In my opinion characters requiring full dialogue are those in story-driven games. Mario, Samus, Link - none of them require it, as they're more about getting into the action. That's probably why so many RPGs are now voiced - because they want you to bond with the characters and feel their struggle.
I don't think a sort of 'chronicles of metroid' thing would be completely out of the question- not necessarily playing through a reworked series but perhaps acknowledging several major events in those sexy 'flashback' scenes, i.e. mother brain fight from SM, scenes from Samus' youth. (evidence for this- before the title appears halfway through the trailer, there is a little montage where we see what looks like samus as a child) Given this setup, I think Samus talking could even be appropriate, maybe necessary if the game covers her upbringing and man-drama.
Psyched for this game though- it certainly has the potential to go very wrong. However, ridley, MB and possible zeta metroids, and an opportunity to capitalise on Samus' mystery seems pretty exciting to me. Oh yeah- and from the fact that speed boost and ice beam are shown, it seems likely that exploration and upgrades will still play a large role in the gameplay. Which is good.
I just hope they change the look of the cannon from first person...otherwise that will almost certainly ruin it for me. Fisher Price arm cannons are not the way forward.
