Post preview:Frozen flower is what it was called I think. I checked the area right after having cleared the crypt. It's great! I made it to the second bonfire, but since you jump down there to a new section of the area, apparently, I'll have to start from the first bonfire next time to fully explore the first section of the zone. There's also the fog wall right at the start that I haven't checked yet...
Damn, how is it closed? :O What does it say? I don't know if SotFS forces you to collect the entry items somewhere... on the vanilla release, you just get the DLC entry items automatically when you start a file/when you patch the game.
There's doors right after you teleport that just say "closed" :|
Post preview:Man, SL1 NG+ sure sounds terrifying. I don't see myself ever attempting thar in any of these games.
Made more progress in Dark Souls II today than I had expected. List of boss clears so far (no SOTFS spoilers)
Last Giant, Pursuer, Dragonrider, Skeleton Kings, Lost Sinner, Old Dragonslayer, Royal Rat Vanguard, the one right before Earthen Peak, flexile Sentry and The Rotten
I summoned Lucatiel for the two Lord Soul bosses and had her die in both battles, even though I went with one extra phantom into each of these fights lol. They're all useless in this game, so I always wonder why I even bother :/
And I seem to have run into the first DLC section. It's still closed though, bummer. I really wanted to go and check that place out. o:
Post preview:For now forget about the tephra cave warehouse, that's optional endgame content you need to be roughly level 90 for.
Getting to the roof of the swamp fortress is indeed somewhat difficult. I think I always used guides for that part of the game. You say you got two entrances to the throne room, so you found the secret side-entrance? With that you should be able to proceed without having to fight the enemies in there. Chances are I'm mistaken, but I think you need to check the wall behind the throne to proceed to the roof.
Post preview:I've only beaten a couple of bosses so far, but I can already say that a lot of changes made in SOTFS are quite awesome.
And I've gotten really bad at this game. I'm already lv62 and still get owned at the wharf >_> Pretty much like how it was when I played the game for the first time.
Post preview:I never read any strategies online on how to deal with certain visions. As such, I'd recommend not to get hung over fixed strategies you've read on the internet. Personally, I always considered my situation and figured something out by myself on the fly.
That said, I'm pretty sure there can't be red and white text in a single vision. It's always either or, but the red text IS white text with a red outline. Using the Monado skill that protects from talent arts (white text) - Monado Shield - won't do anything in this situation. Red means it's a normal physical skill, so there's some things to consider..... for example:
Who is the target of the attack? Using Monado Speed is likely going to help if the target is only one character, and if the monster is certain not to switch it's target to another character after you've applied monado speed on the current target.
How much damage does the attack deal? If Reyn's the target, just healing him up or telling him to use that move that greatly increases his defense for a while _may_ be enough.
It's possible the attack does area of effect damage (aoe), meaning multiple characters may be hit. Visions don't really tell of you that I think, so once you know it's an aoe attack you should use the monado skill that increases everyone's defense (monado barrier).
The gist: Monado Speed is not a surefire way to survive red-labeled attacks. Monado Shield however is a surefire way of surviving white-labeled skills if the shield is still in effect when the enemy attack hits.
Post preview:Oooh, ok that explains it. Hopefully that patch won't be too long...
I've played for roughly 4-5 hours and only managed to clear the Giant Forest up until and including the Last Giant boss. The game's brutal on a fresh character, even more so when you're no longer used to it... and those enemy replacements! Some of those are especially mean haha
Post preview:Haha. Glad to hear I can just keep playing w/o having to worry about the DLC.
Here's a bummer: The game runs at a stable 60FPS, but is clearly not intended for it. Lots of animations play super fast and it just looks awkwward, and many sceneries have an artificial look to them. I'm also not sure if the durability glitch has been fixed in the direct x11 version... I've read that it has, but weapons still break super fast and I'm not sure if this is how it was on the PS3. Well, I do remember that weaponms broke fast in DkSII - but this seems even faster!
So far, enemy changes have been all over the place. It's interesting and fun so far. Here's a couple of major changes, for those interested that don't plan on playing this edition of DkS II:
- The last of the fog walls in the tutorial section is now closed off by a stone statue. The area behind that statue is filled with basilisks - The first enemy you can into in the Forest is a giant. It can easily be avoided though - Apparently the Heide Knights have been relocated to... Heide! - In the area before you meet the first Salamander gthere's a turtle enemy in front of the cave
Post preview:Got the PS3 controller working. Only downside with the software solution I found is that I require the controller to be hooked up via USB. Even with an extension cord the length is just barely enough so I can play the game on my large screen. :/ Sooner or later I'll have to get a proper adapter off of amazon. Just learned that the company from which I got a WiiU Pro Pad to PC adapter offers the same thing for the PS3, and those get the controllers to work wirelessly.
So I just played the tutorial, so far it seems that the game runs stable for me. It definitely runs much better than I expected, with a near-stable 60 FPS @1080p and highest settings. Gotta hope that the game's other areas will all run this smoothly.
Graphically the game looks better than the PS3 version, but at 1080p that's expected. The lightning effects are definitely superior though. It doesn't appear like the game will be super dark and force the player to use the torch in areas other than the gutter however.
I'll eventually make comments on the new enemy placements and other changes in spoiler tags. Can't say anything yet.
So... are the DLC portions as cryptic to reach as is the DLC part in Dark Souls? Or can I be sure to eventually stumble upon it by myself?
Post preview:I prefer my content on disc if possible. Since SOTFS was announced, I thought I might as well just wait for that. Turns out SOTFS on PS3 is just DkSII on disc with DLC codes for the DLC part... lol. Also, it seems the PS4 version has lightning that was missing in the PS3 version.
Guess I'll end up buying the direct x11 version for PC sooner or later, that should be the best option for me at this point.
Post preview:Okay I checked the gamefaqs boards to figure this out - I can indeed load my vanilla DkSII files in SOTFS! That's cool because I never purchased the DLC. Maybe I'll get this to play the DLC with my old characters...
but maybe not. Gotta see if the PS4 version is vastly superior or something
