And if anyone from bisqwit reads this, don't consider me competition, unless it makes you work harder or something.

You know, I've been reminding Megafrost weekly to work on his run (with no success), but ever since we caught wind that you started on this we've been using it to get him to work on it and boy has it been successful! :) (IE, yes, we've been using it to work hard at it, hehehe)

And you're doing it multi-segmented more or less at the moment, so you really don't have to worry about us seeing it as competition since we simply don't have the mechanisms in place to publish such a run. So... double yay?

Also, I don't quite get what's more entertaining about a 2 more round battle, although maybe in my TAS-minded watching I missed something? (By TAS-minded, I mean I would have looked specifically for ridiculous speed ala Megafrost, or funny impossible-for-human-to-do glitches.) I'm not saying y'all are wrong... I'm just honestly confused about the statement.

Combination 0% / no-damage run.

Right. I got that from earlier posts.

I suppose, then, that what I'm missing is that I only see health as another limited resource to manage and use and prefer to see health sacrificed for speed?

(Although I suppose it's possible Megafrost could have gotten the X-Core into its sweet-spot without taking that hit... maybe... hmmm...)

Nah, that's not the point. Neither of us take damage during the fight, so what makes mine more entertaining? To be honest, I can't say, it's just an opinion after all. It could simply be because it's mine, because I was there when it was made, which took a hell of a lot more time than it seems when you watch it. It could also be that I very barely dodge all of his attacks (waiting/holding jump/holding right or left one frame less than I do with every one of his attacks would result in me getting hit). It could be how I keep shooting him while he rolls under me. I honestly don't know, but I find my fight more entertaining than his. *shrug*
Cook of the Sea
Well take the tas of Aria, and then take my personal favorite part of Dragondarch's latest Aria run, the Julius fight.  The tas Aria fight has a lot of those little "perfect timing" bits and such, but I far prefer the ddarch version of the fight since it feels so much more like an actual fight.  However, there's not two tas versions of it anyway, and it's not a "monster" fight like Arachnus so much as a "duel" fight.  I analyze why the ddarch one is more entertaining to me, and when analyzing the tas, it's the movement parts of the run that I like the most.  Vertical shafts are always a favorite of mine in tas because of the sheer opposition to the programmed gravity, and things like quick, easy dispatching of enemies along the way.  I've never found boss fights to be the best parts of tases, with the exception of some of Eka's stuff in the unfinished ZM run.  Truth be told, DF, I haven't watched any of this run yet (I like to wait until there's more of it), but that's my uninformed two cents.
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
Yeah i know all that all i said was he's got compition and it's further.
but then success is a long hard buisniss+it made comments like
"i like it more when people take the mik out of stuff" so so true
btw i trust the schedule is still in order

EDIT:it's sunday ~drum roll~
And what you've been waiting for: segment 3! Including the very annoying hellspawn known as Zazabi.

DivX version for you video watchers

vbm version for you ... other video watchers >_>

I also edited the first post to include links to all the segments released so far.
I like Big Butts and I can not lie
that sa-x chase was awsome
awsome enough for it's own segment
i didn't know you could jump it in human form
WoWoW O_o_O !
I was all like that :

"Wow, he doesn't take damage, it's impressive (Haha btw you chose to stand on the left of the security unit, whereas Megafrost stood on the right of it). Lol the wall jump after he got the bomb is quite entertaining! Man, that's good. Too bad the Zazabi fight is not 'luck-manipulated' enough."

... Until the Core-X fight; and then awesomeness strikes.
I mean OMG you hit that Core-X twice TWICE! That is what I call "mind-boggling"! PLUS the SA-X escape, I was about to faint I think...
Good, good game, Dragonfangs! Don't stop that run please, I gladly hope you will continue it.

>_< I sat for two days trying to get it to do what it did, Zazabi alone took more time than it took to make either of the two other segments. I don't think it's possible for it jump less, I certainly hope not.

And yeah, I love the double-double-core-x shot too :P.
Megafrost says you made Zazabi jump the minimum number of times. No worries there. :)

I haven't watched it yet myself, but I see you found a trick that Megafrost missed. Cookie for you! :)
Something I wanted to ask about the 4th segment.
Are you moving faster in morphball when in water? it would be important for the dead Serris' room, but it was only something that appeared to be faster. Just a suggestion.

It's sunday, it's 1PM GMT, time for Segment 4!

Divx video

vbm movie file

I managed to screw up slightly, it was easily fixed though. But the Divx video hasn't been updated with this minor thing. It's just a missile refill and I don't lose any time at all, but still. nate should be making a new video whenever he finds the time.

EDIT: divx video is now up to date
Yay, another segment! I'm really loving this run. <3
Hmm... Great, but why is, in the last room with enemies, the last X turning around the golden thingie? I think it was possible to make it faster.
Otherwise, Serris fight rocked. Again, good game, Dragonfangs!
it needs to make the golden enemy for you to kill so the door opens. no known way to do it any faster afaik.
Yeah I know it, but the X was somehow... slow. I'm just pretty sure some luck manipulating could make that X go faster. But well, it's not a problem anyway.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..........

Time for my first official complaint about the run. It's nothing stylistic or anything. I just noticed that you apparently don't have lag reduction turned on. :(

I'm sure plenty of y'all are familiar with the "VBA sometimes lags when GBA doesn't" bug that's been in VBA since... forever? I mean, it's right here in the jumpy Serris fight. Nitsuja, the guy who modded the version of VBA we use now, found out that there is a prefetch mode on the GBA that wasn't being properly emulated (or turned on?) in VBA and that was causing the lag. (Or at least that's what my patchy memory tells me.)

I have VBA-Rerecording-9 and I can turn this fix on by going to Options->Emulator->GBA Lag Reduction.

I noticed (and care) because the Serris fight is so much cooler when the stupid emulator isn't lagging. Oh well. Otherwise, it looked good. :)
There's that double-double Core-X shot again  Shocked  Very nice, keep it going :)

EDIT: Forgot something.. just out of curiosity, can anyone tell me a version number of vba-rr that'll play the videos correctly? 14 screws up on the 2nd and 4th segments.. would keep the divx ones but low on disk space ><
VBA-Rerecording-9?
I 'm not sure what you mean with that 9 but I have "version 1.7.2 rerecording v17.1". Plus, I just checked and I DO have lag-reduction on.
The 9 was Nitsuja's 9th build. Looks like you've got version 17.1

Anyways, it's not on in your movie. Playing the file the option is turned off. Plus, the Serris lag is clearly there (it's not present in Megafrost's current wip.) (I also double checked that the lag is present in the AVI... it is... :-\)

I'm glad you knew about it, but I guess we'd both be disappointed that it isn't on in the movie.
It's ... odd. I didn't know about it though, it was on by deafult. But checking through the other segments, it's on in the first, but not in the rest, I don't understand why, I've never gone near those settings.
can the setting be changed while the video is playing?
I doubt it, the option is greyed out. I would probably desync anyway.
