you've beaten the game with? My personal record is 4, with 2 reserve tanks. looking back, I wish I didn't get my second Reserve, seeing as how I got it after Ridley, making it next to useless...

3 on me to, in a 15% run.

The lowest possible amount (without the use of x-ray climb to skip MB) is 3... or 1 if you get 2 reservs to.

Why would you need three? Because of the forced damage you take in the MB fight?

Yes, the rainbow beam or whatever Mother Brain does harms you 300 energy points. 3 etanks.

This is, of course, if you have both suits on. (varia and gravity)

Hmmm... So only the Varia Suit is needed for the MB rainbow beam to drain 3 etanks?  :|  Seems like you learn something new every day.

Yes. The Mind Laser only checks for the Varia Suit for some reason; the Gravity Suit does not influence the attack in any way. The battle is scripted in a way that the laser MUST hit you at least once to advance the game, which is why a minimum of 3 E-Tanks is mandatory.

It's also incredibly difficult to get to MB's Mind Laser with +3 E-Tanks of energy remaining, particularly because of the Rinkas/Turrets and the Pulse Beam, which comes from her hands when she has 4,500HP (25%) left.

ahh, sorry, i think i got confused because of how quickly you can beat the game using it (i.e. with such a low ending time).
