All the time I hear about people wanting a remake to RoS. I don't quite understand. Is it because the game is in black and white? Get a color hack.

There are actually elements in I and II that I sort of miss, like morph ball bombs propelling you up, and the morph ball bouncing. And what about the spider ball?

I don't know. We need more games that are made that simple, and it annoys me when people want a remake for something just because it's relatively old.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
The reason that it usually gets talked about is because it's a good game.  It may be for an old system, and it may have been in black and white (or shades of green, anyway), but the game is pretty well made.  That's why it gets a lot of love, and (most people believe) deserves a remake.

For it's time it was good, and it remains a very central part of the Metroid universe in terms of story importance. Plus, the Gameboy cartridges are not only closing in on about 20 years of life at this point, but they aren't exactly easy to find either. It would make sense for Nintendo to want to update it even if it was to get the game out simply to generate sales from it.

As far as the game itself is concerned, I'd love to see what they can do with the world of SR388 using modern technology and gameplay mechanics. It would give fans a reason to remember why Metroids are supposed to be feared, and the series seriously needs that at the moment based on what happened to them in the most recent games.

I'd like to see it remade because I was spoiled by the map systems of Fusion/ZM/SM before I played RoS, and I never completed it because of how lost I was.

I believe you can. I got a patch where I shoot through walls, works fine for me.

Isn't that called wave beam?

EDIT: Running the Metroid II DX patch, and it certainly looks a lot nicer than the original. Weirdly, I seem to have started with several items, wereas I seem to remember beginning in the standard nothing-but-power-beam fashion on the console version.

Nope, it's actually a patch that allows you to shoot any tile and it will break that tile. It's mainly used to enter secret worlds easier.

I think you start with the morph ball and 30 or something missiles, since unlike most Metroid games these days, missiles are absolutely VITAL to defeating the Metroids and finishing the game.

I want a remake because none of the current-gen Nintendo systems can play it.  DS and DS Lite only do GBA (so M1 is playable), and the Wii can't use the Game Boy Player (natively, at least).  So, the only options are a port or a remake.  Since M1 got its, M2 can have one as well.  And, just like M1, the original can be bundled into the package.

EDIT:  I would appreciate, though, if the original-as-an-unlockable had color options, specifically greyscale, GB screen, and colorized/DX.  And expanded color palette option would also be nice.

New battery, most likely.

But I'm saying, why ruin a good game with a remake? I've seen pictures of some remakes, and as well made as they are, they didn't capture the atmosphere that the original did.

By the way, I have the destroyable walls patch, too.

Why make remakes? The original gets to easy/boring/unentertaining. So to create a virtually new game with the same elements of the original combats these problems.

Also, why is unentertaining not a word?

I don't think Zero Mission captured the same atmosphere as Metroid, but it still rocked.  A remake can go either way, it kinda depends on what the game designer is really trying to do.  In ZM's case, Nintendo claims they wanted to make Metroid the way the game was meant to be, but were limited by the technology of the day.  They really did make it work.  Looking at RoS, it doesn't seem hard to believe that Nintendo could apply the same reasons for remaking it that they did for Metroid, since it's just as obviously limited by the tech.  It can be remade, and it should be remade, it just has to be done right.  If ZM is any indicator, then I believe that ninty would make a kick ass remake.

I want a remake of Metroid II to simply see another Metroid on the Nintendo DS, my favorite gaming system. In addition, I have not experienced the story of Metroid II yet either, and I would like to see it get an uplift just like Metroid 1 with Metroid Zero Mission. Hopefully, if Sakamoto is smart like with Zero Mission, he will have an original version of Metroid II in the remake's release as well.

I would rather see a sidescroller, at most a 2.5D sidescroller.

I think you both missed that one, since making ROS anything like Hunters would be a big mistake in my opinion.

Depending on how Other M ends up I could almost see an ROS remake working like that though: It would be kind of interesting to see Samus getting that physical with the larger Metroids. (And would spice up the combat a bit more than the current plug-it-full-of-missiles mechanic that the 2D games all have in common unfortunately.)

That's completely different, because you're keeping the engine and changing the arrangement. People want vice versa. Which is stupid, because M2 is fine how it is. It doesn't get boring to me, because it's a long game and it's breathtaking, despite the fact that it's *GASP* Black and white!

Seriously. You might as well remake Super Metroid. And Metroid Prime. And Fusion. Et cetera.
