Hmm, been mucking around with it for 4 or 5 hours now and haven't got the next room to load the textures yet. on the bright side i now know the entire bounding box for ruined courtyard and can pretty much aether jump back up anytime i please lol.

you should be able to jump up to the cliffs on top of the room and then jump down to the ledge next to the door; you want to be on the left side (facing the door). From that ledge morph and roll into the pile of snow like I mentioned and then from that ledge you can jump onto the door (hard though).

I have got the room to load very randomly after lots of playing around now. I am not sure where this ledge you talk about is. Here is a video of getting into the secret world. Is the ledge more to the right of where i fell?

Edit: nevermind i found the ledge further back and to the right. amazing stuff happens when you watch your own vid lol
Edit2: it seems the only time i can get the room to load enough to move on is when i load a different room from sw state and then go back to the inactive door and load.

just an update to show that i'm not slacking.  up until this point, i'd used a total of 21 dvds working on the run.  so far, i've used a total of 12 dvds for this segment, and no luck yet.  if i don't get it in the near future i may end up taking a mental break heheh.  hopefully it doesn't end up that way though.

Which part is holding you up?

Hmmmm... seems like you should just invest in a capture card. I've got good results with a $50 dazzle, and it comes with editing software that works if you have to use it (i prefer final cut pro/compressor or adobe premiere/media encoder). That's gotta be cheaper in the long run if you're burning through that many dvds.

using DVD+RWs would be even cheaper but i don't know the effects of re-recording too much onto them and the footage's quality. i had one die on me when i did my mp2wii run but that disc was pretty old and abused.

@skull64: trying to leave the mines through the front/grab warrior.  aether jumps are the end of me.

dvds are not a problem atm because i had a stack of 50, and they only cost a quarter anyway.  if i can get this part without wasting too many more, having to get more won't be an issue...  the point i was trying to make is that for some reason this part is unfortunately difficult.
Judging from your mines wallcrawls videos, I really thought aether jumping was trivial to you. I'm sad that you're stuck here but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one being killed by those stupid jumps. I felt the same way trying to test OP's backward wallcrawl, but the one you're stuck in is way way harder than the other one. Like you said once, having a break can really help.

yeah, aether jumping is definitely not trivial.  i've gotten fairly consistent if it's just a few, but doing so many in a row sucks.

i've actually been getting through the secret world a few times recently, and did some timing.  Unfortunately, it looks like i'm not nearly as fast as i hoped, so the segment has to be much more optimized than i thought.  this of course means that it'll take awhile.  in the meantime though, i uploaded a video of a pretty good wallcrawl:

Tough to gauge just how fast/slow that is. It looks slow, but compared to running through those rooms i suppose. Is this the only SW you have to go through in this segment?
Still damn impressive to me.
Seems like you're in a rush to finish this run and to keep posting segments as fast as possible. I don't know why, though.

well mostly because if i don't finish before the end of the summer (in about 3 weeks), i might not get to finish until the end of fall semester, which is no good.  historically i've found that other than summer semester, free time is pretty hard to come by.

edit: if anyone is interested with how secret worlds work (and what exactly is going on in the videos) i've update the sda wiki: http://speeddemosarchive.com/kb/Metroid_Prime/Techniques#Secret_World_Tricks .  there's still plenty of work to be done, so feel free to contribute!

the two vertical shafts after the elevator room both require spider.  in a strange twist though, looks like killing thardus might be something like < 10 seconds slower (and maybe even very slightly faster if you get a really good fight).

edit: that also considers that you can just climb up ppc after getting newborn.

Great job on the sda wiki. I think I finaly understand what aether jumping is. I think I might have to go and check it out.

So my final verdict on going wave->boost->plasma through ruined courtyard and quarantine cave is dead even with the route sparky took. I believe there is much more room for improvement this way though as my secret world skills are sub par at best. My final timing came to 4 min 45 secs while sparky's was 4 min 44 secs if anyone cares.

oh nice.  i think there's a better way to do ruined courtyard (that paraxade used in his run) even.  guess that takes off another chunk of time toward :59!

that also is probably the best way to go about plasma-after-flaahgra routes if you also get early ice.  plasma -> sun -> wave -> pb -> boost -> far phen seems pretty elegant.  i think :59 will end up using such a route.
I know it's too late to say that, but if anyone is interested by this small trick for future runs : http://www.filefront.com/12592599/PB_invisible_drone.mp4/

the wallcrawl is about 10 seconds faster than the previous one i posted (though there are still a few slow parts).  took it a little slow in elite quarters(?) after killing the phazon elite, but ore processing went about as well as it can go.  That ghetto jump at the end is terrifying.  The 80 or so seconds after making that jump were the most nerve wrecking i've ever experienced while playing this game.

p.s.: the final total is 20 dvds spent on this segment, with 21 spent on the rest of the run so far.

edit: sometimes you can shoot the vent shaft door as you jump over.  doubt it saves much time, but it looks really cool.

Awesome job on the segment. Pulling off that many Aether Jumps in a row without messing up is ridiculous.

Can't wait to see this finished. :)
