I was wondering what the intended path was for the game. I basically know it, but I'm wondering about the artifacts and charge combos, not sure where they fit in. Yeah, just wondering.

someone who's not route-stupid (not me) will have to answer this. probably could pick up a strategy guide from nintendo (if one exists) to find this out, also.

Well, they're probably like the expansions... they've got requirements to pick up, but they're not totally in the same order. So, just figure out what we use, then subtract everything that has an entry on m2k2. That works...  :D

The "intended" time to pick up artifacts and beam combos and stuff is basically any time after you have what feels like the "intended" requirements for them. For instance, the wave combo (gah! I've forgotten its name) is as soon as you have wave beam, and any time after. Ice spreader is any time after the intended power bomb pickups. As optional items there isn't a set time to go out and get them. Artifacts are a little different, though. Its intended that they can be picked up as soon as you have the requirements, too, but there's a set time for picking them up as well, which is after the phazon suit. They're still intended to be grabbable as soon as you can get them, though. For one of them, that's straight after missiles.

Yeah. As far as I know, besides the obvious items, there is no "correct" route. Just like in my game that I'm making... Of course you need the missiles to get the bombs to get the super missiles, but any of the other expansions can be picked up as soon as you find them.

My guess is that the artifacts were intended to be picked up in the order they're numbered. Truth being the first, Strength being second, Newborn being the last etc. Only odd thing there is that you can pick up Nature (#8) earlier than most others...

Something to think about: both supers and regular missiles destroy the pillar in Lava Lake, and IIRC you can't scan it to find out anything about it (like which one they might prefer using).

So, are you supposed to need supers? One way to find out might be going to Artifact Temple repeatedly and seeing when the hint for this one appears. If it's one of the initial hints that just further complicates things (as you don't need space jump or even varia to get it, although I bet varia is unintended).

I don't think you can order them by number, because elder is considered the "third" or something artifact when you need plasma for it.

I looked at the Artifact Locations Guide on GameFAQs and elder is indeed the third according to it. My guess is in an earlier build you didn't need plasma, but they changed it at the last minute. This might explain why it specifically tells you to use regular missiles on the tower... even though Control Tower is literally right after getting supers... okay maybe not, it makes no sense (just like those wave doors in the mines).

In the first month or two of release, on the GameFAQs board I remember seeing a topic where someone had said, according to one of the strategy guides you can purchase, that if you get to Control Tower quickly enough there is no ice to melt. Not sure which guide that was, but interesting nonetheless. Strategy guides are notorious for sometimes having pre-final and outdated information, so perhaps that gives strength to my guess.

Would be funny if instead of taking that out, they changed the time you have to get there to something ridiculously low, but something possible with hardcore sequence breaking.

Yes, but you also "need" the x-ray visor to know it's there in the first place. Where an item is hidden behind a wall you can see through with the x-ray visor I'd say consider x-ray one of the intended requirements for it.

I totally forgot about the hints for the artifacts. I'm not sure if those should be classed as intended requirements or not.

I believe in the Official Player's Guide they tell you to use a Super Missile on the pillar and don't even let you know that the artifact is there until after you've obtained Super.

It's kinda funny how blindly I followed the intended path before learning about sequence breaking.  It never even occurred to me to try multiple single missile shots on the Lava Lake pillar until after I saw it in one of the seqbrk videos.  I think when I first tried to get the artifact, I tried one missile and that didn't work so I moved on until I got super and then went back for it.  Little did I know that further testing would have led me to get it on the first try.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to play Prime again using the intended path since it's so much more rewarding to do things out of order.

Using a Super Missile on that pillar never actually even occured to me.  I guess I'm just a good guesser, I suppose.

I think it's the order that the little hint things pop up in. It doesn't mention the Wavebuster, Icespreader, and Flamethrower, but that's because they are completely optional.

I may be wrong, though, seeing as I don't ever keep the things turned on. They're annoying.

I played the proper route a couple of times, then put the game on my shelf and didn't play it for maybe 6 months, after learning sequence breaking however it hasn't been out of my Cube!! It's opened SOO many more possibilities for me! Much more fun to play knowing that I've bust the sequence!

I personally think that all the possible sequence breaks haven't been found yet. that there ARE more out there.

^ Ditto for me. My favorite sb is plasma before thardus, it's so much fun to vaporize space pirates where I had to charge wave and missile them before.
