VETERAN: 14:23 with 78% items collected!
I throughly enjoyed the experience, and the endgame was interesting to say the least. My earlier opinion of the game still holds true to the end: I still think that Prime captures the magic of the Metroid series the best, but this game was still a blast to play. Definitely my second favorite of the 4 3D Metroid games, no doubt there.
And with more than 75% I unlocked the extended ending!
I briefly mentioned this on the Bypassing Items page of the wiki, but I think it could be very important for speedruns:
And as an added bonus, even though I didn't have the Screenshot feature unlocked, when I arrived back on my Wii Menu I received a new message: The game automatically saved out my Mission Complete screen, which keeps track of time and completion percentage! (Not the difficulty, unfortunately) VERY nice addition to the game!
Edit: Forgot to say this: It's probably a good idea to do what I did and create a copy of your save file before heading off towards the last segment of the game. The game will let you know when this is going to happen, because it says you can't turn back once you head off towards the final area.

If I'm right as to what part is the extended scene, you see Samus back in her Varia suit on one of the landing platforms of Elysia. She takes off her helmet and sits down, looking out towards the sun and remembering the other hunters. It shows segments of all three of them, including when you first meet them and then when you defeat them. It goes back to Samus, getting a closeup of her head before the camera pans away and above Samus.

I only managed to collect eight of the nine energy cells and was able to complete the game. (Found the last one but couldn't get to it.) If I counted correctly, I think it may be possible to only need FIVE of the NINE cells in order to access the Pirate Codes needed to get to Phazze:
