Read the wiki.
Or look at the Metroid prime 3 section.

Here's the wiki page on the Hazard Shield:
http://www.metroid2002.com/prime3/index.php/Hazard_Shield

Or you can start here:
http://www.metroid2002.com/corruption/skipping_the_hazard_shield_command_courtyard.php

If you look here you can find imbedded videos and descriptions that are more recent than the ones I wrote on the wiki page, but they are on five different pages. Hopefully between the both of them you can get enough of an understanding on what to do.

And luckily for all of us, the tricks involved aren't the hardest things in the world to pull off, but just make sure to pay attention to the Skyway Access part more than the others. It's difficult if you don't know what you're doing, so it's a good idea to follow the trick precisely to get through it.

It seems like Nintendo and Retro failed to stop us from Sequence Breaking.

Well, in a way they did because we haven't found too many major Sequence Breaks. Hazard Shield, the Valhalla Energy Cell Skip, and Late Grapple Swing are the only ones we have so far that I can think of. From what we can tell, either most of the other items are used way too much to try and skip them, or else they would require extensive use of Secret Worlds to have any chance of bypassing them.

It doesn't hurt that not everything is unlocked from the beginning like Prime or even Echoes had. We don't even get to see the Pirate Homeworld on the map until we defeat Helios on Elysia. (Same with the Valhalla and the Screw Attack) And then there's the whole Plasma Beam segment with Ghor. Not sure how we'd ever get past that one because of the sequence of events that happen before we get access to the other two landing platforms.

Hazard Shield was a lucky break because getting it doesn't add a new objective, and neither does the Nova Beam. They just want us to "get past the acid rain" and "disable the pirate defenses", both things that are not tied to either item, but require both of them to proceed.

woo hoo. Just pulled off a sub 3:00 single segment. 2:56 single segment 33%. Tons of mistakes and an absolutely horrible helios battle so sub 2:50 should be very reachable.

I was attempting to run through the game and collect the final tokens that I still needed and I had never defeated the Metroid Hatchers on Hypermode, so I decided to do an all out collectathon. (And get some screenshots of the 75 and 100 percent endings in the process) Even with all of that, I'm apparently ONE gold token short of having everything, but I can't figure out which one it could be.

Probably one of them, although I'm pretty sure I've covered all of the ones listed in the guide I have. The same guide that's full or errors though, so it may not even list one of them for all I know.

It's not the Training Drone, since I hit 22 in a row at the start of my run.

Edit: I don't remember the guide mentioning a Red Phaazoid in Metroid Creche... and I never went through there again on my Hypermode run either. (Just checked a FAQ for this.) I've only ever been through there twice or three times I think because it's not on the main path.

Guess I'll need to make a side trip to get it the next time I play, because I thought I had them all and saved after beating Phaaze. Evil or Very Mad

Edit 2: Doh... it WAS listed on the wiki, which means it IS in the guide.

I too just finished it for the first time yesterday on Veteran mode with 77%. Took me about 16 and a half hour to finish it.

Well it's obviously far better than Echoes, but it's still lacking something so I'd say it's pretty much on the same level as Metroid Prime, even though it has much better controls and graphics. :|

How'd you end up adding about an extra hour onto your time from your SS run? Testing some things out, or not trying for speed as much as consistency?

I wasn't going for speed, spent a lot of time messing around.

I also finished it today the first time - of course in veteran-mode in 15:21 h and my rate for collecting items was 92 %

Together with Metroid Prime 1 the best game I have ever played-wow...thx Retro Studios!

Now I am looking forward to all the hours spending in speed running this game, but before I'll read everything about speed-tricks and sequence breaking, I will play it once again in hyper-mode and with 100 % of Scans and Items.

Also completed my first run today. Normal mode, 16:02h, 99% :|

In hindsight, it might've been better to start on Vet mode, as apart from instakill things and those close to it (ie overloads and acid rain) I didn't manage to get myself killed. Only the end boss on Bryyo gave me trouble, but that was mostly due to still struggling with the controls at that time. Also, I was expecting difficulty to be like MP2 where normal was well, not particulary easy and hard was pretty damn hard when fighting some bosses.

But I suppose I'll try out Hypermode next extra_smug
