I'd never seen any of the speed runs do this, probably because it's slower and takes more super missiles.

However, I can't make the wall jump across the platform from the Norfair elevator to Kraid's ledge. But if I time it correctly, and remove all the super missile barriers between the elevator room and Kraid's entrance, I can run across the Elevator room and time the jump to land on the ledge without the 1-wall jump.

This is probably already very well known, but I'd never seen it written about and I thought I'd share with all the people who aspire to be but will never be as good as Red Scarlet like me.

You should just practice some more still :-)

Have you tried bomb jumping up?

I know I need practice, but I get where I'm going. I'll probably never do a speed run, but I can complete the game in about 2:20 with no speed tricks, which is plenty of time to get the best ending. I shine spark for position, but not for speed.

Aside from the shine spark with quick charge for the main street missile pack in Maridia, it's the only thing I can't do. I tried the quick charge to get the missile pack several times, but game up after 10 tries. I spine sparked from the bottom instead.

I can't bomb climb either, but I've never found it that useful. I've never practiced it much though. As far as bomb climbing to Kraid's ledge, I find it pretty easy to time the jump. If I practiced, I'm sure I could get the wall jump off the ledge, but my way works for me.

Huh.  I can only manage two things besides the usual movement: bomb jumping and that quick charge to get the Maridia missile.  It's weird seeing someone say that those are the only ones they can't do.

A couple of times I've bomb-jumped to Kraid's lair but I never was able to make it onto the platform while fighting him so that didn't work out too well for me.  There are only about four places I've ever managed to walljump: the etecoon shaft, the yellow (orange?) door in pink Brinstar with the single grapple block (I didn't have grapple yet -- or wave, so it didn't help much), the missile tube in the stairstep part of green Brinstar, and the red shaft when I somehow missed the shootable blocks in the floor and thought I had to go up instead.  That last killed my wrist for at least a day, and I never made it past the second ripper.  I think that was the only time I needed a walkthrough, which is kind of stupid.

On the other hand, the first three or four times I bombjumped all the way up the etecoons' shaft because I couldn't manage the walljump.  This, of course, was after the above red shaft attempt, so I dunno.  I also bombjumped in the beginning of the first heated room in Norfair because I again didn't find the shootable blocks below, and didn't learn about them until I watched a speedrun.  D'oh.

How funny. These are the two things I have tried the least amount of times. Maybe if I practiced...

Yeah, if you don't have the high jump boots and can't do the quick kill, you have to wall jump.

I can't quick kill Kraid either. I try, but I can't seem to get more than 2 super missiles before he rises up. I've only tried 3 times though, so maybe with some practice. I thought about using a turbo controller, but that seemed like cheating and that would take the fun out of it.

I've never had any problems with the 2-wall jump. But I'm much more of a novice at the 1-wall.

The first time I saw a speed run and the 1-wall jump, I was shocked and amazed. It was so cool. I hadn't even considered something like this before, and it was so useful. It completely eliminated any need for the grapplling beam, which I'm not too fond of. There is only one place in Red Scarlet's run where she grapples, and I assume it saves time over the space jump, but I space jumped instead.

Although if I had the grappling beam when I fought Draygon, I would have used it. But that's not how Red Scarlet's run goes, and I can't remember where most of the stuff is, so I don't deviate from what she does.

Just give it a little practice to get into Kraid's area..I mean your no speed trick run time is faster than what mine was when I didn't do any, either.  :o

My no speed run time is 2:03. But I've never tried a speed run, so that's as good as it gets for now.
