. This explains how it's almost impossible to duplicate; the timing has to be precise.

HOWEVER.

If someone can figure out the exact timing, we can get way over 101% - I don't have the game, so I can't test this theory, but if someone can I'd appreciate it greatly.

~Trexxen
SA instant unmorph is done pretty much the same way as morph ball instant unmorph - just do it somewhere where something will get between Samus and the camera so the camera doesn't have enough space to do the unmorph animation. So probably SA around there from a spot so the Chozo statue gets in the way.
Cook of the Sea
You probably already know this, but it's fair to point out that so long as this doesn't change the game in any measurable way, it won't be factored into speedruns, at least not on SDA.  100% and 101% Echoes runs are the same category.
I don't mind speedruns not counting it, its the simple fact that its been discovered that I am happy about (even though I can't seem to duplicate it).

I responded to trexxen on the gamefaqs board.

Paraxade, the problem is I know from where i jumped in the first run (generally) if the statue faces south, I was south east of it somewhere along the wall (though not necessarily pressed against it. The only thing I can think of that might have gotten in the way is perhaps the part of the gear that hangs down a little bit.
Still trying, but unless the spiderball isn't how this is done and I missed whatever caused it this is way too precise of an occurence to be done repeatably unfortunately, that is unless someone else figures out some amazing easy way to do it but so far its looking very very difficult to replicate..

.... something similar just happened to me.

I was completing my 22% hyper game and everything was fine and dandy, execpt it said 23% when I beat the game!!! I did skip hazard and didn't any items so,  I don't know what happened.
reka, try getting all the other items on the file and see if you get 101%. :D (assuming you didn't save at the end)

Also remember you can see your % on the pause screen.
I'm not familiar with the items normally recieved in a 22% run but, count your weapons to make sure they are what they should be. If all of them are normal count, my spiderball theory, or possibly some other upgrade item could be the cause (lol did you screw attack anything by chance?).

Its great that this happened to someone on a 22% run, now maybe we can get this narrowed down to THE item.

K found something. Crash site missile was missing. Either I got it by accident or the game auto gave it to me when I did bryyo map early or something. I had 10 when I was on phaaze, so I thought it meant 5 from launcher and 5 from seekers, like in echoes.

Righf, sorry for the commotion.

So there's 50 missile expansions this time, that's the most in the prime series then, huh? tied with zm
