coral to complement blue
That's where an extra shoulder button would come in handy.

Also, you can just hold R to arm missiles and Power Bombs and release to disarm.  That's pretty useful if you don't think fast enough to press Select X amount of times under pressure to get the right tool for the job.

That worked in the handheld titles because they reduced the number of alternate weapons that you had in the game down to 2/3, so just had to press R to activate them. SM had 5 alternate weapons, and thus needed a different way of switching them. And on a side note, it's a good idea to make Y be your weapon select button and bind Select as your cancel button. That makes cycling through weapons a bit easier.

I wouldn't mind the adoption of GBA like controls like using L for diagonal shooting and R for arming missiles.  Run button is a must as well as customization.

the problem is that there's no good way to customize it so that you have easy access to all the controls.

without the run button they'd be great. the problem is the run button ...

This is exactly what I would have said.

Da hell wid you :)
If the game had automatic running like the GBA games it would frankly ruin the game for me. And not because of any tricks that I do because I speed run the game. But because as 072 pointed out earlier: it feels like something is missing and as if the game is doing something for me, Which I don't like. Of course the GBA has less buttons so they needed that control scheme and it works for the most part.

Wall jumping in fusion was just shit. I'm glad they changed it in zero mission to resemble super with easy one wall wall jumping, well zero was desgined to be sequence broke too.

For the supers controls I love the setup of just changing select to the L button and have everything else as default. Another thing is try using the d pad angle buttons to to look diagonally instead of relying on the shoulder buttons. You get used to it. If of course you need to aim standing still, then use the R button of course. As for standing looking diagonally down, well to be honest it's hardly ever needed in super.

yeah they could never make a metroid game as good as super ...

Well they never did anyway.

I don't really like the controls to either Fuion or ZM, but they where probably the best you could do with only two face buttons. Super Metroid could have better controls with a newer controller, but they are fine they way they are. I would not want to automate the run button, and I would absolutely not want to use the shoulder buttons like you do in the GBA games.

Anyway, I'd much rather have a proper new 2D Metroid for the 3DS than a Super Metroid remake, not that it couldn't be good or anything but new is generally better unless the old is close to unplayable (like Metroid 1). Won't happen though, we'll get Hunters 2 instead for sure.

And NSMB style 2D <<< sprite based 2D, so I'd much rather see them stick to that as well if they ever did a new 2D metroid.

My name is 4N6/Forensics.
Why the hell would they automate the Run Button?

There is absolutely no need to do that because the Nintendo DS/DSL/DSI/3DS all have 6 buttons 8 if you include start and select. Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission were for the GBA which had only 4 buttons 6 if you include start and select. The 3DS has the same amount of buttons as the SNES Controller there would be no need to automate the Run Button.

BTW I would love to see them remake this game for the 3DS or even in HD honestly. It would be even better if they just made a different game using the same engine.

The way the run was added to the GBA games itself (speed boost) ,it didn't kick in until 4 or 5 seconds after holding direction. Of course there's no need to automate run due to more buttons but it wouldn't bloody surprise me if they included automatic running in a super remake just because (I think) the common consensus is GBA controls were the best. It would work on a basic playthrough experience but it would ruin the experiance for other players who like to take things further like super short charge. So in fact it may as well just be another game as far as I'm concerned if they did do that.

As for the screen shot: If they kept that viewpoint all the time, the camera further back and those graphics then that would actually be awesome. As long as the game mechanics stay exactly the same.

Super Secret Area - Dead Ahead!
It would be nice if it were remade, but using the GBA mechanics would kill speedrunning, due to the way the spark charging is abused in runs.
