on Amazon I saw people trying to sell copies of Trilogy for hundreds of dollars? Was it really only released in limited quantities? Or was there a "more" special edition than the one I have. It seems silly to limit the production of it, especially given that MP3's friend credits can only be exchanged with copies of the same version (which would make it very hard for Trilogy owners to get friend credit stuff).

I have like, four or five spare Green Credits lying around.  Also, holy crap, hundreds of dollars?  If I ever decided that Trilogy wasn't awesome, I could make some good money.

it seems like it had to be at least a bit of work to modify the original games and create the supporting elements around them. Given that it seems scarce, I'd think they could have made a fair bit more money off it.

I can only imagine what it was like for those who missed out...

"Hey, look they're releasing a compilation of the Metroid Prime games with new controls!"
"Yeah, but it's limited edition."
"Aw, they always say that.  But it stays on the shelf as long as any other game."
"We're serious, it's limited edition."
"P'shaw, I'll just wait a while for the price to drop before I buy it..."
*Copies stop being produced*
"FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU--"

Meh, I liked the wii controls, especially the spring jump. Made activating bomb slots and and getting into certain pipes and morph ball areas simpler.

Talked about this a bit in MilesSMB's Ustream the other day.  It's better for casual controls, that much I know, but apparently it's not as good for speed running.  For reasons other than all the fixed breaks, I mean.  It all depends on how you want to play the game.  For someone like me who sucks at speed running, it's definitely worth it.

I don't do any breaks in the prime games, but the wii version has brought my time up a lot.  Being able to aim freely while running with ease, along with spring ball make flying through the game much easier.

I'm actually really glad that I got Trilogy as soon as it came out. Not only did I get MP2 and MP3 (which I didn't have), I actually like the new Wii controls. It feels more involved to me.

the trilogy is a good value for anyone who isn't into speed running since the original versions' only advantage is sequence breaking and speed running when it comes down to the basics.

i planned ahead and got a second copy of the trilogy and will sell it for a huge profit in some years.

people learned the hard way that it was really limited edition since other stuff that is limited gets to stay on production due to good sales. the trilogy didn't sell good so they saw it was good business to not make more and now we have this. people shouldn't just sit and wait for price drops always.

it works 99% of the time though.

for instance, new copies of other m is now 19.99 usd. would be a bargain if the game weren't so shitty. ;)

Seriously? Only 19.99 usd? I'm still seeing it for 50 everywhere I look.

Wow, that's the fastest I think I've ever seen a game drop in price. And why is new cheaper than used?

it's especially weird since it's a nintendo game -- nintendo games typically never drop much in price unless they become player's choice games. other m was pretty much a failure though so i guess that's why.

Strangely enough it's rated highly by reviews and players (source: metacritic). I didn't hate the game or consider it a failiure. But it has a lot of annoying quirks that almost seem to be deliberately trying to make me like it less.

Anyway- I'm just suprised that Trilogy is actually hard to come by. You'd think they'd have done a non-limited version of it without the fancy case and art book or something.

it is rated highly, but retailers don't care about review scores. it's sold relatively poorly for a metroid game or even a nintendo game period so i'm guessing that's the reason for the price drop.

This.  It's such a shame, but definitely this.  There're probably countless examples, but the most recent example (for me) I can think of would be Zak and Wiki.  Criminally overlooked among the sea of detritus released around the same time.

Servin' you realness!!
I got my trilogy disc on the date of release.  There was actually several people there waiting for the store to put the game out for sale.  I should have got two of them!
I knew that the special collectors edition would be limited, but I really didn't know that there wouldn't be a regular version available once those special ones were gone.  A sealed copy of this trilogy will probably be worth a couple hundred bucks soon.

As far as I'm aware there is no regular edition. And the limited edition is already worth three figures depending on where you look.

bad sales is the reason they didn't make more copies. i don't see why people are surprised or where is the problem outside people not buying the game. having lots of unsold stock is way worse for retailers. just look at the other m discounts. seeing a first party nintendo game drop in price like that is definitely a bad sign.

I think a major factor in low sales for the trilogy is the fact that the fans already owned these games.  Buying ports of games you already own is much less likely to happen in a bad economy.

yeah. especially with absolutely no new content. that was the most disappointing thing about the trilogy and probably what killed most sales. other companies add new stuff to their ports to entice people to double-dip but, in this case, zero effort was done to add something new like a new area, different item placement, new enemies or new music.

imagine if they completed kraid and put him in mp1 or if they made the dark ridley planned for mp2 or put in a new planet in mp3 or new charge combos or fixed at least the balance between the existing ones or added some new enemies in places too empty or with recycled enemies or even connect the 3 games in a single trip in a special mode or something with rearranged rooms and stuff.
