I was checking neoseeker.com, and I found out someone did a run of 1:17. The main thing is, what did he do to get such time (are there new sb-s found?) or is it a bunch of yada yada?  :|

Here's the link:

http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/index.php?fn=view_thread&t=789303&p=1

In my opinion it's still impossible.

Well, instead of saying "explain please", you should be more specific and say something like "did you use any sequence breaks." What you said almost sounded like an insult to me, although I'm sure you didn't mean it.

And since I don't really do any speed running, I don't know what would seem impossible, so I can't really judge that.

(You can shoot me for the necropost if you want, this is a sticky)

There's all kinds of short videos out there on the net, has anyone tried to record an entire run by now? Because I'd like to get an idea of what the WR (any% or 100% I dont care) is but as the end of this thread shows, unless you see a video of the whole run, the records screen could easily be fudged.

Seriously, I really don't know how to capture videos with my Windows Movie Maker.  I plug the camera via USB but it says that it needs a CD.  Ive used the CD but if i do, the videos will be a gig for a clip thats 10 minutes.  Thats not good for my computer.  Anyways, I don't think I'll actually do any DS recording if I get it to work soon.

that's normal for uncompressed video. you have to compress it to get it down to the size you're accustomed to seeing around here.

1:26:16  aiwebs_016

It took me like 3 tries using Mr Potter's speed run to finally beat 1:27, but I finally did it. I might be new here, but I've been playing MPH since the day it came out.  8-) Anyways, I doubt many people really care about single player anymore, but yeah... I did this run a couple of weeks ago, and just decided to join this site today.

Is anybody still working on a MPH speed run?

Speed runs are pretty much dead here for this game, but that's pretty cool that you beat the record. I wish I could speed run but I suck at it.

That's a pretty big jump from 1:26 to 1:22.  Care to share what you have done?  Anything new?

All that was different between the two runs was trying to get each segment perfect, as in restarting if I made a single mistake, and faster MB boosting. Although I did make about 35 seconds of mistakes total in the run, I still improved by almost 4 minutes.

I'm sorry I doubted you before about 1:24. When I did my 1:26 I didn't think I made that many mistakes, but I was apparently wrong. I can now say that anything below 1:22 would be a perfect speed run of this game.

In addition to restarting a lot and faster MB boosting, I took time before each segment to get an idea of each enemy's AI so I know where to shoot them and where they're headed. In Data Shrine 02 of the second visit to Celestial Archives, I used homing missiles on those two Volt-Guardians. I took them out in like 10 seconds.  grin new

Hey I just started running this game and i got 2:45, it seems pretty crap compared to you guys runs.
How did you do it?
What route did you take?
Are there any worthwhile sequence breaks?

Gorea Time: 7:50
Deaths: 0
Hunters/Guardians killed: 58

Only my second playthrough, and now I'll probably never play adventure mode again.

Okay, so I died a couple times but I reset. Instant death pits in Metroid is bullcrap. I never did die in the piston tunnel though.

I probably died more in this than any other metroid except prime 2 on Hard. My first playthough, that goddanged piston tunnel killed me like half a dozen times.

I just thought I'd let everyone here know that I re-did my previous any% run and did a new 100% run a few weeks ago, and ended up with 1:16:33 and 1:22:57 respectively. Here are the links to the final segments I uploaded to YouTube:

Any% 1:16:33
100% 1:22:57

Both runs are currently in the verification process on SDA and I believe each can be improved by quite a bit if less hunters and guardians were encountered in various escape missions. I'm not sure if anybody is even somewhat interested in this game anymore, but I thought I'd let m2k2 know about this. The times for the any% run are getting awfully low, and just one or two new sequence breaks or OOB's that help would probably be able to bring it down to ~1:03 like Metroid Prime.

PS: The 100% run didn't require scans because MPH is the only game in the Prime series that actually counts logbook as part of game completion, so 25% is the 100% percentage without scans. Who would have thought that 3/4 of the game was scanning? :P

Well, M2K2's MPH section of the main site was completed a few months ago, and there are at least two or three new tricks on there, including the Compression Chamber trick that you have asked me about in the past.  Actually, I am still speedrunning this game as well, so this game isn't that dead to runners yet.  From what I have seen and done myself, however, sub-hour seems very likely to happen eventually, since Hunters is a shorter game.  I actually would have recorded my runs by now if I could find a decent way to, how did you record your runs so perfectly without movement?

Out of curiosity, what times have you been getting? You're already thinking sub-1:00 is possible when there has yet to be any major skips aside from the ones already utilized in the "current" route? o_O Also, that Compression Chamber trick doesn't save any real time, since you have to jump-scan in VDO2 (Segment 8 iirc) when there are Judicator Psychobits constantly attacking you and finding the scan is difficult as-is.

As for recording, I've gone over how I record several times in the topic on SDA. It's a little complicated and takes some getting used to, but it works really well (unless you use Dual Mode).

Well, looks like sub 1:20 is doable...  though it's done on an emulator (and most likely TAS'd)

Skip to the end.  He can definitely do better though.  I didn't watch the whole walkthrough but I did see one part where he waited instead of charging through a fence that will only do little damage to him.

EDIT: Oh wow, didn't read your previous post there DSG, looks like sub 1:20 has been done a long time ago.  So sub 1:00 is the new mark or something?  I want to do a MPH TAS but really, I just don't have time for it.
