since there's virtually no way to get the jump after the instant unmorphs now, both roll jump and BSJs are dead. samus points directly down when you get an instant unmorph now for some reason and that stops the jump. although it would be good if a pro at BSJs and roll jumps tried them also to be 100% sure they aren't possible anymore. if that jump was still possible, the early SA trick would work since the roll jump can make it without holding R (i tested it on GC to be sure)
the only big SB so far is skipping dark suit and there's other minor SBs like skipping part of the puzzle to open the portal that leads to the dark version of grand abyss.
btw, congrats on getting past grand abyss without grapple.
hm i finally got around beating mp2wii in hard mode.
4:55 hard 100%
i spent 15 minutes against the final bosses. i think they made the emperor's first phase harder. he can take a lot more super missiles now. also, the second phase's tentacles were powered up and even in the lowest difficulty they're stronger than the tentacles in the GC version in normal (i hadn't mentioned that earlier). not being able to use the SA trick made me remember how hard the emperor's 3rd phase really is. i was about to die because i was careless but i turned around things and won slowly but surely. i messed up the 2nd sonic boom blast against ds3. the timing is very tricky.
for now i don't think i'll play the wii version until the us version comes out. i want to try a new test run but would prefer the local version this time. also, i want to go back to the gc version and sub 2 hours. i have practiced the early PB SW a bit and can get it relatively fast so i'll use that to push my time under 2 hours for sure. i might skip echo visor too since i've done it before but i haven't practiced that one since a few years ago. my BSJs have improved since i can get them more consistently despite not having played this game for a long time.
well, i finally got around it and decided to improve my any% time. i used everything i knew and could pull off in this run and also learned a few new tricks (the morph to get into the bomb slot in the portal before grand abyss to get SA first in the fortress is one example) and used SWs to get the early PB and to skip the echo visor (those were some of the most retried segments). i retried several segments until my gameplay looked okay and no obstacles were in my way or slowed me down and used easy saves on my way to optimize a bit more. the final time was......
1:59 normal 36%
finally got the sub. i improved 10 minutes over my previous run. this was my ultimate goal in the game and at last i made it. i think i won't try to improve this unless i feel very eager to do so. if i play the GC version again, it will be for 100% or 200% but for now i'm done with the any% category. some things to note is that i had trouble in a few areas because of things i didn't calculate properly. for example, i didn't have enough missiles to activate the morph cannon in the room before the sanctuary temple so i had to get the expansion there and quadraxis was several times harder than usual and not necessarily because i was without the echo visor. he was acting very aggressive in all his phases and gave erratic refills. i died a few times because i couldn't even reach a safe zone. second phase was a pain with those antennas and the enemy he puts in the battlefield. i think all of this made the echo skip save 1 or 2 minutes at most. at least it was enough for the sub. i'm thinking that probably i could get 1:58 since my save is at a very low 1:54 because the previous one was 1:51 and after that i only picked 1 key and went to the sky temple. at the least it would require an almost perfect emperor fight and using SA in DS3. well, for now i'm quite happy with the time. it was a long time coming and i finally got it. the only other similar sub i could make is sub 1 hour in fusion since my best time is 1:02. that's going to take a lot more practice since i made that time years ago.
i tried hard mode and got 100% items but since i did a really sloppy run, i got this:
3:17 hard 100%
just a 1 minute improvement over my time from almost 2 years ago. agon last didn't really help since i ended up traveling more (or my route blew) and i let many mistakes pass. i think if i put the effort i put in my 1:59 i could sub 3 hours but first i'll have to memorize good routes for several items and do better speed tricks in other areas.
congrats. enduring hard low% must be a pain. good to see you made it.
edit:
i think i'm a really lucky bastard at times. i decided to retry the final segment of the 1:54 save i had just for kicks because i like beating the last bosses and i got fights so incredible that my new final time is now:
1:57 normal 36%
i saved around 2 minutes. i couldn't believe how good the fights were without a single retry. i literally just turned on the GC, pressed start, started playing and after a bit i was watching the credits. the emperor's 3rd phase went down really fast and i used SA against DS3 sucessfully, although it didn't do as much damage as in the vids around here but i was so close to beating silent echo's best escape time that i bet that if i had got a more damaging SA, i would have the best time by now (good thing i didn't get it because i wasn't recording and it would have been 10x worse to do a WR without recording it). my remaining time was like 6:2x:xx. i'd say these fights were a little bit faster than the fights in the current any% speed run. i took a pic of it:
My 100% run was made in 2:40. Sorry for my mistake. UchihaSasuke, were you talking about my 23% run or my 100% one ? For the latter, just remember that ennemies can be scan while dying. Using that, you can scan most of the bosses while the game is playing the death animation.
hmm, makes sense. i used to scan the boost guardian that way in the GC version since you can't waste even 1 second in the regular fight. it's just that scanning takes a lot of time on some bosses (quadraxis has 5 scans) so i didn't think the time matched up but i forgot that the only recorded speedrun at SDA is way too old and outdated. you should do a 100% items run and record it.
