You can say anything about the wii here.

For some reason I hear a lot of people hating on the controls and ps/xbox-fuckboys who troll to this console. WHY SO CRUEL??
The controls and games are to epic for words and the old skool games you can buy from virtural console brings nostalgic memories.
I can't remember how the sales were with the 3 consoles but I think the Wii is still the highest selling consoles. So..shit, i think wii still owns.
But that's just my opinion. =P

Well, the Wii is behind in terms of hardware, and it doesn't have any trendy multiplayer and graphics heavy FPS games to keep the casual gamers busy, so that's why it gets so much hatred. That said I think it's a great console that makes developers value innovation over graphical prowess, and VC is a godsend to retro gamers.

Servin' you realness!!
I could care less about super-state-of-the-art graphics, in fact I can hardly tell the difference.  I also couldn't care less about any multiplayer crap because I play video games to get AWAY from people, not interact with them.  The only thing that sucks about the wii is the flood of shitty games on it, and that doesn't really say anything about the console itself.  I love my wii, just wish there were more good games for it.

I'd miss my Wii if I didn't have it, but Jesus Christ, Nintendo PLEASE MAKE A PROPER GAME.

I'm sick of Wii games.

Wii 2 better rock.

I think the hardware sucks (console and controller), but the software on wii is great.

For the most part, yeah, there is a flood of pretty poor/terrible games from third party developers. But there are still some great games on the system, and why does it matter if the hardware capabilities aren't as "next gen" as the other two consoles? The Wii can still dish out awesome experiences either way. Some of my favorite games from this generation are on the Wii, and this fall it's the system I'm most looking forward to as far as the holiday lineup is concerned. (Except maybe the PC, but that's a different story)

And I don't have a problem with motion controls as long as they are done well and don't distract me much from the normal gameplay. Of course, a lot of third party developers haven't gotten them down quite right, which is where a lot of hatred for them comes from if I had to guess.

From the perspective of my six year old sister (note: this is as close to what I can remember her saying a few weeks ago): "I like the wii, because, it does the controller thing where you can, uh, point it at the screen. I also like the mario game and playing the sports."

My perspective: the Wii really lacks in hardware, and it has a much smaller library of games that appeal to me when compared to other systems. Its neat, it's cheap, it has some interesting things, but it isn't amazing. I'd still prefer to have a wii than an xbox, though.

That was one thing I was going to mention and forgot about. Having another console alongside the Wii is definitely the best way to go so that you can get the best of both worlds. If you can't afford that, just go with the one that has the most games you're interested in. If it's the Wii, great. If it's one of the other two, also great.

Now PS3 has motion controls there is no need for a Wii. Nintendo should move to PS3 and make better powered games. Metroid doesn't deserve to be on Wii. Imagine Metroid on PS3 :P

wolololo

I hope you're sarcastic, the PS3 motion controller is going to be the worst thing for that console since the eye toy for the PS2.

This would actually be cool, if it didn't use motion controls.

Think of it as an expanded market. There is still the same room for regular-input games and there is room for motion-control-games at the same time in addition, in both cases they can outperform the Wii.

motion control is an awful gimmick that will never be used in any way that isn't terrible and needs to go away forever.

I'm with tbob on this one. Video games don't need to move beyond a conventional controller or keyboard. Console developers have already added enough shoulder buttons, analog sticks, and other funky shit to make things more convenient. Motion control just makes you look like a retard swinging your arms around from aside.

Apparently the 360 wii motion gimmick will also use voice.

Should be fun to be at a party, with everyone playing some fast motion game, then just yelling out "PAUSE!" and watching them rage.

There will be always terrible games. Not that I need it but potentially there are things that can only be done with motion controls like fast 3D-spline-input. Making an interesting game with it is up to devs though, but it is certainly possible.

I said "Will never" not "Can never", there's a big difference. I'm sure there are plenty good things that could be done with motion controls provided people figure out an actually good interface, but it just won't happen. Real controllers will always be better because that's what people are comfortable with and they require no great creativity to configure in a good way. And people still fuck that up sometimes. Controllers are the last thing the industry need to improve anyway.

Why am I so amazing?
There have been some fantastic wii games but overall it's been a letdown. This false concept of 'casual gamers' is basically ruining the system.

OK yeah, looking at it from that perspective I think I'll agree with you on that for the moment. I still think motion controls are the way to go once developers get them figured out, but there are certainly a lot of other things that need to be addressed in game development before we get to that point.

And Toozin's comment comes at the perfect time, because that is probably one of the biggest issues in gaming right now. There's no problem with catering games to wider audiences, but even newer gamers should be able to tell when a game focuses a little too much on simplifying everything.

Wouldn't it be great if consoles had a motion controller that was called a mouse?

Why exactly? What do they add that a regular control scheme does not? Honest question.

I can't really see any use outside of just the novelty of having the character's arm move along side yours, but that wears off pretty fast. I'd say Prime 3 is the only game that integrated motion controls well, but that stopped being neat around the third of the billion "pull, turn, push" switch things. The motion controls were easily the worst part of the only game that did them anywhere near right. Maybe there are game that did it better and I was just put off by the terribleness of waggle.

Maybe I just don't buy into the whole "immersion" thing at all and that is the problem, but motion has never felt or seemed more satisfying than pressing a button on a controller to me.

you've got to be fucking kidding me. seriously, you've got to be fucking kidding me. compare this to this (watch in 720p ofc). and that doesn't even come close to doing re5 justice.

guess i'm more visually inclined than some other people though so graphics to me are fairly important. i really don't want to play games that look like shit when i could be playing something else on my ps3 or 360. of course, there are a few good looking games on wii but those are all 2d, and 2d games have looked good for well over a decade. so those don't really count. :P

basically the wii is a fucking piece of shit. there's no way around it: the hardware sucks, the memory is small, there's not much decent third party support anymore, and all the motion controls are totally broken. it's easy to say "but i don't care about that sort of thing" but i don't think that's true. everyone would like to have more space for their games, everyone would like games that look good, and everyone would like to have a wide selection of good games to pick from.

its controller was a neat idea and does work really well for some games -- mainly rail shooters, which are easily the best justification for owning a wii. but that's the pointer, not the motion controls. like t.bob said the motion controls are totally asinine, at least in the way that they've been used so far.

that said, i'm looking forward to ps move but again, mainly because of the pointer controls. i love rail shooters on wii but i'd love them even more if they actually looked good.

I can definitely tell which one has the higher resolution, but barely.  It's such a minor difference.  I also can't tell when I'm watching an HD channel on tv or not.

Opium, what kind of TV do you have? If you have a 1080p then you should be able to tell the difference pretty easily. It's also not just resolution, but also how detailed the textures are, how many particles and flashy effects can be going on at once, actual shadows, poly-count for the 3d models, etc.

Are you going to be able to point using the PS3's move thing? I thought it just looked at the colored balls on top, so you wouldn't actually be able to point.
